Janelle Absolute Power was an awesome book! I think you'll like it, and I hear good things about Bag of Bones.

Janelle | 347 comments Corey, I remembered your recommendation and that is why I got it :^) Bag of Bones was a good movie, but I knew the book would be even better!

Corey I really liked Bag of Bones and I liked the movie too. A lot of people did not like the movie because it was not like the book. But it had been awhile since I had read the book which is probably why I liked the movie.

Wasn't Pierce Brosnan in the movie, or am I thinking of another movie?

He is a good actor, speaking of which, have you seen any of the James Bond movies because he played one of the later versions of Bond.

message 3511: by Janelle (new)

Janelle | 347 comments I only seen him in Golden Eye way back when it came out in the movies, Corey. I need to see it again. I remember it being exciting.

Goldeneye was one of the best ones, it was the first Bond movie I'd seen as a kid.

Janelle | 347 comments I recently purchased The Children of Men by P D. James, Enemy of God and The Winter King by Bernard Cornwell.
Janie, the copy of Insomnia at the library sale had stains throughout some pages so I did not get it.

Janelle I hate finding books that have stains on them, or if they smell like cigarettes, like if people have been smoking around them.

message 3516: by Janelle (new)

Janelle | 347 comments Me too Corey. I was willing to fix the spine and it had slight coloring, but the stains were a deal breaker.

Corey I used to be a smoker and they could be in a separate room and still smell like smoke. It is a horrible odor to get out of anything.

Janelle I certainly understand why you would not buy it. It does take away from the book and from reading it.

Janice (jamasc) I picked up a few books today:

The Magicians
Blood Work
Days of Blood & Starlight
Dreams of Gods & Monsters

I'm going to have to reread Daughter of Smoke & Bone before I tackle book 2 and 3 in the series to refresh my memory.

Janice I really enjoyed Daughter of Smoke and Bone, I read it on my kindle, then I bought Days of Blood & Starlight. I think I wanna read DOSAB again first before I move onto the next one. There is a lot to absorb in that first book.

message 3528: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) I agree, Janie. I've forgotten most of it.

Melissa Price | 67 comments I hope it's okay for me to share some books in here still. I haven't been in here in a long time, but I got a suprise B&N GC in email and since I don't favor B&N I justbwent to the bargain books. I'm thrilled to share with all of you because you're always so great at finding suchbgreat books at great deals. Before I was agoraphobic I was able to, but now not so much. I miss those days. Anyway, I knew that if anyone would appreciate little haul of books at bargain prices it would be you in this group. You're awesome like that.

You may not like the books, but I've always wanted a taste of some of these and two that I couldn't afford from the 2014 ish year. They didn't have much, but I get to enjoy some of the classics I've always wanted to know more about.

William Shakespeare Complete Plays by William Shakespeare

F. Scott Fitzgerald Classic Works Two Novels and Nineteen Short Stories by F. Scott Fitzgerald

The Greatest Adventures of Sherlock Homes by Arthur Conan Doyle I actually have another edition of Sherlock Holmes complete edition, but like I said the selection in the bargain books was limited. It's good though because I can keep my collectors edition shrink wrapped and read this one. I love Sherlock.....

Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales by Jacob Grimm

Hans Christian Andersen Best Loved Fairy Tales by Hans Christian Andersen

Some of the classics I've read, but so happy to have them in my rebuilding book collection.

And the next two I've wanted forever and couldn't afford.

A Sudden Light by Garth Stein by Garth Stein was $2.99

And FINALLY *YAY*

Landline by Rainbow Rowell by Rainbow Rowell which was $3.99

So so happy to finally have those last two. Thankful for the bargain price and the surprise GC.

It's been a long time since I've been here and I hope you're all well!!

Thank you for reading this. I've been to myself more than ever lately and really wanted to share these with all of you because I adore your shared posts of the hauls and bargains. Happy Reading and Bargain shopping everyone. Happy I could bring some of those to share. :')

Janie- They do have some great books at great prices. They have several Stephen Kings. In paperback they have 11/22/63, Joyland, and Mr.Mercedes. In hardback they have Geralds Game, Storm of the Century, The Wind Through the Keyhole, Songs of Susannah, Wolves of Calla, The Dark Tower, Pet Cemetery, Colorado Kid,and From a Buick 8. All priced $3.99 and under. They might have Under the Dome too. I can't remember.

The ones I have been searching for the longest are book 1-4 of the dark tower series in the illustrated hardbacks, and no luck so far. I also do not own The Colorado Kid or The Storm of the Century in paper or hardback. I do have a lot of king books but I always discover there are so many more I do not have lol

I really like The Tommyknockers, a lot of people did not like that one, but I thought it was great!

message 3546: by Victor (new)

Victor I've been buying a lot of books lately. From the used bookstore I bought the first five books in the Anita Vampire Hunter Series. I heard the books get kind of drawn out and more focused on sex, but I at least plan on reading the first couple. A lot of people I trust say the first six or so books are the best.

I also bought the third book in Vampire Academy series, Shadow Kiss. I had to have the store order it for me. I really need to read the rest of the series so I also bought Blood Promise, Spirit Bound and The Last Sacrifice from Amazon.

From Amazon I also ordered the Lux series. I just finished the Fifth Wave and I kind of want to read some more alien books. I also heard the series is kind of like Twilight which I love!

Victor the Anita Blake series started out so promising and then ACK she took it way south so I just could not get into them anymore. I feel like she ruined the series for me. Anita Blake was one of my favorite Female protagonists.

message 3548: by Victor (new)

Victor I'm reading the first one right now Janie and I really like how strong Anita is. Her job and the world is really interesting so far. What book did you stop at?

I agree with Janie, Victor. It was so awesome with the first few books; then by 4 or 5; you start to question things. I stopped, as well.

I am hoping someone says it gets better; but I have yet to see where that happens.

To me, it is like she is trying to claim some of the Twilight fans with the direction of the series; but I thought the series was older than Twilight. I don't know; I just hated the direction it went in. :(

*...Double sad face...* :( :(

Victor I think I read till book 7 I wanna say. UGH Anita was a very strong character and I loved that about her and I loved her job, but she just went the wrong way with it.

Alondra I have a friend on Booktube who is still reading the series, and he says that it pretty goes south and stays there. My hub read through to book 10 I think and he said the same thing. It is really sad that a series like that went so horribly bad.
