i believe i am one of you who love to read books.

i started loving books when i was in grade 3, with nancy drew...

now, i read everything and anything under the sun as long as it catches and holds my attention...

Hi Mabelle,

I haven't read that one yet. I am more into historical books right now. I used to love reading historical romances, but got tired of the plot. I still read some every now and then though.

Ken Follet is great, you just need to have patience as his stories are long. I've read "the Third Twin" and I did not enjoy it as much as I enjoyed "Pillars of the Earth".

I also liked "Fall of Giants" the story is set during the first world war. I loved how he developed the characters. I'll try reading "Hornet's Flight" next...

Thanks for the recommendation!

message 7710: by Maia (new)

Maia | 8 comments Ycel: I've read Ken Follett's Third Twin and I did not like it as much as I liked his historical fiction. I'll try Hornet's Flight and Ender's Game. I am currently reading YA books, just to pass the time while waiting for the last installment of the Millenium Series.
Tin: I'll try Ender's game, but I'll start it on my rest day as I also lose sleep over books and I can't afford to miss work kc di n nman ako naka2log! Hehehehe.
Jalyn: Twilight is fine, if you just want to pass the time, it is very readable, but the premise, like Grey is ridicolous! If asked to choose, I'd rather read Twilight than Grey, I was not even able to finish the second Grey book. And I had to plod through the first book.

HI, Janika

I know how you feel. I also joined the group since my friends do not read and most of the time, I get frustrated as nobody shares my frustration with the ending of the books I've just read.

Like the ending for "Divergent", I almost threw my Kindle when I read the last lines!!!

I love my Kindle but I miss reading "real" books. The upside is, I can download multiple books at a time for free!

message 7720: by Ranee (new)

Ranee | 1902 comments Di ako expert mabelle, pero parang 8 nga minus the side stories. Pero kasi nahati sa Ender's saga and the Shadow series, to ay kung tama ang tanda ko sa explanation ni rollie.

message 7721: by Mabelle (new)

message 7722: by Gabbie (new)

Gabbie (gabxpin) | 1 comments Hey guys, I'm Gabbie :)
I'm currently in college and I definitely have a love for books. I've always loved reading but its only been recently that I actually started collecting books. Puro e-books and fanfics lang kasi ako before lol. Anyway, I'm slowly but surely building my 'library'. I especially have a love (more like addiction lol) for buying used books for super low prices. I'm often hunting 'em down online or going through shelves at Book Sale or these little shops hidden around Cubao x. I've yet to try at Recto (I hear there's a lot of people selling used books there) and I really really wanna go soon. Haha. Anyway, I joined this group because other than collecting books, I also love to talk about them! I can go on and on and on about a particular book if I like it haha :)
Oh yeah, I usually read ya but not all the time. I like paranormal, fantasy and zombie books best but I like other genres too like contemporary, romance etc. :)

Maia | 8 comments Mabelle wrote: "@Maia: since you mentioned ken follet, i found out that i have his 3 ebooks. pillars of the earth, fall of giants and winter of the world. which one will you recommend for me to read first?"

Hi, Mabelle!

I first read "pillars of the earth" it has a sequel, but you don't have to read it as the sequel is set 100 years after the original story.
Plus "Pillars of the Earth" is so much better that the sequel.

As for the other two, they are part of the Millennium Series.
The first one is Fall of Giants then Winter of the World.

It's about how the characters lived and help shape world war I and world war II.

I hope you enjoy them!

Angus (angusmiranda) | 4337 comments Hello everyone!

Hi Janika, you found the right place! And we'd love to see you in the discussions.

Hi Shyshy, don't be shy ha?

Have you seen the Book Sale thread?

Hi Jash, what do you like to write about? Are you currently attempting to write a book?

message 7733: by D (new)

D hey everyone! my name is david and i'm new to the group. I am also a newly published author! what's my book about? It's the story of a guy who gets on the MRT at North Ave. He is on the way to Ayala to meet the love of his life and during the trip, he begins to reminisce. From his recollections, you begin to understand his story, his relationship with the girl he is going to meet, and the reason why he was meeting her that day in Ayala. for those of you who want to know more about it, go to http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00COQT6NU/r.... you can either buy the book or preview it first then buy based on how much you liked the first few chapters. It's also on goodreads --> Memory Rail by David Rosario thanks! :D

I think there will be no problem with the guy. Kahit sino pwede.. Just imagine the girl who will portray steele.. (gosh! di ko ma-imagine talaga.. for adults only ang rating..)

message 7743: by Jr (new)

Jr Bacdayan | 7 comments Hullo, guys. As you can see, my name's JR. Student, but of legal age. Ha! I like classics, mystery, law thrillers, YA, biographies, I'd read anything actually. I've read quite a few books, meaning to read lots more. What's up?

message 7744: by Rincess (new)

Rincess Hey Jr! Yeah, couldn't help greet because of the suite. Looks great on you, bud! XD What's up? Are you studying in college? Oh, and it'd be awesome if you could share your fav books or something. I'm int, ya know =))

message 7745: by Jr (new)

Jr Bacdayan | 7 comments Hahaha! Well, suite's comfy and all. Yup, incoming 3rd year BA Organizational Communication student from UP-Manila. Well, fave book is Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment, Joyce's Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man is close second while Nabokov's Lolita is running third. Thanks bud, and I have no doubt that you're int.

message 7746: by Rincess (new)

Rincess Suite's comfy? Wow, you're the only dude I know who's ever said that! Haha. My bro keeps complaining about the coat. It's too hot here in the Phil to wear it. But hey, it's better than wearing a dress, right? Lol, personally, I don't like wearing anything formal. It's...distracting. Most comfy clothes are boxers and a large t-shirt.

And wow, Crime and Punshiment? I haven't really read the book but now that I think about it, I'd love to get a hold of a copy. I'm starting to get into classic lit. YA is kinda getting typical and stuff. I mean, they all write the same way...well, not all, but most. Ah, YA fans don't kill me? I still love ya guys!

And cool, you sound smart. I mean c'mon UP Manila and Classic Lit? I call honor list!

Jan (janwrites03) | 7 comments Hi, all. I'm Jan. Psyched to finally be part of a book-related group. I tried starting a book club with friends but that failed miserably. Anyway, I've been reading detective stories(yes, Nancy Drew) and fantasy since I was a kid. I have grown into short stories, classics and general fiction. I plan to ease my way into sci-fi but I don't think I can take romance (I guess that depends on how it's written, right?)

Anyway, that's me in a nutshell. Hi hi! ^_^

JR: I love crime and legal thrillers too. Which authors of the genre do you read?

JAN: Yay to Nancy Drew! :) Pre-Goodreads, I was confined to reading only crime novels but have expanded my reading preferences ever since. Malay mo, you will find yourself enjoying romance in the future. ;)

LEIRAH: There are a lot of YA readers in this group too. As for me, I just started reading YA recently. One of my favorite authors is John Green and The Fault in Our Stars is one of my best reads last year :)
