[General] Introduce Yourself!
Questian wrote: "HI C.c. welcome to the group!"Thanks. It's too bad I can't attend the meetings in person because I'm too far away!
i hope that you can visit your home country someday, then you can join the F2F(Face 2 Face) discussion.
Thanks, Questian. My image of the Philippines is of this beautiful culture where family and local community are very strong and the people are friendly and generous. But I mostly know the culture mostly through my parents, who probably look back at their childhoods in the Philippines through rose-colored glasses, as we say in the states. Happy reading, everyone!
HEy abby welcome to the group! as for book suggestion, try reading YA, they are good, so it would be a good place to start. And there are alot of YA readers in this group. Have you read Hunger games? try it. although there are a lot of YA boks there. Ask some of our group members they will be happy to help you. I'm on the romance side of reading so...hehehehehe..
anyway, hope you have fun with us!
@PlayButtonPlus:welcome!its nice na theres still teenagers reading.kasi halos lahat parang internet and strolling at the mall na lang lage naririnig ko sa kanila.its good that youre reading Phil.Lit..kasama pa rin bah ang Ibon Adarna at Florante at Laura sa highschool today?
if your reading bob ong,try ABN...and Stainless Longganisa.or nabasa mo na already?
enjoy this group. Kasi they will definitely recommend nice books to u. :-)
Okay, hello newbies. *cracks knuckles* Let's do this. Hi Yssa! I like the name Alyssa -- I'm going to use that in my next story. :)
Hi Meryl! I had that same experience with a book, where I hated most of it, but the ending was sort of redeeming. I think that's still why I try to finish all the books I read. :D
Hi Janika! Talking about books -- we like that, too! Join us in our face to face discussions, or even try out a buddy read, so we can discuss the books we read together. :D
Hi Baizam! The only Shakespeare book I have at home is Twelfth Night, which has been at home since...since...basta, matagal na. :))
Hi Shyshy! I had this time when I was addicted to everything Scottish. Dream ko pa rin makapunta dun, of course. Plus I think their accents are adorable. :)
Hi Mabelle! I used to read a lot of Nancy Drew, too. But I'm more of a Sweet Valley kid, hehe. I started reading them in Grade 3, din. :)
Hi Gabbie! Zombies! *apir* They're my favorite. Have you read Mira Grant's Newsflesh series (Feed, Deadline, Blackout)? Awesome awesome zombie books.
Hi Jr! We've been friends in GR for a while, I think. Glad you decided to say hi here. Welcome1
Hi Jan! Aw, I tried starting a book club before, too, but my friends don't like reading too much. Then I found TFG. I hope you can join us sa discussions? Oh, and I have some romance recommendations, haha. :D Depends on how cheesy or fluffy you want them to be. ;)
Hi Leira! I'm from Rizal, too. :) More people from the East, yay!
Hi Cc! Welcome to the group! I'm glad you have fond memories of the Philippines because sometimes living here makes us forget about the good things here (because you know, traffic and floods and general city chaos gets to us). :)
Hi Abby! So why PlayButtonPlus? Curious lang. I remember when we had to put up a stage production of Ibong Adarna, Noli and El Fili (movie yung Florante at Laura namin hehe). Fond memories with those books ebcaue of that! Hm, Sarah Dessen books are a good place to start if you want to read more YA that your mom will approve. :D Or Deb Caletti's Honey, Baby, Sweetheart. :) As for local fiction, I'm going to push my Interim Goddess of Love by Mina V. Esguerra. :D It's available in local bookstores, and it's so much fun to read. :D
Okay, I think I've greeted everyone. Hihi. Happy Friday, guys! :)
Hey, Tina!I'd love to hear your recommendations for romance novels. I really really want to be able to say that I have read at least a little bit from each genre.
The thing is I'm afraid I'll find a book boring when all it ever talks about is the love story between two people. It's like I want something more from a book. It probably depends on the writing.
I'm planning to start Unbearable Lightness of Being. It came highly recommended by a friend who knows I'm not into romance. Hopefully that, and some of your recommendations will help me on my way to becoming a well-rounded reader.
Cheers!
Hello po.I'm Alex Dianne. You can call me Alex. Or Dianne. Honestly, I'm that indecisive I don't even know what nickname I prefer. 15. Incoming college student. Not much to say about myself. =)
I don't exactly have a favorite genre. But mostly, I read YAs, dystopian, paranormal, contemporary and realistic fictions, uhm yeah well anything fiction...
And..it's not that I don't like classics but I think I don't have enough prowess to handle such vocabulary. Haha.
I'm hoping to meet new friends. :)
hi alex welcome to the group!! we have YA readers here. you can ask them for good books, romance reader kc aq e. but hnd ko pa read ang 50 shades..hahaha...
15 ka lang Alex and incoming college student? Ang bata mo. Or yun na ang trend? Ewan. Pero, wag ka munang magbabasa ng 50 shades. Try any color, all the colors even, get to know a lot of Christian's except this Mr. Grey! Hehe
Ranee wrote: "15 ka lang Alex and incoming college student? Ang bata mo. Or yun na ang trend? Ewan. Pero, wag ka munang magbabasa ng 50 shades. Hi everyone, I'm Lovella but you can call me Lovs. :) 17 and an incoming 2nd yr college student.I mostly read YAs. But I like classics too from the works of Jane Austen and Emily Bronte. I'm a huge fan of Vampire Academy and The Mortal Instruments. I'm a sucker for vampire and demonology. ;)
I hope to meet new friends and good recommendations! :D
Hello everyone! I'm Asser, 21. I'm from Nueva Ecija and I've been a member of GR since 2011 and I feel like a loser right now kasi now ko lang nakita tong group na to. Haha! I'm so happy napadpad ako dito. :)I love reading obviously. I read anything even the boring ones as long as it's interesting. I'm a huge fan of Cassandra Clare, Karen Marie Moning and Melina Marchetta. I never read Harry Potter series (I don't know why I shared that and don't ask me why i never read it 'cause I also don't know why). I've read so many American books as well but I've still got my fair share of Filipino books such as Bob Ongs, Noli Me Tangere (my favorite) and El Fili. I even read one PHR book though I forgot the title.
Anyways, I don't have any friends here where I live who share my love for reading so I'm looking forward to meet a Filipino co-bookworm. :D And I'd love to hear any good book recommendation from you guys. Nice to meet you all. :)
Fifty Shades of Grey is porn?? I swear I saw that in our bookshelf. Let me see if I have found a new book to read, heheh..Anyway, welcome to the new members!
^ Erotica, yes. Also, "Mommy Porn", although I haven't read it to know if it's true (and never will).
Questian wrote: "my mas magagandng erotica pa keso dun.."LIGHTNING!
Lol, okay, sorry, hadn't been long since I finished the game :P
And I still don''t get why some of my friends like 50 shades...they keep saying they love the romance story...WHAT ROMANCE STORY?! It's all sex! Well, at least mostly it's about sex.>.>
@shadow:my love stroy naman, kso since erotica xa at BSDM p,mdyo shallow lng..i did not play FF13. FF7 ang laro ko. but i jst love Claire's peronality kaya ayan...@asser:hubby ko taga N.E. San Jose xa.
@bea: ang trip ko lately n erotica writer c lora leigh..hahaha..hnd aq sure kung genre b nya yun...but i like her writing style.
It's not that good. I tried reading Fifty Shades, but I couldn't couldn't bring myself to finish it. I don't like sex in literature, I say read William H. Gass' On Being Blue. There's a whole chapter dedicated as to why sex stuff in literature isn't advisable. But there there are certain exceptions. Great read, if you're ever interested. And Hullo, everyone!
Hi guys! I don't know about Fifty Shades (I've stayed away from it like the plague) but if you're looking for erotica, are any of you familiar with Anais Nin? :DOh, and hi to all the newbies! :)
If you read Fifty Shades you're practically reading porn. I didn't finish it. It's annoying and brutal because of the Dominant Submissive thing.
Hi Ayca! :) Welcome to TFG.Jan: I haven't read Unbearable Lightness of Being, but maybe I will soon. We'll be reading Love in the Time of Cholera sa July -- I hear it's romantic, too. :D Maybe you'd like to join the discussion then?
Hi Alex/Dianne! I started reading classics when I graduated na. Well, I read A Little Princess when I was younger kasi I love the cartoons, pero I didn't think it was a classic then. One day you'll just find yourself reading classics, and don't worry if it's slow going. :) I'm still learning to like them. :)
Hi Lovs! What's your favorite Austen? I fell in love with Persuasion when I first read it, and I think I need to reread it. :) Welcome to the group!
Hi Asser! Melina Marchetta! ♥ ♥ ♥ We've got a little fans club for her here (hello, Aaron, Maria!). Jellicoe Road is one of my most favorite books. Welcome to the group. :)

Guys guys, re: the Fifty Shades discussion...I have no plans of reading it, but maybe we can move the talk in the Books Books Books folder? :D Wala lang, OC. haha. (view spoiler)
Heyho guys! Im a group newbie, but I can say I read A Lot of books, mostly YA and chicklit, 21, just got out of college, and currently spending my spare time reading (i hhave a lot of spare time!).@robert totally agree with you. Hello! Antagal ko nang sinusubaybayan ang mga threads dito, but only now did I find the urge to introduce myself because, well, Melina Marchetta was mentioned ^ TeeheeAnyway, hi to you all! Looking forward to discussing books with everyone!
Hi Chrissie! Another Melina Marchetta fan, yay! :D Pwede na lumaki ang fans club ulit. haha! What's your favorite Marchetta book? And welcome to the group. :)
Hello everyone!I'm so glad to be part of this group. Moreover, it's a Filipino group! :D Looking forward to meet new friends who share the same passion for reading as I do.
@Tina: Thank you for the warm welcome, ramdam ko ang init HihiI've only read two! Actually, I just started reading her a month ago, accidentally pa since I was losing hope in the genre. Saving Francesca was amazing, so isinunod ko yung Piper's Son. No thanks for ruining my book budget, Marchetta Hahahaha!

I'm also a writer, my novel, The Earth Girl and Queen Eliza, has some themes of immigration and cultural confusion, although it is a science fiction / space opera / romance type story.
The Namesake, by Jhumpa Lahir, is a terrific novel about a family's immigrant experience in America. I also like Digging to America, by Anne Tyler, my favorite author.
