Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Want to talk about a character but don't see a thread for them? This is the place!

There are loads of minor characters in the books, like Billy Joe, Francoise, Ray, Radu etc. If you'd like to share some thoughts on them, please post away.

message 2: by Ashlea (new)

Ashlea | 22 comments Hey guys I always find it hard to actually visualise Radu. I just can't imagine him. What do you guys usually picture/ anyone you think he looks similar to in today's world? Thank you in advance :)

message 3: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Great question, Ashlea!! We don't talk enough about Radu.

It says in the books he dresses like one of the three musketeers, has blue eyes and he was known as Radu the handsome. (Oh, and yellow is his favourite colour.) I guess that he probably looks something like Mircea, though possibly not as dark (Cassie speculated one time that of the brothers Mircea might have some wild gypsy blood in him [paraphrasing])

This is probably way off, but I actually picture him a little on the chubby side and quite camp with it. And I always see him as older looking too, even though he's younger than Mircea. Don't ask me to explain, it's just the image that grew in my head! :D

I'll need to give some thought to what famous person he might look like though. I'd kinda like to do another entry for KC's valentine contest with Radu & his boyfriend, but I need a good Radu!

message 4: by Jax (new)

Jax | 831 comments Huh! I love how different everyone's imagination is!

though I don't see Radu as chubby... lol
I see him sorta similar to this... but with black hair.
description

Its the closest I could get... :)

message 5: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments He's cute, Jax!! I likes! And I think you've nailed the eye colour.

I have no idea why I think of him as slightly chubby. I'm pretty sure he's never been described that way in the books, but he just sort of evolved into that in my head. :D

Oh, and we mustn't forget that he has great legs too!!

message 6: by Jax (new)

Jax | 831 comments Tx ;)

Legs and hands...
I'm not sure why, but I see him having pianist hands...
And I have no idea when or why that detail stuck. lol

As for Chubby - perhaps your mind linked in to Porthos played by Gerard Depardieu =P

Though to be honest - I just CANNOT envision the guy in my pic in canary yellow. My brain just refuses to go there! :D

message 7: by Anna (new)

Anna | 1680 comments Hmm I see him as quite a lot older and certainly not athletic, though this guy does have a French look. I suppose I see him as an older eccentric uncle.

message 8: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Here ya go Jax ...

Is this Radu?

He actually looks quite good in yellow!! Who'd have thunk it!

message 9: by Jax (new)

Jax | 831 comments LMAO!!
I cannot believe you did that!!

But yeah - okay - he doesn't look bad in yellow! LOL

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments Lmao

He could be a good Radu, though.

message 11: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I really should do some actual work when I'm at work, but hey it's far more fun making a yellow Radu LOL!

I'm slightly amazed that he doesn't look repugnant in that colour, though I don't know how I'd feel about walking down the street next to someone dressed like that?!

message 12: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments So has no-one else got any thoughts about Radu? Even if you don't have a pic, describe how you see him? Does he look like Mircea or not as attractive? Is he dark and tall? Fat or thin? Does he have dimples or a double chin? :D

What do you think?

Also, if Radu were straight (assuming you're female) would you date him?

message 13: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments I am the kind of person that as long as I don't have a negative view of him, I will give him a chance. So yeah I would date Radu to see if attraction happened. I would even date Ray :P

message 14: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I think Radu is one of those unintentionally hilarious people. It's hard to see him as a potential partner though, but I would definitely hang out with him. In fact, he could be my number one drinking buddy! We'd be The Bumble Bees, cos he'd be in yellow and I'd be in black! :D

I think Ray's a sweetheart. He doesn't always come across too well, cos he acts a bit of a buffoon sometimes, but he's smarter than he first appears and he seems loyal and brave, and those are very good qualities. In between moans and curses, he was very supportive of Dory in Fury's Kiss and that wins major brownie points!

Now, since I'm yacking, here's something that's stupid but for some reason stuck in my mind. In Midnight's Daughter, Radu says to Dory...
“Have you ever heard of a vampire chef?”
“Well, no, but—”
“Nor will you. Death, you know,” he said archly, as a mirror shattered somewhere above. “Ruins the taste buds.
Yet, we learn in Fury's Kiss that LC's chef, Verrell, is vampire. What's that all about then??

There's something odd about Verrell, despite his skill with an omelette. Why would Marlowe know LC's chef? I'm presuming Verrell came over from France to be with LC since he knew all about Christine, so how would Marlowe know him??

I smell a new crackpot theory brewing somewhere ... !

message 15: by Kathy (new)

Kathy Davie (kathydavie) | 457 comments Marlowe knows everything...bwah-ha-ha...

I suspect vampires, the nice ones, have chefs for their walking food banks

message 16: by Jax (new)

Jax | 831 comments Wait! I don't remember the chef being a vamp??
Darn it all!! I missed summin'!

*runs off to re-read and check on that!! *

message 17: by Jax (new)

Jax | 831 comments huh! How did I completely miss that!!

Okay - it was possibly his cute little indignant french accent that distracted me! LOL
Or possibly the mention of an omelet... YUM!

message 18: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I think it was Verrell's comments about Dory's processed cheese that distracted me LMAO!

I had to reread just to double-check that he was a vamp too. I'd thought he was, then I started to doubt myself and had to check, but yeah, he definitely is. It's just an odd little discrepancy which naturally I'm trying to create a giant conspiracy out of!!

I still think it odd that Marlowe knew who Verrell was on sight. Now I could understand Marlowe having files on every single vampire in the world that he could find. I think this is quite likely actually. But having that information, and memorising it all is quite another thing. KC says senators are like rockstars and it just seems odd that Marlowe would know the chef (who must be a fairly low level vamp) of a guy on a different senate.

I'm deeply suspicious! I think Verrell is one of Marlowe's and he's a plant to report on LC's sex life. I have spoken!!
:D

message 19: by Jax (new)

Jax | 831 comments LMAO....

OR... Marlowe, Mircea, Radu and LC had a boys night at LC's place... ;D

message 20: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Oh! I like that!!! *imagination goes into overload*
:D

message 21: by Kathy (new)

Kathy Davie (kathydavie) | 457 comments Besides how could anyone not notice a great chef? Vamp or no??

message 22: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Maybe Marlowe's secretly one of those 'hide in the kitchen at parties' kind of guys.

message 23: by Anna (last edited Feb 03, 2013 12:50PM) (new)

Anna | 1680 comments Radu - I wouldn't date but would like to hang out with - I think of him as an eccentric and mad uncle rather than dating material. He'd be fun - Do you fancy organising a night out Lannister?

Ray - really growing on me - not the obvious guy to date but...

The chef - I might be getting Mircea and LC mixed up here - who has the old half blind French valet? I thought it was Mircea, and that he had a soft spot for his ex human servants (not in a Laurell Hamilton way I hasten to add).
I bet having a French chef would be something you would 'collect'. After all they have Raphael and Jack the Ripper in the court so why not a chef!

message 24: by Lannister (last edited Feb 03, 2013 01:57PM) (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I think a night out with Radu would be hilarious! And he could even wear his D'Artagnan outfit if he wanted. :D I like a guy that owns his own winery. I think we'd get along well.

Anna, I think you're thinking of Mircea's old tutor Horatiu. The guy I'm talking about, Verrell, only appeared for the first time in Fury's Kiss. He's helping out with the cooking at Dory's house for a bit, then later he tells Dory that LC is only into her because he wants to 'save' her since he couldn't save Christine. That guy!

He's a chef and a vampire, despite Radu saying vampire chefs are no good. Maybe Radu is one of those food snobs? I could believe that actually. Though I prefer my 'Verrell is a spy' theory! :D

message 25: by Ashlea (new)

Ashlea | 22 comments Oooh for some reason Jax's pic isn't showing up but I love Lannister's pic. I think Radu's the kind of person you date for a little while and have a fabulous time with. I don't see him being the serious and long term relationship type of guy. Whilst the Verrel theory is interesting and would actually be incredibly entertaining to read about when it came out (I can just imagine Dory's face when she finds out the chef has been telling Marlowe about her sex life lol), I think Verrel is there because 1) him and LC have known each other for a long time 2) LC seems to like to "play human" or at least is more human than some vampires. Hence the chef and "honey let's talk decorating the house" sort of thing.

message 26: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments LOL, it was pretty funny when LC asked Dory what her favourite colour was and she said it was black. LC doesn't strike me as the kind of person who'd enjoy living in a gothic monstrosity!

message 27: by Kathy (new)

Kathy Davie (kathydavie) | 457 comments It will be interesting to see how LC's place gets decorated.

message 28: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I think he should invite Radu round to help with the decorating. That would be worth seeing! :)

message 29: by Anna (last edited Feb 05, 2013 11:54AM) (new)

Anna | 1680 comments That would be hilarious as long as Radu kept away from the basement and his little creepy experiments.
Thanks for the reminder Lannister

message 30: by Ela (new)

Ela | 227 comments I'm imagining monochrome designs, thats the only way I can imagine LC's designer including black with out turning it into a gothic mansion.

(btw Lannister I'm now imagining Marlowe dancing to 'always hiding in the kitchen...', complete with back up singers LMAO :D)

message 31: by Kathy (new)

Kathy Davie (kathydavie) | 457 comments Oh, no, I'm seeing a chorus line with Radu and Marlowe in yellow satin...aiyeee

message 32: by Ela (last edited Mar 16, 2013 04:54PM) (new)

Ela | 227 comments Haha, my back up singers didn't have any faces, thankyou for enriching my fantasy XD

message 33: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Kathy wrote: "Oh, no, I'm seeing a chorus line with Radu and Marlowe in yellow satin...aiyeee"

LMAO!!

Radu's kinda like Elton John from the 70s when he wore crazy outfits (though much better looking!)

OMG, I just googled and found this image LMAO!!

I didn't doctor the colour in this one. Elton John actually wore that!!

Radu, is that you? :D

message 34: by Kathy (new)

Kathy Davie (kathydavie) | 457 comments I think I'd'a preferred black patent loafers instead of the tennies...

message 35: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Yeah, he's got no class at all.

message 36: by Gypsi Babii (new)

Gypsi Babii (gypsibabii) | 114 comments all you can say is WOwWW !! with your mouth completely open to that picture..

Hey you know I am loving right now is the Triple D"s...

message 37: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments The D's are awesome. I hope they pop up again in a future book, because they were so much fun. Maybe Cassie could take them into hell and they could distract Rosier while she grabs Pritkin!! :D

message 38: by Gypsi Babii (new)

Gypsi Babii (gypsibabii) | 114 comments For real..,, but it would be so fun if Rosier takes to Devine ( aka Decreped) before the others.. Rosier is old in is own right. Ok I forgot one of the names.. There is Desire, Devine, and what was the other one..

I am so inching to see how that comes out.. But I am so team Pritkin..( my greatest lover)

message 39: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I looked it up. There's Dee Sire (the one who wants Cassie's shoes), Dee Vine (referred to as Dee Crepit behind her back) and the third one is Dee Licious. Yum! :D

Maybe Rosier has a secret fetish for drag queens. Hey, you never know!

message 40: by Gypsi Babii (new)

Gypsi Babii (gypsibabii) | 114 comments True True... I have a feeling that Rosier is not very choosey about gender..

message 41: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments LOL, he's a 'try anything once' kind of guy!

message 42: by Gypsi Babii (new)

Gypsi Babii (gypsibabii) | 114 comments I believe so...

message 43: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments Rosier probably doesn't care who it is if he's hungry!

message 44: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Claire wrote: "Rosier probably doesn't care who it is if he's hungry!"

I doubt any of them do. Except for maybe Pritkin since he's half human male.

I dont think he cares even if he is not hungry...

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments ...fair enough

message 47: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments As part of the Touch the Dark reread, something popped into my head.

Does anyone remember how we were speculating before about Gillian, Marlowe's witch from Elizabethan times, and how she might still be alive? KC said that Gillian's story was 'unusual' and hinted we might see her again (possibly in the 3rd short story, if KC ever gets time to write it?)

Magic users live longer than normal, but Gillian was an adult by 1600 (give or take a few years either way), so in the normal course of events she should be long dead.

But then I thought of Francoise in Touch the Dark. The scenes in Carcassonne take place (we believe) in 1661, but because she'd been in Faerie, Francoise is still alive and not especially aged, as far as I can tell. Granted Francoise's story is about 60 years later than Gillian's, but if you've already survived four centuries without gaining many wrinkles, another 60 years doesn't seem all that much.

So, based on this, if Gillian somehow found a way into Faerie, she could definitely still be alive, I think. Maybe we'll see a grand reunion with her and Marlowe after all! (This assumes the Black Circle didn't get hold of her and drain her magic, of course.)

message 48: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Maybe Gillian was kidnapped along with Francoise?

message 49: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments Oooooh drama!

that would be so funny if Gillian popped up in modern times. Marlowe would have a conniption. Then Mircea could comfort him while they both lamented the troublesome women in their lives.

message 50: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments "comfort him"
