[General] Introduce Yourself!
Nibra wrote: "Maria: And I meant it in the most offensive way possible."Wow. we don't normally bash books in this group, because we have diverse readers in our members, and because we breed respect among ourselves. But since your intention is really to offend, then you are in the wrong place.
Take your offensive words outta here.
Ui jr. Part-time banker! Vampire banker here~ and not exactly geek. But i read book that brings tears to my eyes. Hello~
Maria wrote: "Hi newbies! welcome to The Filipino Group! If you are into YA, mystery/thriller, crime/suspense, or even romance, then add me up. :)Nibra, Sweet Valley High got me into reading, along with Nancy ..."
Hey, me too! Left Out Elizabeth from The Sweet Valley Kids series was the first book I ever read (apart from the usual kids' fairy tales). I eventually ventured into Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys and the Chronicles of Narnia. These series made me fall in love with reading. :)
Chika: I remember that! That's the one where the Wakefield family went skiing with Todd diba? Haha my first SVK was The Best Thanksgiving Ever :)
Maria: By trashy I was referring to 'uppity white trash' theme I had, to my dismay, experienced from SVH. I was 8 then. Or maybe it was just me. I bashed the book? Maybe. But you took offense. Now that'd be your problem. I am a harry potter fan, a big one too, but if anyone makes awful comment (mostly from pretentious popular culture snobs) i won't even give a rat's ass. Why? Because that's their opinion. And frankly, I don't give a damn. However, that comeuppance about me being 'rude' tastes like sand in my mouth. There wasn't anything remotely manipulative about what I said to incite whatever 'stirrings' since I was merely stating what I thought I should say to express how utterly repelled I was by the book. I said it was trashy but I did not imply in anyway that anyone who is into it also share the adjective (not that you implied, just want to make it clear). We are political beings here. Rude or not, it was impersonal. Live a little.
Well, imagine that!We have to thank Nibra then, for giving us the opportunity to reminiscent the good old books we cherish.
Remember, don't nip the butt, if you don't want to be shredded. Exercise equal respect, my lovies.
乂⍲‿⍲乂
ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT SWEET VALLEY? YESSSSS. I love that series <3 I owe my reading habits from that books. And Nibra, if you yourself know that you haven't read that much, how can you judge SV series like that? Have some respect, man.
Louize wrote: "Exercise equal respect, my lovies. "Hear hear. Thanks, Louize.
Okay time for the moderator hat!
Nibra: I think your comment just came across wrong, especially when you said that "you meant it in the most offensive way possible."
Just a gentle reminder -- and this goes out to everyone: watch what you post. :) Remember how online conversations are easy to misinterpret. We are entitled to our own opinions, but remember: mutual respect! :)
*takes off moderator hat*
Now 'respect' has taken double standards. if a man says 'a book sucks' and people say he's being disrespectful, are the accusers right? or are they, too, being disrespectful of the other by saying he lacks respect?
I...honestly think I have said what needs to be said. Oh, but if anyone wants to continue this conversation, please do it via PM. Or you know, anywhere else except the introductions thread.Speaking of introductions, lemme go back to the point of the thread, kasi ngayon ko lang to nabasa:
Jill: I live in Rizal, too. :D *waves* Hello fellow East-sider. Haha.
Wow, I picked a great time to introduce myself! Time to bring back the good vibes!Hi, Maria Ella! Vampire banker? Does that mean you only work at night or in a blood bank? =P yup, tears are always welcome, either from lines that touch the soul or that are just plain funny!
JR wrote: "Wow, I picked a great time to introduce myself! Time to bring back the good vibes!Hi, Maria Ella! Vampire banker? Does that mean you only work at night or in a blood bank? =P yup, tears are alway..."
Ella is fine. And yes, I am a fund accountant and NewYork offshore counterpart of an American Investment bank situated in the heart of Bonifacio Global City~ (parang beauty pageant haha).
Tears from Cosette's suffering - too much feels. #LesMis
Tears from Algernon buried in the backyard.
Flowers for Algernon
Tears from the line "I love you. So much. I just don't like you anymore." One Day
Yeah, those tears. Hahahaha
Ciao na? Hehehe. If anyone feels that a book is trashy, he must cite references. And he must try to understand the failure. These are from John Updike's personal rules on literary criticism. This is not for particular people but it's for everyone. And yeah, they are opinions.
Hello newbies! I'll check this thread in detail soon. Sorry, busy ng very light. :)
JR wrote: "Wow, I picked a great time to introduce myself! Time to bring back the good vibes!"Haha, hi JR. Yep, you did, and yes, good vibes are always welcome. :)
Hi guys! Kamusta! baka lang interesado kayong sumali dito oh..http://listverse.com/2013/01/25/9-fai...
may paparaffle ng book!!!
Listverse.comBecause we all love fairy tales, we are giving away five copies of the Grimm Brothers annotated fairy tales. The copy we are giving away is the 200th anniversary edition. It contains all the fairy tales you should ever need to satisfy your lust for gruesome and creepy tales—uncensored. To enter the competition you simply have to comment on this list. Your comment should be related to this list and should not be an obvious attempt to win—in other words, don’t comment just for the sake of commenting. When tomorrow’s lists are published, the five comments with the highest upvotes will be chosen from this list to win the prize—so you get to pick the winners with your votes! We will notify the winners by email (if registered) or via a reply here. We will also name the winners on the Listverse Facebook Page. There is no limit to the number of comments per person.
Ella, nice to meet you! I haven't read any of the books you mentioned, though I did watch 2 of them. Tears are indeed welcome, judging by the abundant sniffs heard in the theater while watching both movies.Hi, Tina! Yup, and I tip my "newbie" hat to you for doing a fantastic job moderating! =)
Hi, guys! I'm Malou from Quezon City. :)I love reading, ever since my parents read fairy tales to me at bedtime. My favorite tales back then were The Little Mermaid (the sad version) and The Three Little Pigs.
The first book that I read was The Wizard of Oz. I love fantasy books but I'm open to reading other genres as well. I also like reading manga and graphic novels.
I'm looking forward to discussing about books with you, guys. Thanks for creating this group. :)
Hello Malou! Welcome to TFG!I have yet to read Wizard of Oz, haha! Don't we just love parents who read to us? :)
Hi Karen! Welcome to the group! Nice introduction, by the way. Parang Miss Philippines. :D I'm tempted to introduce myself to you that way too, and add my vital statistics. Haha! Of course, I'm just kidding! :))
Happy reading everyone! :)
Thanks for the warm welcome, Linai. Parang Miss Philippines ba, hahaha... :) I'm eternally grateful that my parents read to me as a kid and encouraged this habit.
Happy reading, everyone! :)
Dear Group Members,I am here to introduce myself, thank you for this group. I love the intellect of the Filipinos! My name is Yvonne de la Vega and I live in Los Angeles. I am a poet and have been an avid reader and book enthusiast since I was very young, in grade school. Since then, I have become established as a poet of Los Angeles. I see myself as an American-Filipino contemporary poet and I have a new book out. Feel free to friend me here or on facebook(.com/yvonnedelavega) I'm ashamed to admit I do not speak the beautiful dialects of the Islands.
Nice to be here in this group with you all, thank you. :)
Sincerely,
Yvonne
Hey everyone. I'm Danielle. I'm a proud Filipino who loves to read books. I'm a fan of YA books and Coming-of-Age books. My favorites are The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Hunger Games and Divergent.
Hi, everyone. I'm Pasky. I grew up in the Philippines but now call Maryland (right outside D.C.) home. Nick Joaquin is my all-time favorite Pinoy author. I especially love 'May Day Eve,' with its evocative depiction of old Manila. This is magical, mystical, lyrical writing: "they were young bucks newly arrived from Europe...and they had waltzed and polka-ed and bragged and swaggered and flirted all night and where in no mood to sleep yet--no, caramba, not on this moist tropic eve! not on this mystic May eve! --with the night still young and so seductive that it was madness not to go out, not to go forth---and serenade the neighbors! cried one; and swim in the Pasig! cried another; and gather fireflies! cried a third, whereupon there arose a great clamor for coats and capes, for hats and canes, and they were a couple of street-lamps flickered and a last carriage rattled away upon the cobbles while the blind black houses muttered hush-hush, their tile roofs looming like sinister chessboards against a wile sky murky with clouds, save where an evil young moon prowled about in a corner or where a murderous wind whirled, whistling and whining, smelling now of the sea and now of the summer orchards and wafting unbearable childhood fragrances or ripe guavas to the young men trooping so uproariously down the street..."
Hi fellow readers! My name is Tricia and I'm from Cavite. I love reading and my favorite place is Booksale. So many hidden treasures and for a very very small price!
I have quite a lot of "favorite" books but the ones that are always on my top list are Blindness by Jose Saramago, A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks, Crashing by Cris Wooding.
Looking forward to discussions and cutesy little chats with you guys! :)
Hello newbies! Welcome to the group :) Enjoy your stay here.Danielle: those 3 books are my fave, too. ;)

Hello fellow Filipino readers! I've been a part of this group before but I haven't introduced myself to you guys, hehe. I'm sort of having a hard time figuring out which is which. Well, being a newbie back then was kind of hard xD
Anyway, I am Sharmaine or you can call me Samaine. I'm a 17-year-old book lover who also loves to blog about YA books. Hoping to meet new friends here :)

Hi! Sheena here. 26yo. It feels good to be a part of this group. By the way...I LIKE LOVE and ENJOY reading (obviously that's why i'm here), music, movies, tv series, coffee, badminton, arts, photography, gadgets, beaches,..and the list goes on. about books..i prefer the young adult and chick lit kind...with romance, fantasy, little humor, girl power, and/or paranormal love story in it.
I'm really new to these goodreads groups so I really have no idea what I'm doing but I'll try to stay up to speed with everything here. Thanks for welcoming me to your group!
Hi everyone! I'm pretty new here at goodreads, such a shame, I tried to find friends using my email to no avail. Out of my long list of friends (yabang), none of them are members here yet. I'll spread the word na lang so I can invite them to join. Let's see, I need to introduce myself pala. I'm a sakura lover (hence the name) and mostly anything japanese - except the food, sorry, raw food: ugh. I love music, I used to write some songs (nuong araw), I also play the guitar, keys and drums, looooove to write but been busy lately so I don't really have time to finish anything.
Basically, I'm just here to fill my thoughts with wonderful stories - some that I would never get to experience myself, some that helps me re-live a certain chapter in my life and to meet new friends that share the same passion I have - reading books. :-)
So far Goodreads have recommended a lot of great books to read, here's to finding more! Cheers!
SAMAINE, SHEENA, and SAKURA: Warm welcome, newbies! Check out the threads and feel free to join in on the discussions. Cheers to Filipino readers!:)

Okay it's been a while since I was last here. Sooo hello. *waves* Welcome newbies! Hope to see you around the threads AND our meet-ups! :) Don't be shy. :)
Hi, I've been a GoodReads member since 2009. I have tried "introducing" myself to this thread back then but some guy gave me a hard time about it & basically started harrassing me. Since then I just became a lurker. I concentrated on augmenting my book shelf (8,000+ now) and writing up book reviews. Hopefully, it'll be a better experience for me this time around. I've met up with some of the Filipino Grp members before & look up to "Kuya" KD.
I've been tagged as no. 1 in the Phils for most number of books read, books edited as a Librarian, books added, etc.
More about moi:
I am an:
educator. philosophy grad. idealist. dreamer. fab nerd. bibliophile. intellectual snob. bookworm. comic convert. purple obsessed. book sale enthusiast. bodylotion junkie. book reviewer. junkfood snacker. neil gaiman fan. anne rice admirer. vampire wannabe. harry potter addict. fanfiction downloader. dvd series dependent. cookie monster collector. retail therapy devotee. museum-goer. armchair traveler. spicy food lover. online shopper.
I'm a compulsive book-hoarder and have YET to give up on frequenting book stores and book sales. I guess you can say I'm a wee bit addicted. I've never been successful in making a hole in the unread books that take up most of my room space.
The genres I tend to gravitate to are fantasy, children's, young adult (YA), mythic fiction, fairy tale fantasy, but I've been through a lot of phases from non fiction to detective mystery to horror. (less)

Nibra and Maria: I wouldn't really define SVH as trashy. Maybe just not as deep. Besides, we all have to start somewhere, right? I started with Sweet Valley Kids and Sweet Valley Twins and Friends. And I'm a shameless fan on the Unicorn Club. :D
Of course, Sweet Valley Confidential is an entirely different story. :P But that's just me.
It's normal for our tastes to change. I used to read only exclusively YA books, but now I find that my preferences are expanding and I crave stories about characters who are no longer in a specific age group. I think it's a natural progression for a reader, and it allows us to enjoy more books. So like what they said, don't fret about it too much. :)
