One of my favorite all-time series is the River of Time by Lisa Bergren. I think a lot of you have already read these, but if you haven’t do it. Now. The first book, Waterfall, is one that I recommend all the time when people are asking for something good to read. So far, no one has been disappointed. I’m not necessarily a huge fan of time travel books, although I do like historical fiction so I don’t know why. Even though the “how” isn’t necessarily explained in this series, I still find the whole thing believable.

The first trilogy focuses on Gabi; I liked how she is a modern girl thrown into the middle ages. I liked that her talents are worked into the story and become her strengths. I like that she is tough, but it’s explained. For example, her dad taught her some fencing growing up, so it’s believable when she is thrown into this medieval setting she knows how to use a sword. While I still think she would be physically weaker than the professional men she is fighting, it still seems plausible to me.

During the trilogy a love-triangle (LT) slowly creeps in. This is one case where I actually think the love-triangle is well done. Not only is the situation believable, but Gabi still remains likable, which is one of my biggest problems with LT’s, I usually end up hating the girl. I also like that it didn't become the main plot and take over the story. It played a nice role and wasn't drug out. It was perfect, IMO. The romance in the series is awesome. Our hero, Marcello, is perfect. He is definitely a favorite of mine and he is perfect for Gabi. There is also a side story with Luca and Lia that I love.

I’m sort of rambling. I guess my point is that I just love this series and just thinking about it makes me want to read it again (Maybe we should have it as a book choice one of these months…). This is one where I wish they would make a movie, I think it’d be awesome (if they got the casting right!).

Reading Order:
Waterfall
Cascade
Torrent

Novellas:
Bourne
Tributary

I could be wrong, but I think another trilogy is in the works. I sure hope so!

Teryn | 120 comments Loved the first one! Started the second, but I'm having a hard time getting into it. Do I just need to give it more time?

A-MAZING!! Love this series.

I however think that this series should be done. Only so we don't ruin it.

Teryn- yeah, I would give it a little more time. How far have you gotten? I think the first time I read book two it took me awhile to get into it as well. It gets really good though! :)

Teryn | 120 comments I got about 25% through it. It was just kind of gruesome and slow. It may have been my mood. I find that my mood really does effect if I enjoy a book, or not so much. :) Thank you Kahty, I will have to try it again.

Reading this series right now and I'm loving it!! I'm about 17% into the 2nd book and already I'm very suspicious! I refuse to give into the urge of reading ahead to see if my suspicions are correct and let me tell you... it's killing me!! I have a feeling nothing is going to get done over my 4 day weekend! ;o) Hehe.

Valerie Waters | 68 comments Kathy JO, How old is your niece? I LOVED this series!! I want to let my daughter read it, she is 10 but since when I read it I wasn't thinking about sharing with her I can't remember if it would be ok. What do you all think? She read Harry Potter 2 summers ago and loved those.

My niece is 15. I have never read Harry Potter so I can't compare the two. There are battle scenes throughout the entire series and at times can get a bit gory. There is some romance but doesn't go beyond kissing. In one of the novellas there is talk of rape but it doesn't happen. There is lots and lots of adventure! Reading this series took me on an emotional roller coaster but I loved it! I would say suggesting a 10 year old to read this series would all depend on their maturity level. There are some that I would say yes go for it but others, not so much. It's really hard for me to say yes or no because I'm just an auntie and get to leave the final decisions up to the parents! ;o) Hehe.
