3. When God was a Rabbit by Sarah Winman (ebook) and Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater (paperback). (I too always read several at the same time...)
4. I usually don't plan my next read in advance... what i read depends on what i'm in a mood for at the time. Having said that, probably Love Remains by Glen Duncan, but perhaps Animal's People by Indra Sinha, Cold Light by Jenn Ashworth, The Passage by Justin Cronin, Incarnation by Emma Cornwall or Dracula: The Graphic Novel? We'll see :)
1. Paradise Now by Jari Moate2. The Yiddish Policemen's Union by Michael Chabon
3. Ringworld by Larry Niven (I'm also listening to the audiobook of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy but I'm not very good at concentrating on audiobooks and keep missing stuff)
4. Swimming Home by Deborah Levy (probably, not completely sure)
1. Just bought In The Woods and Frankenstein at the local used bookshop today.2. Finishing up The Death of Kings

1. From my most recent library jaunt, I will name just one book for brevity’s sake “Swamplandia” by Karen Russell2. I just finished The Colour of Milk (on your recommendation). It was devastating but brilliant.
3. I am currently reading Barchester Towers by Anthony Trollope
4. I plan to read the Age of Miracles next.

Oh good to hear the Pickwick Papers is great. I plan to read all Dickens' novels (8 and counting), but was a bit worried that PP would be a let down, since it is not that well known.
PP is absolutely hilarious! I was worried too, for the same reason, but am totally impressed! I definitely recommend it! :)

I also read recently at http://karensbooksandchocolate.blogsp... that Barnaby Rudge was good too, which I was happy to know. Of his "famous" books, I only really have Oliver Twist to read yet and the rest are the lesser known novels.

House of Leaves? Good golly. Talk about daunting. :)
Borrowed from Library: The Age of Desire
. (Good book! About Edith Wharton)Just Read: The Song of Achilles
Loved it!Reading: Matterhorn: A Novel of the Vietnam War
Next: The Round House
(Love this author and discovering more about my Native American heritage. This book is supposed to be the "To Kill a Mockingbird" for Native Americans, so I have to check it out.)
it looks nice with the covers in your lists, but it would be great if you would write out the titles and/or the author too, because it's impossible to see what books they are (at least on my computer screen).
@ magdalena,i put in titles in my list. i understand how difficult it can be to read.
@ sydney,
i'm eager to read your review for matterhorn. that's on my list for my christmas break.
1. "11/22/63" from the library. I had this on reserve and was hoping to get it closer to the actual date. But who knows, I may still be reading it then! 2. "Of Mice and Men." A re-read from my own bookshelf. Devastatingly beautiful.
3. See answer #1. This is a tome, 800+ pages! I'm hoping for lots of reading time this weekend! This may be one of the few times I wish I had a Kindle since I read in bed a lot (shhhh, don't tell Simon!), but there is a sense of satisfaction when I put my bookmark in and can see my progress!
4. "In Other Rooms, Other Wonders" for book club, and Trollope's "The Warden."
1. Last book I bought:
2. Just read:

Nose in a book wrote: (I'm also listening to the audiobook of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy but I'm not very good at listening on audiobooks and keep missing stuff)I read Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy earlier this year and it took me several weeks to get through it, even though it isn't that long. I kept falling asleep after reading only twenty pages and had to re-read several chapters. Thank heavens I didn't try the audiobook version!
For those that are getting into House of Leaves: just be willing to forgive yourself when you want to skim some of the more obtuse parts. It's ok, you'll get what you need out of it. Just bought: Paragon Walk which is the third in a mystery series, I like it but wondering if I will tire of the author's conventions soon. I'm switching from audiobook to text to see if it reads differently.
Just finished: Callander Square and The Emperor of All Maladies. I tend to do one fiction and one non at the same time so something will fit my mood. The former is from the same mystery series.
Reading now: Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail though it's kind of bumming me out so I might need to find something else. I get really emotionally effected by books and if an author is depressed, I'll get depressed. No Plath for me.
To read next: whatever fiction book my book club picks on Monday! Feel free to suggest nice compact books, because I am at a loss as to what to suggest to them!

I really like that Anne Perry series (and her William Monk series even more!), but I don't think I'd want to read the books too close together. They can be quite dark, mainly because she's so good (too good?) at really making you feel the helplessness of being in a situation you can't change or run away from, especially for women.
Just Finished Stones from the River, it was AMAZING. . . I know Gav and Simon, it IS about WW2, but still amazing. Main character is a dwarf, and I don't know why, but for years I assumed (b/c there's a painting of a village on the cover and the swastika photo was too small I didn't notice), I thought it was about Tolkien dwarfs. . . but it's not. . . GREAT read! 5 starsCurrently reading from Library Half of a Yellow Sun on audio, An Economist Gets Lunch: New Rules for Everyday Foodies, which oddly, I found on the ground at the San Jose airport. It was actually on my TBR b/c the NY TImes book review podcast had given it a great review and the library didn't have it, so I was pondering whether to buy it. So, I have to admit that although I DID ask around if it belonged to anyone who was boarding our plane, I didn't turn it in to airport personel and kept it. . . is that wrong??
I just picked up The Warden from the library, that's next!
@Becky: No, that is not wrong. You did your due dilligence in trying to find the owner and then gave the book a good home :0
I just borrowed Persuasuin by Jane Austen and The Appointment by Herta Muller, both from the library. I have recently bought too many to list (and have hidden some away so as not to attract comments from spouse and children). Currrently, I am reading the aforementioned Persuasion and also Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter by Mario Vargas Llosa which I read when it was first published and is a wonderful reread. Next up, The Appointment for book club and then a mystery off my TBR, but not sure which one.
Mine all have an Aussie flavour except for the classic.I just bought 'By the Book A Readers Guide to Life' by Ramona Koval who was former host of Radio National Australia Bookshow and sorely missed.
Just read 'The Sinkings' by Amanda Curtin.
Reading now ' Dracula' by Bram Stoker.
Next up is and a reread for bookgroup is ' The Spare Room' by Helen Garner.
1. Just borrowed, The Book of Blood and Shadow - Robin Wasserman2. Just read, The Rook - O'Malley (it was awesome!)
3. Reading now, The Weird Compendium - Vandermeers
4. Reading next, The Anubis Gates - Tim Powers
1. Last book bought - "This Will Make You Smarter - New Scientific Concepts to Improve Your Thinking" - it can't hurt, right?2. Just finished "Albert of Adelaide" borrowed from the library. LOVED IT.
3. Finally reading "Cloud Atlas" so I can go see the movie. Might sneak in a little Neil Gaiman from "Fragile Things" for Halloween.
4. I am determined to finish up a few books that I've started but made no progress on for months - "Autobiography of a Yogi" and "Imagine."
Hello Everyone, first time poster here after discovering the podcast and, as a result, Goodreads a couple of weeks ago... Last book borrowed was the first in the Game of Thrones series..
2. I completed Ten Weeks in Africaby JM Shaw. Enough conflicting emotion for me to leave a review...
3. I generally read 3 books at a time - the first with a 'Classic' tilt: Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K. Jerome,
the second more Contemporary: I, Partridge: We Need to Talk About Alan.
And finally, a Sci-Fi / Fantasy / Horror: The Stand by Stephen King.
4. What you are going to read next...
To join in with Classically challenged, I'm going to give The Warden a whirl (I am disappointed I missed Persuasion)
I'm really looking forward to The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt - I hope it meets my expectations,
And I'll be getting into the world of Game of Thrones - which I know little about apart from the size of the book!
Here's my list:1. What the last book you bought/borrowed was? Talulla Rising by Glen Duncan and My First Suicide by Jerzy Pilch, both borrowed from the library
2. What you have just read...Talulla Rising, which I finished an hour ago.
3. What you are reading now... Since I just finished my last book an hour ago, nothing yet.
4. What you are going to read next...
Not sure yet. Maybe the aforementioned My First Suicide. Or maybe Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy by John Le Carre, which I've been meaning to read for awhile. There's also When Will There by Good News by Kate Atkinson waiting in my unread pile. Any suggestions?
@Tiffany: I adore Kate Atkinson, so if you need a nudge, I say read When Will There Be Good News next!
@Paul: Not to add more to your already high expectations, but I thought The Sisters Brothers was great...a lot of fun to read. I hope you enjoy it as much!
I bought The Casual VacancyI just read State of Wonder by Ann Patchett and Memoirs of a Imaginary Friend by someone?
I am reading now Illumination by Kevin Brockmeier and Wool.
I will probably read the Casual Vacancy next.
@Ruthiella - Hello - and thanks - I've recently changed jobs, and my new role has freed up a lot of time thanks to slightly shorter hours and a much reduced commute. I have always enjoyed reading, and am enjoying the opportunity to spend more time in a book! Sisters Brothers has been waiting since the 2011 Booker......

@paul - once you have finished The Sisters Brothers, you could go to http://www.themorningnews.org/tob/sta.... Its entry and subsequent review in the 2012 Tournament of Books really clinched my resolve to read the book. PS The Sisters Brothers also went on to win the tournament.
