Hello din karen. galing! ako hindi ko pa nababasa lahat ng books ni bob ong, medyo naging busy kasi. Nice to meet you too! ;)

message 6958: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Kam, active means either online or in person. Normally, online kapag wala ka sa Manila. Mayroon ding madalas mag-attend in person pero halos di mo makita rito sa threads.

Mayroon ditong:
1) Monthly book discussion - both online and in person called F2F
2) Outreach project (February) - puwede kang mag-donate ng books
3) Anniversary (April) - poetry reading
4) Christmas Party (December)
at kung anu-ano pang maisipan like palengke meet up, movie meet up, bookhunting meet up, out of town meet up, etc.

Just keep yourself posted by visiting the homepage and clicking those threads.

Bobbie (bobbierebultan) Hello! :) Newbie in this group, but has been active in Goodreads since 2010. My name is Bobbie. Yes, I am a girl. Haha.

Favorite genre: YA and dystopian
Work: Software Developer / Programmer at a telecommunication company.
Favorite authors: JK Rowling, John Green, David Levithan, Gayle Foreman, Stephen King, and a few others. :)

I don't sound very interesting but... yeah, I'm really not. Haha. I'm the quiet-type of person you see in school reading in the corner.

That's it, I guess. :)

I love the books of Rowling, Green and King too!

So welcome to our group. Feel at home. :)

Joy (joyabundo) | 80 comments Hello to all TFG members! My name is Immaculate Joy. 19 years of age. I'm from Catanduanes, Bicol. I've been a member of Goodreads since 2009 but just recently discovered and joined this group through the recommendation of my sister Rhena. I'm so ecstatic when my group request to be a member was finally accepted after a long wait. Having no one to discuss and fangirl about my books is so depressing, but I don't have to worry about it now because this group exist! Yay! :) It's so good to know other fellow Filipinos who share the same passion for books. :)
hmm. I don't have a specific genre preference but i enjoy reading YA & Children books (perhaps the lack of it when i was a kid made it more compelling for me.) Reading Smaller and Smaller Circles by F.H. Batacan made me think to delve more into the local books. I love reading works of Rick Riordan, Paulo Coelho, George R.R. Martin, Neil Gaiman, Jodi Picoult, and more! I also enJOy reading Inspirational, Christian and Self Help books. :) I just started reading Classic books last summer because of the BBC List. Hmm. That's all for now. hehe :D Looking forward to meet new friends here! :)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Algel: I have no idea about your book but have you tried calling the bookstores up? If none, how about the Amazon Depository?

Hi Joy! Younger sister of Rhena? Sorry, this group used to be set in Private. Only a couple of weeks ago, we changed this back to Public since we felt that the storm had ebbed out *chuckle*. Anyways, I love your books! I read Riordan, Coelho, Martin (not the singer hehe), Gaiman and Picoult hehe. See, may paguusapan tayo. But my Batacan has been there untouched for 2 years now. Maybe I should try to read it soon.

Welcome to our group. I am sure Ate Rhena has told you stories about us already so you know we're fun people to be with haha.

message 6976: by Tina (new)

Tina (tinamats) | 2665 comments Hello newbies! *waves* Minsan lang ako dumaan sa Introductions thread, pero pakalat-kalat ako everywhere else. :D Hello hello.

Algel: The other books are available in Book Depository, here are the links:

Blue is for Nightmares
Red is for Remembrance
Silver is for Secrets

Wala silang stock nung boxed set, but since you said you already have White is for Magic, you can order the other books separately. Book Depository ships for free to the Philippines. :)

message 6977: by Bobbie (new)

Bobbie (bobbierebultan) Hi Tina!

And usually, ilang days/weeks bago sya madeliver?

Hi Bobbie! Yes, I order a lot of books there. Mostly pre-orders kasi they have 25% off, so mas nakakamura ako. Brand new books yung binebenta nila. Delivery can take 2-5 weeks, depending on where you are. They deliver it right at your house, so no need to pick the books up from the post-office. :)

message 6979: by Bobbie (last edited Sep 18, 2012 01:16AM) (new)

Bobbie (bobbierebultan) Do they deliver anywhere in the Philippines? Siguro naman hindi masyado matagal kung sa Manila lang naman ung delivery address right? Anyway, thank you! :D And yes, naka 36% off nga ung Harry Potter set na kinuha ko eh. I was pleasantly surprised. Haha. Thanks again, Tina! :D

Thanks, Now back in HKG, wasn't able to enjoy the city due to the bad weather. *sigh*
I was looking for some books unfortunately not yet available on the local bookstores there. I've been contemplating on ordering online but it's too pricey. The joy it brings to see the paperback copies in your shelf.hehe

Yes, anywhere. :) I remember sending one book to Aklan, and it got there safe. Medyo natagalan lang, pero dumating naman. :)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Gel, I've been to HK several times. Pero ni minsan I did not have a chance to shop for books. Are there second-hand book stores there?

Gel Mariano | 18 comments K.D. wrote: "Gel, I've been to HK several times. Pero ni minsan I did not have a chance to shop for books. Are there second-hand book stores there?"

Not that I'm aware of. It's quite expensive actually so most of the time I prefer to have the ebook on my pad/kindle instead of purchasing the real book. Example Fifty shades of grey u can have for HKD175 (Php1050.00) and that was just a paperback copy. I made sure to get what I need whenever I go home in Pinas kaya lang wala pa dyan yung mga hinahanap kong copy.=)

message 6992: by Pau (new)

Pau (pau_b) | 23 comments Hello! I'm Pau.

I've just recently discovered Goodreads, and this group. I am a newbie on so many levels.

My favorite author is Terry Pratchett. I mostly read his work, as well as YA dystopian books that have invaded literary shops everywhere. (My most recently read YA Dystopia is Eve by Anna Carey.) I also enjoy high fantasy but satire bakes my cake and adds frosting too, then serves it on dainty china with painted flowers. However, I also read a lot of classics, some chic lit, YA of British authors, and historical fiction and non-fiction. I am not picky with what I read (mostly whatever I pull out of the bargain bins at BOOKSALE). But I can be quite honest with my reviews (read: scathing).

I would dearly love to join one of the book discussion meet-ups if and when I get the chance (and if I have the book).

It's nice to meet you all. Have a great day :)

message 6993: by Tina (last edited Sep 21, 2012 03:43AM) (new)

Tina (tinamats) | 2665 comments Hi Pau! :) Welcome to the group! I know a few here who like Terry Pratchett, but I've yet to try him. :) I also enjoy a bit of dystopia rin -- have you read Patrick Ness' Chaos Walking series?

And I had to laugh about your reviews -- we all do that sometimes. :D

I do hope you can join us for a discussion! We have one this weekend for In Cold Blood -- if you're free, join us. :) And then we're reading Pride and Prejudice next month. :)

message 6994: by Pau (new)

Pau (pau_b) | 23 comments Hello Tina! Thank you po :)

Di pa ako masyadong nageexplore ng dystopia. So far, Divergent-Insurgent (at Eve) pa lang nababasa ko. Mukhang masmatutuwa ako sa Chaos Walking (just had to google it) bilang maayos ang pagkakasulat sa wikipedia at sabi niya pa, nakatangap pa ng maraming positive reviews. Masgusto ko ung bata ang bida pero pang-adult ang pagkakasulat (no sugar coating and cleaning up). Kung magkakaroon ng budget ay hahanapin ko siya sa Fully Booked and/or Power Books :)

YES, I just saw that October is Pride and Prejudice month on another thread. I must say that it gives mo no greater pleasure than to explore Regency England again! I enjoy Jane Austen very much. She has to get props for being so romantic at such a difficult time for women. I'm so looking forward to this :)

message 6995: by Aaron Vincent (new)

Aaron Vincent (aaronvincent) | 2053 comments A Terry Pratchett fan! You've read the entire Discworld series? For reals? I think you should try Jasper Fforde. They have the similar sense of British(dry, very very dry) humour. And Jasper Fforde has an excellent dystopian novel too: Shades of Grey. (Don't be mistaken with THAT book.)

Some YA Dystopian recommendations: Unwind, The Giver and yes, The Chaos Walking trilogy.
