How do I recommend a book to the girls??

I read the first two in this trilogy, I think it might be a good pick actually, ty! I need to start a sticky thread for book suggestions too, thanks Becky!

I really wanna read these books, I have always wanted to. I think we'll make December a forum choice month! Shall we do a round of Genre narrowing and then title narrowing? Or just titles? If local groups got together then we could establish some suggestions and then put a visible poll up for books to vote on, does that sound good?

I'd say pick genre first then title. Help narrow things down a little.
I think it would be fun to have a genre poll, take nominations from everyone on the genre and have enough time before the November hangout to do a few rounds of polls to narrow things down. We might also have enough time to announce it in advance and give everyone some extra reading time since the holidays are coming up!
If you want help running some rounds of polls, let me know!

Oh and actually I've always seen Felicia as Rachel aswell!
Ramble over.

There's been controversy over authors recommending their books or getting people to join groups specifically to vote for their book. So you may want to have something in place about that.
Also, one thing I really love about this group is how I've read some thing I wouldn't have picked up otherwise. When you have a poll it just naturally becomes a popularity contest and we're going to end up with fewer of those picks. So although I'm all for an occasional poll, I hope you'll continue to have picks that don't rely on polls.

I second this. An occasional poll to take some of the work off the ladies is okay, but I really like being exposed to books and authors I might never have read otherwise.

If we had a nominations thread and then had Felicia and the ladies pick the books for the polls we could hopefully avoid some of that. There still might be some inflation of the votes - but at least we would know that the books are good suggestions.

Both series have definite romance, although it's YA romance so the sexytimes, while they happen, might not be raunchy enough for this crowd's tastes for a VF book ;)

This thread has also got me curious about her writing - I've read part of her co-authored series House of Night and wasn't a fan. But, I don't want to hijack this thread completely, so I've started a new thread over here to discuss her!
Shannon wrote: "After hearing the most recent VF meetup, given the kind of book Veronica wants to write herself into, she should totally read the Graceling series by Kristin Cashore..."
I would definitely recommend Graceling for readers who don't mind a more YA focused book. The romance was good, but like Shannon says there's not much in the way of smut. In fact, I would say the smut meter comes in for Graceling around the same as it did for Poison Study.

I've read....3 of those so far and enjoyed them. I believe there's a 4th I haven't picked up yet though.

Another small annoyance is that her character is 6 feet tall, which is unusual for a woman (though perhaps not so for witches), and that EVERY guy is taller than this.
However, every book in the series that I've read (6 so far) has been interesting, fun and sexy. Her relationship with vampires, particularly her (female) vampire colleague, has some kinky aspects, and I also liked the sexy-but-not-carnal experience she had with a fellow (male) witch.

As mentioned above, having a poll every month could be problematic. I definitely enjoy it when our hosts pick out books (can you say Cthulhurotica?) that might not survive a poll.

I'm with you on this pick! One of my favorite series.

And, now, I'm reading Retribution, book #3. Still loving it. Easy reads and LOTS of sexy scenes.
After chatting with the author, I am happily awaiting books 4 & 5, which are in the works :)

I have not read

But I think that

I totally love the Fever Series, also.
I like the idea of having pick the next read polls a couple times per year.
Whatever happens, I am loving the VF book club. I have discovered some great reads that I never would have otherwise, even if I have not liked them all.

Anyone else read/love these novels?
I'll be putting up a poll this week to choose next month's book! The way we did it last time, we did a blind suggestion poll where people can write the books in if they want, and then I culled the top ten. I think an easier one to do would be to do a NON blind poll and have you guys see who is voting for what, and submit your own suggestions to the poll as well. Actually, I'll post it today :D

I heard an interview with the author and it seems intriguing. No paranormal, but plenty of sexy times.

Legend of the Icepeople! Historical fantasy fiction romance.
There are 47 books in the series, they are all short and written in a light, enjoyable style makes them easy to breeze through.
But just because the writing style is light, some pretty heavy stuff goes on. The saga begins during a plague during the late 1500's Norway with this one: Spellbound.
They are total comfort reading. Sexy-times vary in amount and style from book to book, character to character. Some books have more than one set of love interests.
The one downside with the translations is that they don't seem to have the awesome original covers, which include classics like these:
Feber i blodet
Våroffer
I know that there have got to be some other VF peeps out there who have read these books! :)
(I edited this to correct the number of books in the series.)

I can't believe I had forgotten about them.
Reading the first two books for VF would be great. This is such a good series.
I read the first book when I was 12. I have to admit, some of them are a bit racy at least for a 12 year old.

Yay! I knew I couldn't be the only one! My sisters and I are obsessed with them.
I just keep thinking how much fun they the VF girls would have with them. I could just see Felicia enjoying the soppy romance of the Silje storyline, and Bonnie hating that Silje gets "saddled" with the orphans, but then Bonnie loving the bits with Sol running around seducing anything with chest-hair and going on hallucinogenic "wild rides" to have sex with Satan. (Ok, those might have been slight-spoilers but I prefer to think of them as interest-grabbers!)
I'm gushing too much perhaps, but they are so gooood!

Thanks for the recommendations, Lisa :)

You should also check out the author Katie Macalister. Her Guardian series was good, and also the Dragon serieses(?--what is the plural for "series"?) that were a spin off of the Guardian. She's written a ton of books in the paranormal romance genre, and has a humorous approach that I enjoy. My husband gets a laugh just reading the titles on my kindle.
