Lise annoyed me with the way she is constantly contradicting herself!

I finished this section of reading today.
Lise is immature in my opinion and likely self-conscious because of her infirmity. I'm curious to see whether she grows up throughout the course of the novel.
I found Ivan's comments about the suffering of children to be the most thought provoking part of the book thus far. I believe that his feelings emulate many of those people who struggle with their faith in God. Dostoevsky really nailed it in this chapter. Moreover, I have a completely new perspective in regard to Ivan now. I originally found him to be a bit creepy, but now I understand the turmoil that he has had inside of him and how powerless he feels to cease all that is cruel and inhumane with the world.
I am finding this book to be brilliant on many levels.

I agree with Sera about Ivan's struggles with faith. It was fascinating to finally look into the depths of the character's soul. Previous theological discussions in the book really bored me, but this one was very interesting.
