Hey Katy

Sorry to hear about this latest complication with the bloodclot. Please make sure your surgeon and oncologist knows about the blood thinner as that particular medication can be dangerous in certain circumstances.

i hope i'm not overstepping- years ago a family member was given this med for a clot while recovering in rehab post surgery and her surgeon who worked at another hospital was not consulted and she ended up in intensive care with a severe bleed. obviously clots have to be treated and i'm not saying this med is bad in all situations- it's obviously fine for some people depending on the situation.

i hope you don't mind me sharing this-i'm not a med professional and i'm sure the med is probably safe for you but it's best to always double check when prescribed meds to prevent complications. i know my family was so stressed out during that time and we just assumed the rehab doc knew what she was doing so we didn't question her use of the meds.

again i hope you don't mind my two cents- i know you're going through so much-you continue to be in my thoughts and prayers-hugs to you

6:56AM Plan on finishing Witch & Wizard - The Fire today. It is so much better than the first one! I am loving it. Then gonna read a contemporary called Man and Boy and after that gonna visit with Joe and The Extinction Machine! Good Morning GR!

Woot Alondra glad Joe showed up for you! Wink!

message 11510: by Katy (new)

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments Thanks for your thoughts, Rachel. The oncologist is actually the one who is prescribing the anticoagulants. My surgery was almost 4 months ago, so I should be fine there, although my stoma sometimes bleeds when it become irritated, so I'll have to keep an eye on that. If that happens, I'll have to contact my surgeon's nurse to see what if anything I can do.

5:16 p.m. EDT So I finally was called back from the clinic first thing this morning and they wanted me to come in at 11:15. It was very inconvenient, because my husband hadn't slept so he could go do laundry this morning, and I knew if he had to run me around it would keep him from his sleep before work. But we didn't really have a choice; Medicaid wouldn't cover the medication that my doctor wanted me to be on, so I have to stick with the Lovenox injections (at least through Monday) plus I'm supposed to start on Coumadin tonight... Since the clinic is closed, I'll have to go to the hospital tomorrow, Sunday and Monday for the shot, then Tuesday is my chemo, so we'll be going from there. I've been reading some pretty crazy fun books lately. I wanted to try to find a space opera series I want to read, but couldn't find it. I did find some other stuff, though, that I now have to read... LOL I'm really tired; I didn't sleep very well last night and didn't take a nap this afternoon as I didn't want to until I have hubby off to work. That's about all that's going on here... I hope everyone is doing well and has a nice Memorial Day weekend.

Pierre 18:17 EST I don't know if you ever read Lois McMaster Bujold? If not, you may want to read her Vorkosigan Saga. This is a great science fiction/space opera series. The first book is Shards of Honour.

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 1870 comments 9:02 PM. Hey my bookworm buddies! Sorry I haven't been posting much these last few days. I just haven't been in a Goodreads mood for some reason. Ever feel like you just want to get away from technology? Anyways, I have been reading, and I finished The Empty Chair by Jeffery Deaver and started My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. There isn't much going on in our neck of the woods: keeping up with my plants/gardening, reading, house stuff, and lovin' on my kitties, who have been really sweet, like always. Tonight we are grilling some bbq chicken, corn on the cob, and some potatoes. YUM! Anyways, I hope you are all doing well. I have been keeping up with posts, but just not posting much.

12:56AM Had a very busy day! Had Chinese for dinner, made Lo mein and Egg rolls. YUM! Walked 3 miles after dinner, it was great. Got an app on my phone to tell me how many miles and also maps it out for me. Amy was here visiting for a bit and then tomorrow, or today I guess now LOL, we are cooking out, hamburgers, sausage, hot dogs, maybe even grilled fish, we will see. So Derek had a friend over and so did Kay so we had a full house!

Kathryn I miss seeing your posts. Sorry you have been in a posting slump! Sounds like you had a good dinner! G'night Good reads!

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 1870 comments 9:10 AM. GOOD MORNING, GR!!!! I have been up for quite a while...Since about 6. The sun is shining bright today! I just finished eating cereal and drinking some coffee. We have to go take Mark's truck in to get new tires, alignment, etc, at 10 AM. I'm not too sure what we are doing after that, but I'm going to go dry my hair, brush my teeth, and read until it's time to go. Happy Saturday, everyone!!

2:24 p.m. Just got home from babysitting. Plan to do nothing but reading this weekend since I've basically read about 100 total for the last week. Really need to catch up now. I thought that I would have some reading time but not with a nine month old. Well I'm off until Tuesday. Marathon reading Memorial Day weekend :D

I haven't read them, but they are on my wishlist to collect and read when I can.

1:21 a.m. EDT Didn't feel like logging in yesterday, but had to stop by before 4 a.m. to check my wishlist for freebies! Anyway, had my Lovenox and blood drawn and then we had lunch again at DePalma's. I had shrimp scampi on angel hair pasta; it was pretty tasty. My poor stomach is all dotted with holes now, and I still have two more days (at least) to go! I don't know how diabetics do it. All those needles *shudder*

Watching Glee and checking GR while my almost-2-year old son wrecks the place, and then heading off to read Eragon. He'll probably pick up a book and sit next to me and turn the pages, like he always does. He can't read, yet, but he's a bookworm already :) <3

message 11520: by Pierre (new)

Pierre 7:18 EST Relaxing while drinking my coffee and catching up on GR. I had a great father-son day yesterday. My son and I finished the new, expanded garden and planted our tomato plants and one cucumber plant. We will add to that today. We then went for a film double bill seeing Godzilla and X-Men Days of Future Past.
Such fun!

10:47am EDT. It's a glorious spring day, sun shining, all the windows open. My younger son is visiting us from Cleveland, so it's been really great. I think we're going to the cemetery later today. Son and hub went to the Reds game last night. Had really great seats, too bad they lost. Planning a great dinner later--turkey burgers, corn on the cob, and some Yukon gold potatoes that I parboil and then smash and grill till they're crusty. Mmmmmmm! Feeling pretty positive mentally, just trying to maintain. Happy Sunday everyone!

Katy, glad you're eating! Are you on an anticoagulant? I've been on Coumadin for years. I hate the monthly blood tests. (I have no veins left after my years of poor health.) Happy to see you continue with such a positive attitude. ********HUGS and POSITIVE ENERGY TO YOU**********

Kathryn, I've been in posting slumps before. Glad to hear what you've been up to.

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 1870 comments 10:01 AM. Good morning, GR! I'm listening to The Moody Blues while I'm waiting on The Boy to finish this thing he's doing outside on the garden, then breakfast. I've got to plant my new hydrangea bush today. I had to wait because it started to rain after we got home. The storm had lots of lightning and thunder, so I didn't want to get struck by lightning. Anyways, I need to get the dishes done, as well, and read. I'm really enjoying My Sister's Keeper.

Terri, good morning! Glad to see a post from you. Gizmo and Pepper say hi and send you and Charlie hugs. :)

2:21 p.m. and I just got back from the zoo. I'm really happy today because I was able to walk through the whole zoo (hills and all). It took us three hours at a leisurely pace. First time since I broke my back and had all the kidney stones that I've been able to walk that far. AND my granddaughter's dog had her puppies this morning. Five of them.

I feel for you Katie the injections aren't much fun - I had to have Clexane injections for a week a couple of weeks ago when I had to fly somewhere. I must have done something wrong when I injected one of them because I ended up with a MASSIVE lump and bruise - it is still fading even a couple of weeks later!

I should be finished with Eighth Grade Bites by tonight; which will put me at about eight books for the month of May. thank goodness, because i was a slacker last month!! :O

As long as we have no more cookouts to go to, I'm good. We went to like 6 different places for cookouts this weekend, it was fun but I'm over it now, ready for some quieter fun, lol. Maybe we'll go to the park or something, that'd be nice, I could go for a hike! Ah, but first I need a Red Bull... :D

10:22AM Wow after seeing all these posts I feel as though I have been gone for a long time. LOL So today we are going to go into town, hub said I can go to the Book store if I want. And what do you suppose I said? HAHA! Gonna relax a bit more today than the last few days. Want to finish my book today!

Terri so glad to see you post. Hope you are having a great weekend!

Jen you can start it when you want I guess. I chose relatively short books for my challenge. I hope you get through yours!

Shell the app I got is called Map my walk. It is pretty good although it is not showing the calorie burner, so not sure why it is doing that. My oldest daughter has the same app and it shows her calories burned.

message 11547: by Katy (new)

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments Jordan, sorry to hear you still don't feel well. I hope you'll feel better soon.

Cindy, great news on the zoo walk! I can't walk more than maybe 10 or 15 minutes on level ground, less on a slope.

Terri, glad to see you posting and that you had a good day. Yes, they found a clot in my arm, so I've been having Lovenox injections daily since Friday, and started taking Coumadin Friday night. Tomorrow I'll found out where we'll be going from here, if I need to keep taking the Lovenox, or what.

There is a new page of comments, so I'll leave this one, read the next page and the leave my official update...

message 11548: by Katy (new)

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments 2:15 p.m. EDT Yesterday after having my Lovenox injection, we went to IHOP for a late breakfast/early lunch, and I had pancakes. Today we stopped by Jittery Joe's (a local coffee franchise) and I had an Italian soda and chocolate croissant, then we went to Beef O'Brady's, because my husband wanted lunch, and I had some fries. Wasn't really hungry for more than that today, but then again I was up at 4 a.m. eating cereal, so... Anyway, I didn't log in at all yesterday because I had started the Night Angel Trilogy omnibus (Brent Weeks) and the thing is a real door-stopper - almost 1400 pages - so I wanted to jump in and make some headway before I was distracted for hours by the Internet... :-) Hope everyone is having a great Memorial Day (for USA) or a great Monday (everyone else)!

message 11549: by Alissa (new)

Alissa Patrick (apatrick12211) 2:35p- I am working today. I work at a bank that deals with international clients (South America) so... heigh ho heigh ho.. but at least I get paid time and a half! Plus, it's pretty slow here so im getting some quality reading done!! I didn't get a lot of reading done this weekend due to taking advantage of the beautiful weather and getting some flowers to plant for our landscaping.

But here on this boring work day, I managed to be very productive reading-wise- I finished Shadow and Bone Shadow and Bone (The Grisha, #1) by Leigh Bardugo , a book that I really enjoyed- I give it 3 stars, and will definitely be continuing with the series.

I also managed to start and finish a book within a few hours-I love it when that happens!! A Separate Peace A Separate Peace by John Knowles . It is only 204 pages, and I felt it was a nice read. Yet another Classic to cross off my list!

I have a few smaller books (in terms of page numbers) that I may try to tackle before the month of May draws to a close: I have them on my Banned Books List.

Go Ask Alice by Beatrice Sparks Go Ask Alice

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (Scary Stories #1) by Alvin Schwartz Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark

I should be good to finish both in the next few days, and then it's June!! I have some heavy- hitters in June to prepare for, with buddy reads and group reads. Yay!
