Hoping this will be enjoyable and help me develop my manuscript.

Never heard of it. Sounds interesting. I think I'll add this to my reading list.

Will you be leaving a review at some point?

Thank you for sharing!

message 1706: by Clint (new)

Clint | 341 comments @Myron I’m pretty sporadic at best about leaving reviews. I enjoyed the book. It’s cover is old school greatness. The stories are all enjoyable, some better than others. I would not call it a good jumping in point for anyone unfamiliar with S&S, as these aren’t the best S&S I’ve read, but for the initiated, this collection is great.

David Craig | 6 comments About to start my Malazan re-read, in chronological order (starting with the Kharkanas books). I've not read these books since early 2013 so it will be my first time reading Fall of Light, the Dancer trilogy, and the second collection of Bauchalain/Broach novellas.

The Joy of Erudition | 138 comments I think this one I'm reading counts as sword and sorcery. I like it so far!
The Sundered Realm by Robert E. Vardeman
The Sundered Realm by Robert E. Vardeman and Victor Milán

Strong adult themes, so be forewarned."

I was fore-encouraged! I already plan to read the whole series, and probably others from this author, based on what I've read so far!

The Joy of Erudition | 138 comments And really, the content I've seen as of 1/3 of the way in seems to be no stronger than what I've seen in Sarah J. Maas' work. 😆

It's rather good.

Mary Catelli | 968 comments The Unbearable Heaviness of Remembering by L. Jagi Lamplighter

Opens with a lock-down. Which obviously, given the length of time it takes to write a book, is a coincidence.

During the lock-down, i was determined to clear some of the older books off my bookshelf. I really liked the first two in this series.

Getting a head start on the lost continents with Clark Ashton Smith's Poseidonis.

And, having finished Poseidonis, I decided to go back and finish up Tanith Lee's Birthgrave trilogy, so started Shadowfire, the second book.

(Although I much prefer its original title, Vazkor, Son of Vazkor.)

message 1723: by Mary (new)

Mary Catelli | 968 comments I remember that series. Though the library had only the second and third books.

What I remember best at the moment is that there is a plague as plot device in the third.

I read the entire trilogy, but it was on the order of 20 years ago, so my recollections of books 2 & 3 are … fuzzy at best. Interesting about the plague.

So far, the narrator is pretty unsympathetic, with that kind of casual 1970s attitude towards sexual violence.

Mary Catelli | 968 comments He doesn't get better.

Though circumstances jogged my memory about the third book. 0:)

I wasn't expecting him to, TBH. :)

Finished Shadowfire and started the third in the trilogy, Hunting the White Witch. Which was originally called Quest for the White Witch, and I have no idea why it was retitled -- I can KIND OF see the logic of switching "Vazkor, Son of Vazkor" to "Shadowfire" on the second book, but this one just seems so … minor.

Started Louise Cooper's The Initiate for probably the first time in 25 years. She was taken from us entirely too soon and is sadly obscure these days, at least in the US.

Richard wrote: "I remember enjoying this trilogy"

Yeah, I read it several times when I was young. I also liked her Indigo series. She did also write two other Time Master-related trilogies -- a sequel trilogy and a prequel trilogy -- but they didn't do as much for me.

Loved Thieves World! I read the book club omnibus containing the first three paperbacks. Can't wait to get back into them again.

I'm currently enjoying Dragonslayer for the Groupread

Finished Louise Cooper's Time Master trilogy with The Master, and decided it was time for some sword & planet (or noir & planet, as the case may be) with Lorelei of the Red Mist: Planetary Romances, the second, lovely Haffner Press collection of Leigh Brackett's short stories.

Finished Lorelei of the Red Mist: Planetary Romances and decided to keep going with Leigh Brackett, so next up is Shannach - The Last: Farewell to Mars.

And finished Shannach - The Last: Farewell to Mars (man, Brackett was good!) and started something in the SF vein, Arkady Martine's A Memory Called Empire

I need to read more from her. I've only read one story so far.

Right now, my favorite story might be Enchantress of Venus; but Sword of Rhiannon is also first-rate.
