What are you reading?
I just finished my 10th book this month, titled
Dream Chaser (Dream-Hunter, #3; Dark-Hunter, #14) by Sherrilyn Kenyon. My next book is
Acheron (Dark-Hunter, #15) by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona AndrewsFelt like reading it again ... it is funny what sticks out for you when you re-read a book. The description of Nataraja for example, I never really paid too much attention to what was said on how he looked. When I thought about it, I always pictured the sultan from Aladdin for some reason....
Ooooh I wanna reread those books, but I won't get to them till summer... The next few months are busy for reading LOL
@Claire - i don't like the first book. But overall did the girl not get her own back in the end of it? She was weak throughout the book and the other female leads are not. They're majorly good at kicking ass so if anyone ever told them anything like what the first one was told, the results would not be good. At all. Give at least one more book a try. The series does get better.
The 2nd book has Laclan and Emmaline right? Now there is a heroine that goes from a mouse to a kick ass....Magic Burns (Kate Daniels, #2) by Ilona Andrews
Next is one of my favorite KD books, Magic Strikes....
Unfortunatly I have way too much time on my hands. :(
Reading Magic Strikes is not too much time on your hand :) It's as useful as eating, breathing.... ;)
Magic Strikes (Kate Daniels, #3) by Ilona Andrews I love this book....
What I meant as for having too much time was I have too much time in general. :( I even had a doctor's appointment ( 1 hour for my mom to drive from downtown SA to our house, 30 mins to get to the doctor's office, 45 mins - 1 hour for the actual appointment, and then driving home), I still read Magic Strikes in a few hours....
I think if I could I would turn up the speed on my reader and would read/listen even faster. As it is I have it as fast as it can go. :/
btw, setting an appointment for something and having to wait for 2 weeks to go and the reason you are going clears up the night before ... is ... a ... pain ... in ... the ... ass.
thnx wasted time
Magic Bleeds (Kate Daniels, #4) by Ilona AndrewsI especially love the last part of this book ... it has some ass kickery with an added bit of omg squeeness to it. nomnom
Was thinking about reading Cal Leandros series, but my library is missing books in the series and I get twitchy about that sort of thing. I put off reading the Jaz Parks series for months beyond 1 and 2 because I was missing 3 and 4 but had every other book/story in the series.
Nightlife
Moonshine
Madhouse
missing--Deathwish
Roadkill
missing--Blackout
Doubletake
I am getting twitchy thinking about it ... should I even bother with the first 3 books in the series?
Or just keep up with my re-reading of series ... march is a good month for new rleases for some series I keep track of.
Wish I had a million dollars sometimes....
I just finished my 11th book this month, titled
Acheron (Dark-Hunter, #15) by Sherrilyn Kenyon . My next book is
Primal Law (Alpha Pack #1) by J.D. Tyler

Does your library not have it, or does the whole system not have it? Depending on where you live, libraries can give books out to other neighboring libraries. I would ask the librarians if any of the other libraries carry it and if they could transfer the books. :)
Magic Slays (Kate Daniels, #5) by Ilona AndrewsI almost forgot how awesome Curran and Kate were….
@ Zeenat:
The libraries I get my books from are for the visually impaired/blind. There is bookshare.org which is now free I guess and the NLS which is an offshoot of the library of congress and is totally audio/talking books and have a limited selection. They have their own readers and sometimes publishers donate commercial audio books to convert them. Both are online libraries so I don’t have to go anywhere.
The way BS adds books is dumb sometimes I think … they get their books mainly from donations and volunteers scan them in and then they are converted to daisy format (which can be totally text or audio books too—they both can let a person navigate them via headings and other stuff). It is alphabetical from what I can tell from haunting the wishlist/being scanned list and sometimes makes no sense. One book has been on the books being scanned list for several months, one book I had sent in for the wishlist never went to the being scanned list and went straight through to being available. So who knows, I just keep a list and check it every once in a while and re-submit my wishlist items after a few months if they don’t show up eventually. The two books I had been wanting to read in the Jaz Parks series took several months and I submitted them twice. When they went up book 4 went up first then 3—4’s title was ahead of 3’s alphabetically for instance.
I really have not checked local libraries to see if they offer books in a format that I can read.
1. I would want to check out a ton of books like I used to do.
2. I hate having to rely on anyone for transportation so I would be hesitant to look and see if I could.
If I don’t check I wont wonder--stupid I know.
I just looked @ the books being scanned list and saw:Blackout Rob Thurman
Hi, where is Deathwish?
Some of the books have been on the list for as long as I can remember.
Like:
Bichon Frise Cunliffe Juliette
I list that one because till I stopped to key over and see how it was spelled I thought it had said “bitchin’ fries” for the longest time—silly screen reader.
They had the first few books of Aly Berkstrom for forever it seems so I did not start them—I just noticed the rest were on the books being scanned list.
I talk too much.
Well boo for them for not having a complete library! I'm about to start
. The plot is really good, and the characters are enjoyable, but I really hate the author's writing style. And the books don't get really good until the last third. Sooooo I wouldn't say you are missing much. I'll read the next two books, but if they get a 3 or below I may stop reading them...

Anywho.. don't go into it with any expectations Jax. Its a good book... but very realistic in a way.
@ Arushi... LOL - I won't.My hubby has been nagging me to finish the series for months now! But because of the (I'll be generous) 4 years between Brisingr and Inheritance, I've been umming & Aahing over possibly re-reading from Eragon.
Still considering it as a possibility... But first I'll see how I feel about Inheritance before re-starting the entire series! :)
For god's sake you'll never get done if you re-read. *waves arms frantically* Have you seen the size of those damned books? I own three of them in Hardback! They're like consecutively larger bricks. Plus inheritance has a slow buildup. so You'll get most of the bg info you need in it. Was it only four years tho? Felt longer. Hummm.
LOL - I know what you mean! But Technically Brisingr was released in 2008 and Inheritance was at the end of 2011, beginning 2012... sooooo you could even claim only 3.5 years! Also - Yes... I LOVE my tomes!! But they do get kinda heavy! LOL (added benefit of eReaders!!)
Barring my Urban Fantasy books (which apparently have a limited page count set by those nasty publishers) most of my authors write fabulously LARGE novels! ;D
Magic Gifts (Kate Daniels, #5.4) by Ilona AndrewsCurran and Kate are so funny together.
Gunmetal Magic (Kate Daniels World, #1) by Ilona Andrews
Now to wait till Magic Rises—which will be entirely too long to wait.
I so want to hear more about Roman of the eeyore pjs, barabas, and ascanio.
Especially roman….
Done with
which was majorly improved from the previous book. I'm a bit ashamed to say that I loved
and
. I know the style is rigid and there is not much character development in it but it's so Beauty & the Beast/Romeo & Juliet style that I can't help myself.
Llaph, there are a few novella that deal with the secondary characters. Have you read them? Can't recall them at the moment but
Roman: Dark and Stormy Knights (0.5 A Questionable Client)
Barabas, and Ascanio appear a lot more in her spin-off series.
Thanks for the reminders. I know of them, but have only been able to read a couple. I knew what story was in Dark and Stormy Nights, I just did not think Roman was one of the Slavic priests (not even attempting that sp) in it. I did not get to read the story in Must Love Hellhounds till recently and when I re-read the series and could add it to the line somethings made more sense.I have read the summaries for the short stories and pet my OCD into submission by telling it that it will be okay and they are not a main part of the story and nothing bad will happen if I do not read them.
Does not keep me from wanting to read them though … I will hopefully find a shiny to take my mind off of them till I can get a hold of them.
I did not look it up, but is IA going to make a book of all of the short stories like SK did for her DH series? I totally forgot about that and it came out last year.
See, Shinies?
I just finished my 12th book this month, titled
Primal Law (Alpha Pack #1) by J.D. Tyler . My next book is
Savage Awakening (Alpha Pack, #2) by J.D. Tyler
Damnit it life, getting in the middle of my reading.I have so much to read in the next 5-6 weeks... well hopefully I'll be able to catch up to reading challenge :P
Finished Surprisingly Supernatural by J.S.DrumNow starting Better Off Dead IN Deadwood. by Ann Charles
This is the 4th book in the Deadwood series. Fast read,
romance, mystery, supernatural, and zany characters.
I love this series.
Nightlife (Cal Leandros, #1) by Rob ThurmanIt was different. The use of the names ‘grendel’ and ‘catcher’ threw me off though!
I just finished my 13th book this month, titled
Savage Awakening (Alpha Pack, #2) by J.D. Tyler. My next book is
Black Moon (Alpha Pack, #3) by J.D. Tyler
@Mello - Hummm Jesse James Dawson seems interesting. Will you be continuing the Weather Warden and Riley Jenson series? They're both quite good - and I think the one thing I really like about them is that they're finished ;)
Llaph wrote: "Nightlife (Cal Leandros, #1) by Rob ThurmanIt was different. The use of the names ‘grendel’ and ‘catcher’ threw me off though!"
Yep, those books are completely different in stuff like that. It makes things interesting. Wait till you get to the were's?
Magic to the Bone (Allie Beckstrom, #1) by Devon MonkI cannot remember why I stopped reading this series past book 1. I think it was because my library only had up to book 3 and just recently 4 and 5 were added and the rest are listed on the books being scanned list so that my library should have them available sometime this year….
To talk about different I read Beat the Reaper (Peter Brown #1) by Josh Bazell. It is not pnr or uf, I thinki it is under suspense thriller or something. I think I found someone more cynical and pessimistic than me. He drops the f-bomb a lot, but I really liked this book for some reason. No matter how gritty and f’d up it was.
I am not sure what I will read next.
Magic In the Blood (Allie Beckstrom, #2) by Devon MonkThese books read really fast … extra points for mentioning Deadpool imo. I loved that comic book when I still collected them.
Arushi wrote: "@Mello - Hummm Jesse James Dawson seems interesting. Will you be continuing the Weather Warden and Riley Jenson series? Plus, there's no romance mucking up the plot as the main character has already been married for years. You get to see him with his wife, but it's not serious romance stuff.
I'll definitely be continuing Weather Warden and Riley Jensen. I already bought the second Riley Jensen book and books 2-4 of Weather Warden.

The local public libraries have audio books and in my area at least they have online holds and checkouts and downloadable audio books through Overdrive. The selection of audio and downloadable isn't as big as the other books but you can always check. They also let you suggest 2 purchases a week and mine usually get bought though I usually request paper books.

Teeny tiny page count limitsMagic in the Shadows (Allie Beckstrom, #3) by Devon Monk
@ sarah:
I haven’t checked into the libraries around me … since I am in the f’ing boonies. I also did not think about looking so will search. My problem is that sometimes I think it is just going to be no so why bother some of the time. :p
Thanks for the suggestion!
@ mello & arushi:
I liked the Riley Jensen series … not the weatherwarden though. Just some things don’t work … Jo as a person drives me nuts. I can’t relate to any of the things she says she likes and thinks some of her decisions are mass stupid and david is just an enabler…. I may be over exaggerating, but I am pretty sure there is a near death or big uber thing that has to be fixed or else in each book. (after 3 or 4 books I just said pffffft )I love her Morganville series though … go fig.
I just finished my 14th book this month, titled
Black Moon (Alpha Pack, #3) by J.D. Tyler. My next book is
The Reformed Vampire Support Group by Catherine Jinks
Magic on the Storm (Allie Beckstrom, #4) by Devon MonkI know that there is a total of 9 for the series and only have 1-5 for now. I don’t know if I will finish what book I have left (5) though … just something is rubbing me the wrong way.
I've yet to start the Allie Beckstrom series, despite it being highly recommended (and me buying the first book at least a year ago!) I'll get to it one of these days! :)
Same here, I've had the Allie Beckstrom series on my TBR pile for some time. Damn, too many shiny covers!Done with Spell of the Highlander and the Highlander series. The Fever series is already done but I'm not sure I want to jump into Iced right now. I seem to remember someone on GR counting the number of swear words in the book and the amount was alarming.
I don't really recall swear words in that book, but I sometimes phase stuff out when I read if I don't want to hear it. I tend to pay attention if it is the f word though. I don't think 'feck' is technically a swear word in the US though and that is the word I remember hearing a lot.If you don't want to read a book with a ton of swear words don't touch Beat the Reper I think he used the f word in many tenses and modifiers in that book.
Swearing does not really bother me, guess I am good at ignoring stuff I don't want to hear.
Random funny fact about me:
I sensor myself while I am thinking. I would think "this is f***'n stupid' then say, in my head mind you, 'I mean this is freak'n stupid'
This works for damn, darn; god, gosh; and shit, crap.
I also sometimes say 'excuse me' when I burp ... when I am alone and no one is near-by.
Arushi wrote: "Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin wrote: "Arushi wrote: "@Mello - Hummm Jesse James Dawson seems interesting. Will you be continuing the Weather Warden and Riley Jenson series? I've finished
and
. Really, really loved Seduction and Snacks (hilarious) and Hopeless (absolutely wonderful). TTB wasn't as consuming for me as I wanted it to be, but I did like it.Reading
As for the Allie books, I don't think I would have read the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th books if I did not already have them. I still haven't decided if I will read the 5th book. The characters are meh to me, some are interesting and seem to grow as the series goes along and others don't go anywhere and seem to be just 2-D and are place holders or something. The books endings are annoying to me ... I have caught myself getting to the last bit and expecting another chapter ... nope end of the book read the next one! H8 cliffhangers …I guess that there are politic-like thingees in them, trying to figure out who is on what side and what they are going to do. It seems sometimes predictable and wtf worthy to me though. I can’t explain it, I just am not impressed by them.
I would love to reread a lot of books but I have so many books I can't name them all and I'm always getting more. If only the time would stop but for me for like 10 years then just maybe I could catch up.......
Llaph wrote: "I also sometimes say 'excuse me' when I burp ... when I am alone and no one is near-by. ."LOL, I do that too! I think it's been ingrained in me by my mother and I can't not do it.
I frequently mutter to myself, like if I make a mistake when typing or something like that, I'm always calling myself an idiot.
Dale, I know what you mean about no time for rereads. There are mainly two types of books for me: ones that are just fun reads but kinda forgettable (which is most of them), then there are fab books that you love and become instant classics to you. I will reread the second kind. Once in a while I take a notion to reread one of the first kind, but it's not usual. And I don't mean to downplay the first kind of books. They could be very enjoyable reads, but they just don't quite hit the spot and have that elusive 'something' that makes you want to read them again.
I have a friend who says she would never reread books. It's not from a lack of time. She says that she knows what happens, so what's the point? This is utterly bizarre to me! Same friend will happily rewatch a movie. Dammit, people need to be consistent!! :D
Lannister wrote: "Dammit, people need to be consistent!! :D "Hahaha
I like re-reading, especially after I have just read all the books available in a series and there is nothing more there... until the next ones comes out. I end up reading my favorite parts so many times...
I usually find it really hard to re-watch movies unless I absolutely loved them. Same thing with TV shows.
But lately I have barely had anytime to even read!!! I really want to re-read Kate Daniels :(
