Hehe. My favorite part in The Little Prince is actually the desert itself. I love how St. Exupery captures the absolute loneliness, danger and beauty of the desert; how could a thing of beauty be the hand of death at the same time? Every time I read it, I could hear St. Exupery's voice reverberating through the open, empty desert, almost as if it's longing to catch something. Masyadong sentimental ba?

I guess I'm just attracted to the desert. I loved the movie "The English Patient" because of that. I wish I could read 'Wind, Star and Suns" din, but someone beat me at betting for a copy at ebay. Ehehehe

Jasmin (princ3ssjasmin) | 102 comments Hello everyone. I'm Jasmin and obviously this is my 1st post.

Even when I was young, I loved reading books for teens, but I was too lazy to read really serious stuff, not to mention, books weren't really accessible to me. Well, if its a comfort, I loved buying books, but, they just remain on my shelf, unread, except for the 1st 20 pages at most. Cause most of the things I bought were Odyssey by Homer, Canterbury Tales and other classics which at the age of 14 couldn't really catch my interest, but, i loved the plot nonetheless. So, I could say, I'm a late bloomer when it comes to reading books. But once I got the hang of it, I just couldn't seem to stop.

I'm actually a medical technologist, but anyway, the books I enjoy are usually romance (explains why I'll end a spinster in the future and why I'm a hopeless romantic). I also liked Dan Brown's books.

Anyway, I stumbled on this website, became a member, and never closed the window on my Google chrome ever since. This site definitely opened up the entire book world for me, widening my horizons, adding up the pile of to read books to more than a hundred. Hope I could read them all! :)

message 912: by Anne (last edited May 10, 2010 06:57AM) (new)

Anne (ecyore) | 3 comments Hi everyone~ I'm Anne <3

I'm one of those teens who enjoy reading fantasy/supernatural YA. Reading, for me, is like breathing air. I love, love, love reading books. It's like, my whole life! I eat breakfast and lunch and dinner with them! I sing songs with them. And I read stories to them during bedtime! I've been reading books since I was 6 years old... oh, wait... I think I was 5.. or 4? Oh! I remember! 3! I've been reading books since 3.... months ago! Yeah, I started really reading books February of this year and since then, I've chowed down 28 of goodread's YA books.

I've been an avid fan of manga since 3 years ago and an anime fan since 7 years ago. My favorite character of all time is Killua and though I'm already 18 and he hasn't aged one bit, I'm still in love with him and is still hoping he'd marry me one day. Osaka is cool too... she's my hero <3 I've always wanted to be like her ever since I met her <3 She's teh badass! http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj... << isn't she awesomness?

I'm a bit weird and slightly bipolar - my online friends even call me a yandere. I also love gore movies and Transformers! And marshmallows, too! Did I also mention that I'm very random?

Anyway, I'm a 3rd year Pharmacy student who reads YA books during classes. Who says that she likes reading her uni books when she has never read any of them. Who prefers reading YA than studying. And who doesn't believe in final exams. And oh, I'm a first time voter. XD

message 913: by Eric (new)

Eric (manilatop10) | 2 comments How old do you have to be to become a 'spinster'? ;) ... one of the things that solidified my approach to reading was giving away or donating almost every book that was on the various bookshelves etc. If you know that you don't intend to keep a book, perhaps you retain a few key points for a longer period of time :)

Jasmin (princ3ssjasmin) | 102 comments @eric, maybe 40 to be a spinster, and i imagine myself one, since I'm having an overdose of romance and I envision my future guy, to be a little bit of the leading men in the books i read. haha. It's a nice thought giving them away, but I feel so attached to them. Its hard giving them away.

@jzhun, thank you! :)

message 916: by Ranee (new)

Ranee | 1902 comments hi anne! i loved animes and mangas too. Yup, I was hooked with hunter x hunter too, but was saddened when the author sort of did not continue the series, there was so much more stories that was not explored. I like laughing at gore movies, specially if they fail to scare me, I am more scared of what my mind thinks when I read horror novels.

message 917: by Aaron Vincent (new)

Aaron Vincent (aaronvincent) | 2053 comments Hey Ranee, Hunter X Hunter is my 2nd favorite anime(next to Aya Shino Ceres). The anime series is not continued but you can read the rest of the series in OneManga.com. It is still an ongoing manga series.

message 918: by Ranee (new)

Ranee | 1902 comments heard of that, but never really started watching it, it sort of gave me the impression that it is a love story rather than an action one. I love getbackers and fullmetal alchemist, deathnote and bleach (of course). I like cute animes too, I like alice academy, swoon over cardcapter sakura and the chronicle of the wings.
Yup, onemanga. I follow bleach there.

message 919: by Aaron Vincent (new)

Aaron Vincent (aaronvincent) | 2053 comments Aya Shino Ceres' romantic angle compared to Fushigii Yuugi is more acceptable. Deathnote, for me, is on a league of its own. And yeah, I like Alice Academy too. I consider it as one of my guilty pleasures.

message 920: by Ranee (new)

Ranee | 1902 comments Fushigii Yuugi, now that is a romantic story trying to mask as a fantasy action. i got bored in the end. I agree, deathnote is on a league of its own. the deception is amazing, the power and the imaginative mind can work wonders.
Just imagine, if you get to have the notebook, all nuisance candidates will now be dead. GMA could have died already. I just need to think of an elaborate way of killing her, a heart attack would be too easy for her. (wishful thinking, nuninuninu)

Hi, I'm probably the very last person to comment here.

Usually, I collect ALL the books from these authors, throwing in some random stuff occasionally.

I apologize in advance because I disdain reading old stuff because they're too flowery. The nearest thing I got to Shakespeare was a website called "nosweatshakespeare.com" and I have a big problem with Renaissance literature. I can't be a charlatan either because that would be stupid.

I want to read Boris Vian (author of "L'ecume de jours"-Froth on the Daydream and "L'arrache coeur"- Heartsnatcher), but the bookstores here in the Philippines don't have him. :C

C'est tout. ;D

I also like Gaarder (Sophie's World), Leo Tolstoy (this is old stuff!), Vonnegut (Slaughterhouse Five) and Greene (The Power and the Glory). Astig authors!

Do you frequent Booksale? I cannot imagine any old books not showing up in that bookstore.

message 936: by Christine (new)

Christine (diwataluna) | 99 comments Heya all,

My name is Christine but I go by the nickname Diwa. Please, please, please address me as Diwa!

I'm XX years old and am a very proud Ilocana from La Union. I live in Diliman, Quezon City, where book nooks abound.

The reason I became an avid reader is because of Nancy Drew. :) That's what I read in grade school, along with Babysitters Club and Sweet Valley high from the shelves of my bestfriend.

In high school, I got into Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles and I pretty much got hooked. Which was a good thing because I am also an insomniac!

Book-buying takes about 25% of my monthly budget because I buy more books than food! I am a compulsive book-buyer and I enjoy exploring the shelves of NBS, Booksale, Fully Booked and most especially, those of indie bookshops all over Cubao and UP Diliman.

I'm not a genre reader 'coz I can enjoy all sorts of books-- as I enjoy all sorts of music and food. My collection is a smorgasbord of classics, modern, fiction, poetry, non-fiction, Pinoy Lit, World Lit, YA, A, children's lit, and so on. I love my books so much I take them with me everytime I have to move house instead of leaving them in our house in La Union.

Right now I am very much into Haruki Murakami. :)

btw, Tolstoy isn't necessarily "old" stuff, because he came around the nineteenth century, which was I think the golden age of novels and later on realism. My big problems lie waaaaay back to those Renaissance guys. The art back then was awesome but the novels and the Literature in general for me was... bleh.

Hi Kuya Doniiiii! ;D

Yes, Christine. Read any of his short story compilations first. Ranee has his autobiography and she said that Murakami is first and foremost a short story writer. I've read 3 of his novels (Kafka, Wind-Bird and Sputnik) and they are like novels that can be broken down into short stories.

Len (maidenveil) Hi, guys!

Name is Len. But I usually go by the alias of Maidenveil around forums and blogs. :D I'm from Quezon City and currently a graduate student of Counseling Psychology.

I just resurrected my fondness for reading after graduating from college. I guess all those textbook readings had to come first before anything else. :p Now I'm happy reading a bunch of books and interacting with fellow readers. I also have a book blog if you happen to have one too. :)

I'm into fiction and YA books, mostly supernatural/paranormal romance.

I'm so glad to have have found my way here in the groups.
