Rachel (Rachewmarie) | 8 comments It's really important to recognize rhetorical moves in order for us to know exactly what the writer is trying to do or get across to the reader. If you can see what they are doing, then you can recognize their bias and therefore their credibility. Analyzing good and bad rhetorical moves can also help to improve the writing skills of the reader. A writer's craft is extremely important in making the writing successful!

message 56: by Diana (new)

Diana (dv_pictures) | 8 comments It is important to analysis the readers moves because it helps us feel a strong connection to the work and creates a deeper understanding of what the writer wants to portray. We however use rhetorical moves in our own writing to also create a deeper meaning and a strong foundation for our characters. We also use it to organize and make sense of our logos and help strengthen our writing by making us think harder about how and what we're going to say and what words we're going to use to say them.

Rachel (Rachewmarie) | 8 comments Jessica wrote: "We use rhetorical moves to help make our writing better!"

I totally agree! I didn't realize it until we were analyzing yet another peace of writing, and I realized that I was getting really familiar with them all the rhetorical moves.

At first, I didn't really look for "bad" moves but I agree. Getting familiar with the rhetorical devices is important to better our own use of them.

I didn't really think about that, but you're right. When I read through an essay the first time, just to read, I didn't catch to much. However, when I was looking for rhetorical moves, I saw so much more.

Agreed. Getting more practice reading other texts, I believe that it helps us be stronger in our own creations.

message 66: by Dzanna (new)

Dzanna Sprecic | 8 comments It is important to analyze texts for their rhetorical moves because they are what keeps the text as one. Without those rhetorical devices, we'd all be reading monotone sheets of paper. By analyzing these moves, we are able to understand the text and find its deeper meaning. Identifying the author's purpose of writing and use of connotation can help us as writers because we feed off of effective writings.
Man I wrote a lot.

I like how you're very direct, but it would be nice to explain things out. It would also make you a better speaker.:]

message 73: by Matthew (new)

Matthew | 8 comments The reason we analyze the moves a writer makes is to fully understand the context of the literature. Not only does it increase our comprehension the text we read more thoroughly, it also helps us develop our knowledge of the English language and allows us to apply new ideas to our writing.

It is good to gain a greater understanding of what the writer wanted the reader to feel while reading his/her writing.

message 85: by Anthony (new)

Anthony Nguyen | 6 comments By analyzing the rhetorical moves of an author, you are able to see the thought process that that specific author had. By diving into this thought process, an understanding of the emotion and intelligence of the author can be inferred and can be further developed throughout the works of the author. Also, by using rhetorical moves ourselves, the development of our essays become easier and it become a more logical process, rather than a "wishy-washy" slack-fest.

Anthony Nguyen | 6 comments Lisa wrote: "We analyze texts for their rhetorical moves to find a deeper meaning of the texts. By understanding the writer's ethos we can determine their credibility. We can also use moves, such as transitions..."

True, analyzing writers 'move' does help us to get better as a speaker.

message 89: by Tristan (new)

Matt made a good point. Not only does this form of analysis help us to better understand the context, but it also prepares us to use our new skills in future writing.

Tristan Woods (swag1) | 23 comments Elsa wrote: "It is important to analyze the "moves" writers make in order to better understand the story in which you are reading. When reading something you always read to understand in a greater way, and know..."

I agree with Elsa, there is always a new way to understand the text. Whether it is in a deeper meaning, or the words are just plain hard, using rhetorical analysis helps to further understand what the author is trying to say

message 92: by Tristan (new)

Tristan Woods (swag1) | 23 comments Edgar wrote: "It is important to analysis the readers moves because as readers we want feel emotion and intrigue. We can also learn the way that author conveys ideas. The moves the author make are a way of trying..."

I like Edgar's response because it relates to every writer alive. Every writer must use rhetorical steps to liven their papers. Reading other essays and using rhetorical analysis to understand them helps me as a writer to understand what i need to change in my writing.

message 93: by Quentin (new)

Quentin Piaskowski | 4 comments I think we analyze rhetorical moves for an insight into the writers tone, and purpose. I also think we do this to create a better sense for whats going on in a story. We use rhetoric to deepen our ethos/logos/pathos, and to also share our ideas in a more creative way. Using rhetoric helps our society to realize the thought, compassion, and creativity that we have to offer in everyday life.

It's seem funny that by understanding the writer more we can tell whether or not he really is credible in his own writting. It seems funny, but it's totally true!

message 97: by Abbie (new)

Abbie Spica | 5 comments If we analyze the rhetorical moves the author uses, we can improve our own writing based on the effectiveness of the certain move displayed. For example, if the author uses an effective metaphor, we could see how the author used it so we could apply it within our own work.
