A group of former Navy SEALS, the Alpha Pack is a top-secret team of wolf shifters with Psy powers combating the greatest dangers in the world. But sometime those dangers are more intimate than they bargained for…
After a mission goes wrong, Aric Savage is taken prisoner. Half-dead and despairing, he makes a stunning discovery: his Pack mate Micah Chase, who was reported dead, is a fellow captive. When the Alpha team goes into full-rescue mode, accompanying them is an absolute stunner with sable hair—and a spine of solid steel.
LAPD officer and Psy Dreamwalker Rowan Chase has one priority: her brother Micah’s recovery. Still, she can’t help but be drawn to Aric, the ruggedly handsome wolf shifter who pleasures her as no man ever has—however fleeting their affair is destined to be. But when Aric’s life is endangered, Rowan must ask herself what she’s willing to sacrifice in the name of love, for the man fated to be her Bondmate.

Tyler is best known for her dark, sexy paranormal series Alpha Pack, and the Firefighters of Station Five and Sugarland Blue series as National Bestselling Author Jo Davis. PRIMAL LAW, the first book in her Alpha Pack series, is the winner of the National Readers' Choice Award in Paranormal. I love Savage aka Aric! Now normally I would be like dude really, really you’re going to be all macho man and not give all the facts. Butttttt, on the other hand, I respect his choice.
Ok so lets’ backtrack a little Aric was taken and experimented on, and that was freaking HORRIBLE! But him being taken lead them to Micah and not to get all woo-woo or anything but if he hadn’t been the one they wouldn’t have found Micah as they did or have his sister come to the compound.
So all things happen as they are supposed to, Rowan is freaking bad a – s – s and I freaking loved that about her! She really doesn’t care what people think of her she is there to help save her bro no matter what, and her job means a lot. She isn’t willing to compromise who she is for anyone. But she totally would for a wolf if he would just speak his dang mind!
I really enjoyed this dynamic that he wants to protect her and didn’t want to put pressure on her but here come my DUDE speech … really, really???? No macho man stuff it doesn’t do anyone any good. ;)
Really am digging this narrator she can do male voices pretty well. I love how you can feel her words that’s a gift.
*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*
It was giving more story...then ya had to tell dude. Not only was your face introduced to a cheese grader. But your body was done wrong. He didn't know. Just that he hot captured, and the rest of his team is MIA. Why would you do that. He.was.in.a.coma. like you couldn't just let his brain figure it out over time with a mental professional.
Not bad for shifters/romance/PNR fans, but I need more kick in my books. More back story, more depth, twists and turns, layers, character development, original conflict, you know, the hard stuff. The core idea of this series is awesome (I mean, hello! black ops badass shifters, secret compound, kickass powers, supernatural evil creatures, gun blazing missions etc). Still, I couldn't help but feel like something was missing. An enjoyable read, but I needed more to keep me invested and glued to the pages.
The second part of the book was disappointing. The hero was too melodramatic for my liking, too focused on self pity and guilt, instead of being an alpha male and using his uber cool powers. And I couldn't quite feel the romantic connection either. Rowen at least was a badass female, they reminded me a bit of Indigo and Drew from the Psy Changeling series, but at a milder level. You know what I mean? Oh and not to mention that their story and drama was too similar to the first couple. The ending was predictable, cliche and happened too fast. I just wanted to strangle both hero and heroine for their choices and idiocy! Not a fan of how the mating happens in this series either... *sigh* Hopefully it will get better when other supernaturals come to play.
Maybe I will continue on with the series (as always, I am intrigued by characters we only glimpse in the background, but I'm afraid their story won't live up to the expectations). Or maybe I won't...
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite shifter series! Packed full of alpha males that are funny and arrogant and so full of themselves it's endearing. The men in this series can make any girl melt, and of course Aric is not the exception. If you like your heroes with a full head of beautiful long red hair, a lot of attitude, a good dose of humor, and magical talents, then Aric is the shifter for you! And when I say magical talents that goes for his gift as well as other things ;)
Rowan is Micah's sister. She's an LAPD cop and was told her brother was dead, so when she gets a tip that he's missing and is given an address to go investigate, she finds herself in the Alpha Pack compound. Nick tells her the truth of course, of what they are, what Micah is and what's happened to him.
They are of course looking for Aric and Micah is believed to be with him. The rescue happens pretty early on and without a glitch. But Aric and Micah are not in the best of shapes. Micah especially since he was experimented on for a long time. While Rowan is waiting for her brother to wake up from a coma like state, she ends up forming a bond with Aric. She just happens to have the same gift as Micah and can dreamwalk. Thinking it was only a dream she has one hot night in Vegas with Aric on top of a pull table. *fans self* and then reality comes crashing down when she realizes that Aric lived through that same dream.
I think their connection was instant, and much like Kira and Jax, they just belong together. Yes, love at first sight and all that. Or mating at first sight. Rowan is the one girl that can make Aric open up. He has so much bottled up inside.
A few words about Aric and Rowan: HOT, EXPLOSIVE, HOT, POSSESSIVE, HOT, ALMOST ANIMALISTIC, HOT, ALL INSTINCTS. Just yum. What? you haven't read this series yet? What are you waiting for?!?!?!
Now for the side characters, Kalen... OMG I just cannot wait for his book next, wow, the developments on this one. And let me reiterate Hammer is MINE. I love him. He's adorable!!!!
Some of my favorite quotes:
"Well, fuck me sideways," she blurted. Golden eyes sparkled with humor. "An interesting idea. May I at least have your name first?"
"Where is that motherfucker? I'll tear his asshole out through his throat and feast on his carcass!"
"Are you calling me a pussy?" "If the vagina fits."
3 3/4 stars “Savage Awakening” by J.D. Tyler is the second of her ‘Alpha Pack’ series and centers around Pack member Aric Savage and Rowan Chase, sister to fellow SEAL and Pack mate Micah. Aric’s imprisonment and torture has made it difficult for him to use his powers of telekinesis and fire and he is unable to achieve freedom for himself and the others he discovers being experimented on, including Micah. L.A.P.D. police officer Rowan Chase has always had a mysterious tie to her brother and refuses to believe that he is dead, despite what she and her family have been told. She is startled to discover that there is a world of Shifters and sorcerers coexisting with humans and even more incredulous when she learns that she has ties to that world and not just because of her brother’s involvement in the Pack. Her searing attraction for Aric is wholeheartedly returned but neither of them is willing to commit to the other nor admit their true feelings so something is going to have to be readjusted in their respective lives. The problem is that Aric’s concealment of his feelings may have more serious repercussions than he is willing to admit and neither he nor Micah may be able to escape the effects of their captivity and torture.
Hmm... Well I went right to this from the last as I had the first two books on my shelf and figured I might as well see if this one was any better. Well a bit but not much. The characters might be slightly more fleshed out so slightly less flat but certainly not rounded. The plot, very formulaic and followed the first book almost to a T both in the romance and the action.
You get a little more of who the bad guy is and we get two chapters on Kalen and his story which should be in the next book, not in this one. This is the cliffhanger for the next book so that you will be hooked, I'm not. Pretty much you can skip the last chapter as it just has that and the last sex scene. I was expecting it. So I always take one star for these type of endings, so it could have been a 4 star but no. The flat formulaic plot brings it to 3 and then the romance of she's my mate but I'm going to deny it, then accept it, but hey not tell her, then deny it to her, then suffer for it and almost die, back and forth, which pretty much sums up the first book too. And that brings it to a whopping 2 stars.
The only good is it is mildly entertaining. Still it felt like immature writing. Might have been better as a shorter erotica, though today even the erotica I read feels more rounded. I actually felt disconnected to the main characters in the end as they didn't grow from the mate bond. Oh well, my books go to the used book store. I doubt I'll ever read another of J.D. Tyler. I gave her a second chance.
I had hoped this would be a hot, romantic, paranormal read.
I got about one and a half out of these three.
So... The scenes between Rowan and Aric were hot, no doubt about that. But the romance was no where to be found. I really didn't get why they fell for each other and even the mate trope wasn't convincing enough in this case. It just felt like two people seriously in lust, but not in love to me.
Then there was the paranormal part of the story. Aric is a shifter and there's also some other shifters and a fairy. so far so good. Then there's Rowan, who's promoted as a Psy Dreamwalker on the back cover of the book. I was really intrigued by that and was wondering how her powers would be used.
Yeah....
Apart from Rowan and Aric having some hot dream sex Rowan's Dreamwalker powers are left totally unused!
The story around the romance/hot sex wasn't very intriguing in my opinion and I did contemplate putting the book down about halfway through. I didn't because I was curious to find out what would happen to one of the side characters and guess what: That storyline was left open to be continued in the next book.
All in all I am not impressed by this book and won't be reading other books in this series.
Good second entry into the latest Alpha Pack series.Frankly,I do not remember the 1st book very much, but I do remember thinking that this was much better than the prior entry. This book has Aric ,the H being held captive along with the h's brother Micah.H/h meet when the h ,along with the rest of the Alpha Pack rescues them.Rowan, the h,is a totally kickass cop from the East LA.There is an instant attraction between the two and the "mating"instinct begins, though Aric begins to fight it.He does not feel worthy of Rowan because he felt he let his team dowm with the last mission and feels also responsible for the tortures that Rowan's brother went through while captive ,her brother was brutally tortured and sexually abused several times.Great action scenes with the rescue and further attacks by the enemy.Smoking hot love scenes .New story line developing with "Mac" and Kalen, who had a brief hookup in the novella ,BLACK MAGIC, their story is next in "Black Moon".Looking forward to more adventures from the ALPHA PACK and especially wanting to read pack leader Nick Westphal's story.
Love triangle? Cheating? HEA? Any Descriptive Sex w/OW/OM/Ex? Would I read more by this author/or in this series? Maybe, but not for now. Rating: 4 stars
Review
I like this one much better than the first one. H is such a sweetie, the only thing I did not like about him is that he's feeling so unworthy of his mate and is because of that not willing to mate with her .
There is some action, romance, angst and one heck of a cop that in the end saves the day :)
Enjoyable and fast paced read. Somewhere just over halfway I felt like I lost connection with our couple, though. The first part of the book felt like we were going to get one story from the romance and then it took a left and we got something different.
The driving plot of fighting the baddies was solid though and I'm looking forward to the continuation of Mac and Kalen's story.

La meute Alpha, tomes 1 à 4 – J.D. Tyler
Une série entraînante, addictive. Ils sont « Bruts. Superbes.

Growing up in a rough neighbor has conditioned her to handle high pressure situations with calm and quick thinking. But no matter how touch and capable she is, she is still a caring person and the loss of her brother has affected her deeply. She knows he’s alive, she’d feel it if we weren’t and so she refuses to stop until she finds him.
Now she’s received a tip of a secret government military base where she might find some answers. Though what she finds is beyond shocking. After she breaks into the compound and shoots out a security camera, she’s confronted by shapeshifting naked men…and much to her disgust, she faints dead away.
Waking up she’s surrounded by ex-special ops who have been infected by the werewolves’ virus and now run high risk missions to protect the world from supernatural forced. Her brother is such a man but he and another soldier have been kidnapped and have missing for 6 months. Life may have taken a turn for the weird but she stands her ground and knows there’s no way she’s leaving until she knows her brother is safe. But her training and her intelligence are admired by the men her brother calls family and she is handy in a fight- even if she has to use fae magic to sneak on board during the rescue mission.
Storming the base where her brother and many other men have been imprisoned and tortured, she finds her brother at deaths door. And she finds the beautiful red head who captures her attention with his piercing eyes.
Back at the camp, the hero wakes up in a bed for the first time in 6 months. After months of torture and experimentation at the hands of his stepsister, the hero’s response to the pain and nightmares is to dismiss them. He’s not the type of man to let emotions out-at least emotions that leave him vulnerable. He rejects any attempts to remind him the seriousness of his situation and instead treats it all with sarcasm. He is stunned by the beauty he sees, the women who brought sunshine in the cage of his darkness. And he is making a quicker recovery than her brother who lies damaged emotionally and physically after receiving more emotional torture than the hero.
The heroine is tormented by the grief of watching her brother in pain but she’s able to cope with the help of the hero. The man is funny and a charmer and though he’s hardly serious and uses humor as a shield, he’s attractive and something deeper lies between them that just sex. The hero denies the notion of a mate and there’s no way he deserves a woman like her and it would be a sin to trap her in a forever bond to a man who feels extreme guilt for his role in the battle that happened in the previous book. But he is possessive of her, consumed by jealousy at the idea of another man capturing her attention and so despite his best intentions he can't see to stay away.
And now, with his health deteriorating because of the denied mate bond, it seems he'll have no chose but to accept the call of the bite because there's no way the heroine is letting him die.
Once again I was torn between the love of the characters and their relationship and the disappointment with the subpar plotline. Honestly there was no plotline or perhaps something about a demon? I don't know. And it takes a great amount of chemistry for me to ignore the lazy storytelling but I felt it between these characters. Maybe it wasn't perfect and maybe it was a little basic and horribly predictable but sue me, I liked it.
I liked the easy banter between the characters and the possessiveness of the hero and the strength of the heroine who was badass in every way. But unfortunately there were major flaws. I wanted the hero to be less dramatic and more tortured. He was more worried about if he deserved the heroine then exploring the fact that he was tortured for 6 months. It was like that was swept under the rug when I would have him open up more to the heroine about his trauma. It did seem like he evolved little as a character because by the end he was just as closed up emotionally as in the beginning.
The heroine was a great character. A cop with a level head and someone you could rely on in a fight even if she is outmatched by the supernatural beings they are battling. I loved how she loved her brother and did everything in her power to show him he wasn't alone.
Overall, I thought it was a vast improvement from the first book but this author still has a long way to go to play with the big boys like Gena & Kresley.
Our Review [by LITERAL ADDICTION’s Pack Alpha - Michelle L Olson]: I thoroughly enjoyed Primal Law and was incredibly excited for the release of Savage Awakening. The day it arrived on my Kindle I settled in for the ride… Save Awakening picks up where Primal Law left off, with Aric Savage kidnapped and held hostage by Orson Chappell and the NewLife mad scientists along with another missing team member, Micah Chase, who disappeared and was originally presumed dead six months earlier. Micah’s sister Rowan, an officer with the LAPD, continues to search for her brother believing in her heart that if he were dead, she’d know. When she gets a tip about a hidden facility in the Shoshone that may lead to news of her brother she heads out for answers. What she encounters is more than she ever bargained for, however. Thrown into a whole new world full of things she only thought were nightmares, but knowing that seeing is believing, Rowan joins the Alpha Pack to find and rescue not only her brother but their missing Pack brother, Aric. When a lead finally pans out and they rescue Aric and Micah, the true adventures begin… Aric is damaged in Savage Awakening. Not only physically, but mentally as well - torn between hating Jaxon for his part in his ultimate kidnapping and torture and his own actions prior to that which led to the Event and the traumatic experiences beforehand. The snarky red wolf that we came to know and love in Primal Law is back, though he’s continually finding himself hiding behind his snark as a coping mechanism, and when yet another twist is thrown into his mix in the form of a mate he never thought he’d meet, he almost takes the easy way out. Arik has a huge heart and high insecurities and they get him into major trouble. He makes poor decisions thinking that it’s the best for everyone, when in reality; it’s not good for anyone. Rowan is Aric’s perfect counterpart. She’s tough and witty like he is, but she also has a huge heart and puts everyone before herself; even when it puts her own hide in danger. Aric and Rowan’s story is somewhat predictable, following very closely the exact path that Jax took with Kira in Primal Law, but it’s still very enjoyable and the rest of the story in Savage Awakening is gripping. Kalen’s story unfolds further, as it’s revealed who the ‘Big Bad’ is that is after him. We learn more about the mysterious Hammer, a secret is revealed about A.J, and Nick is yet again tortured by his prescient visions and his inability to interfere with fate. Sariel plays a large part in Savage Awakening as well and while I already loved him in Primal Law, I adore him now and cannot wait to find out more about him and have him get more and more involved with the Alpha Pack and their mates. LITERAL ADDICTION gives this book 4 Skulls and would recommend it to everyone who loved Primal Law and Black Magic, as well as Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy, Magick and Shifter lovers far and wide. Savage Awakening isn’t as fast paced, action packed and chock-full of ‘stuff’ as Primal Law was, but it’s a captivating and enjoyable read and a nice addition to the series. Bring on Kalen’s book J.D! After the ending of Savage Awakening and the events that took place in Black Magic, I CANNOT wait to find out how you deal with all of the drama. I am beyond excited!
Savage Awakening is the second instalment in the Alpha Pack series and Aric’s story. It opens a few weeks from where Primal Law ends and Aric Savage is being held captive by the same people who are killing shifters. He’s being tortured and abused and is very near to losing his mind because of the pain he’s had to endure.
Meanwhile, when our heroine, Rowan Chase, LAPD cop, kills a man in the line of duty, she takes some time out to clear her head as it’s the first person she’s killed while doing her job. While on leave she hears that there is a possibility her brother, Micah, who had gone missing months ago and thought dead, could be very much alive. What she doesn’t know is that Micah is an Alpha Pack operative and a shifter. When given the location of an unknown compound, she decides to check it out to see if she can find any answers, and so heads towards the top secret Alpha Pack HQ and the knowledge that supernatural beings roam among us.
I liked Savage Awakening a lot more than the first book, the writing seems so much tighter, flows better, and things are a little more believable than in Primal Law, and both the hero and heroine are more inline with what I like with regards to my hero/heroine’s personality traits.
Aric is a tortured hero who has lots of dark secrets, and guilt is eating him alive because of those secrets. He’s also brash, cocky and occasionally an all round douchebag. But gosh is he loveable, and of course bad-boy sexy.
Rowan is a very capable woman, with a career as a cop in the Los Angeles Police Department, which she loves, she has to be. She’s strong and doesn’t take crap from anybody, especially from Aric. When they meet during a recovery op, they are both instantly attracted to each other, and so their romance dance begins.
Both characters grew during the course of the book, especially Aric, and by the end although he was still his cocky, snarky self, I loved how he tried to right all his wrongs.
One of the aspects I can’t say I really enjoyed was the trope of the ‘destined couple’. It was much more noticeable with the first book, but even here the pull of destiny and how Aric and Rowan are meant to be together is what ultimately bonds them. However, I really enjoyed watching Aric and Rowan’s love for one another grow outside of the bond, I really felt by the end of the story that it wasn’t just the pull of destiny, but that real love was the reason they were together.
VERDICT
I really enjoyed Savage Awakening, mainly due to the hero and heroine, as they are both interesting characters. The plot is good too and there’s plenty of action to keep the story moving forward. A great addition to the series. Now onto Black Moon, and silky black panther, Kalen.
The book picks up where the previous books ended. Aric Savage was taken captive by his evil witch of a step sister in the first book. We pick up with him being tortured by her. Once she is done he is taken and experimented on and then thrown in a cage and see's that a team mate they thought was killed in the beginning of the first book, Micah Chase is in the cage next to him near death.
Rowan Chase is a tough LAPD officer who works in the gang infested East Side. After having to shoot a gang member who went rogue and put on leave she gets news about a possible location of where her brother Micah might be after being told he died in the line of duty 6 months before.
Rowan shows up at the compound where the Alpha Pack is housed and after being greeted by a pack of wolves and a black panther who suddenly turn into men she faints dead away.
Nick (the leader of the Alpha's) decides to tell Rowan the truth about them and about her missing brother. She of course has a hard time believing this but when she finds out they are preparing a mission to rescue what they hope are Aric and Micah she wants in.
The team does manage to get Aric and Micah back but were not able capture Aric step sister or Dr Bowman who has been experimenting on all shifters.
Aric realizes right away that Rowan is his mate but doesn’t feel he deserves her for not telling the team about his witch of a step sister that got so many of the team killed. Rowan also feels the pull but ignores it and try’s to concentrate on just helping her brother who is severally scared both on the inside and outside now from his time at the hands of Dr Bowman's experimentation.
We also see Kalen still struggling with the demon trying to control him and realizing that he may be the doom for the whole team and then mankind.
We learn a little more about this demon. Turns out he has ties to the Fae prince Sariel. We find out that the demon is the king of the Unseelie and is the Fae prince's father (after having raped his mother) and is the one that has been behind all the attacks on the Alpha's
I love this world that the author has created. Each book does end with one of the Alpha's finding their mate and bonding but it also leaves the impending destruction of the world and lots of story arc's unfinished at the end of each book. I cannot wait for the next one which should be a doozy as its Kalen's.
My Review: Last week, I determined that I was going to read one of the many, many books that I've bought and are languishing in my huge TBR pile. (I've pretty much spent all my reading time the last couple of months on review books.) This was the one that I chose....and it was the PERFECT choice. I haven't read any of the other books in this series. This is #2 and there is the first book and a novella that come before this, but I decided I wasn't going to let that put me off (although I swear I have book #1 somewhere around here!)
This book was so good!!! Sexy shifter soldiers...yeah, you know I'm right there and this is a fantastic group of them!! The book starts with Aric being tortured and right then I was hooked because you know this is going to be a good angsty hero and I do love those! Aric was captured when a mission went wrong and now he's being tortured at the hands of his step-sister. While in captivity though, he discovers that one of the Alpha pack, Micah, isn't dead....although he's really close.
The heroine in this book is super-tough LA cop, Rowan. She's been given a tip about her presumed dead brother Micah and ends up at the Alpha pack compound to investigate. Before this, she had no idea about shifters or other paranormal creatures or that her brother was one. She just knows that she's been told that he's dead and it's something that mentally she can't accept. She "knows" he's still alive.
I loved everything about this book. The whole Alpha team is amazing....from their leader Nick to the super-sexy sorcerer Kalen (he's the hero in book #3 and I cannot wait!!!) I like that J.D. puts a new twist on Bondmates. In this world, if the shifters don't claim their mate, then they die. Serious stuff here and it makes it so incredibly sexy. Micah is going to have an incredible story too after being in captivity for 6 months. He's horribly scarred both inside and out and he's going to have a long road to recovery.
Overall, I'm sold on this series. Now I need to go grab books #1 and #1.5 and catch up on what I've missed before this one! I highly recommend this series if this book is any indication about how good the whole series is. BTW, if you don't know....J.D. Tyler is the pseudonym for Jo Davis, the author of the incredible Firefighters of Station 5 series.
Bookswagger Danielle: Four Crowns. I was pleasantly surprised I actually enjoyed this book. I haven’t found a lot of books about wolves I have liked. Either the characters don’t fit or it’s the same concept. However, in Savage Awakening I didn’t have either one of these problems.
The males were strong just like I’d imagined a werewolf would be. Even the females were strong and for that I’d like to commend the author. I hate when authors make the females weak so the males can come in and save the day. I find that annoying come on this is 2012, as Beyonce said girls run the world.
This book featured a host of characters not just Rowan the heroine and Aric the hero however, it was still easy to follow. Rowan and Aric’s relationship was formed fast it was believable and didn’t seem forced. I liked the different take on the mating process and what happens to the male if they do not complete the mating. I respected Aric for trying to spare Rowan thereby making the choice hers. The book was wrapped up well but still had me wanting more.
I hate to admit this because I know Marcia is going to rub it in a little bit. I’m looking forward to the next book about Kalen.
Bookswagger Marcia: Three Crowns. This was a nice read full of supporting characters, you get the feeling all alpha team members will eventually get a story. This is my first time reading the series and I did not have a hard time following or understanding the world of the alpha team. I liked Rowan she was a tough chick, who was not over done. I have seen tough chicks over done and fight the relationship to long and make choices that did not make since much to my frustration. That did not happen in this book.
J.D. Tyler has built a world where wolves are born and made. The alpha team was made during a fight in Afghanistan (I refuse to spoil it for you) so it makes it plausible for human men to be turned into wolves (which is why realist Danielle likes it). Her world also consists of witches and other magical beings. This series is just picking up speed I can tell it is going to get darker and a host of magical creatures or going to get some attention so if this something you enjoy you might want to join the alpha pack team.
The Alpha Pack continues their struggle to find the mastermind behind NewLife Technology. Considering the atrocities they perform in the name of science the Pack knows that there is a sinister puppeteer pulling the strings of the scientists and doctors employed there. There number one goal is to bring this person down so that no more innocents are harmed in this sick goal of creating an indestructible super being.
Rowen knows her brother is still alive. She has called in every favor she can to get any lead that may tell her more about the circumstances of his alleged death. She’s used all of her street smarts and every skill she has obtained from her life as a cop to sleuth out answers. Her instincts that tell her that her brother still lives have sent her to the door of the Alpha Pack’s compound. She wants answers, even when they come to her in furry wolfed packages.
I hate to say this about Aric, he did nothing for me. I never fell in love with his character. I also can admit I don’t dislike him. He is the token snarky guy of the Alpha Pack. I typically love the sarcastic guy. My complete lack of connection to Aric had me nervous about going into his book. If I don’t form that connection to the hero or heroine their book can be trying for me to read. I love the other characters and this world enough that the pages still flew by for me.
I am so curious about Micah. He will have a long hard road ahead of him. The monsters at NewLife have left him beyond scarred. I still want to know more about the various member of the team that need their own books, yesterday. The entire cast of characters in this series is amazing. The revelations that were made about the evil that is after Kalen, the master puppeteer, and Sariel’s father were jaw dropping shocking. I cannot wait to read more of this series. I just love all these sexy black ops guys that are out to protect the unsuspecting humans.
*** the books in this series need to be read in order***
Savage Awakening starts out with our hero, Aric (love that name, btw--very original), chained up and being tortured by his stepsister, Beryl. He suffers great pain and is at the point where he struggles against the desire to give up...but he discovers that he is not alone in this 'motel of hell'. Micah, his teammate and Alpha Pack buddy who has been thought dead, lays huddled in a cage beside him at the brink of death.
Rowan Chase is hell bent on finding out what exactly happened to her brother, Micah, and a lead finds her standing in front of a pack of wolves...who then turn back to human. Very nekked and Very sexy human men. They are the Alpha Pack and police the paranormal world.
I love this new series by JD Tyler and it has the same sexiness as her Firehouse Series, except revolves around the paranormal world of shifters.
These men of the Alpha back are all gorgeous, well-built, and sexy in their own right. I enjoy reading them and learning new things about them with each book. And I can't wait to read the next installment--Black Moon--that is expected to release December 4, 2012. I have a feeling that this book will be a much darker read which I will relish and devour the day it comes out.
I also have a feeling that Micah's story will be a painfully emotional one that will bring me to tears. We get to learn a bit about his torture over the last six months, and already my heart clenched at what he went through. His mate will have to be a very strong woman to help him with his emotional scars.
I loved the humor, the pacing, and the fact that best is yet to come.
4.25stars really For the second full length series installment Micah's sister Rowan takes a leave from her position with LAPD to find Micah and is lead to the team's secret compound in Wyoming. Meanwhile this was a busy installment with quite a few highlights, including: Nick's concern that some of his visions are about to come to fruition; Kalen realization that his teammates like and accept him and his concern over the events of Black Magic coming to a head; Sariel contributed to the team in a big way and the rescue of some captured team members. It was very easy (for this reader) to dislike Rowan, her attitude was a bit much for me but she seemed quite different as her character got more in sync with the team and it was easy to see how she could help the team. Aric's basic character was close to his personality in book one. Aric did have some issues to work thru with the rest of the team over his capture and recovery from his ordeal at the clinic, these things made him seem a bit whiny at times. As a couple Rowan and Eric were fine but I do hope Aric and Jax's attitude toward the mating bond isn't carried through to the whole team. I liked that Sariel got a chance to actually socialize and provide some value to the team. I also liked where the Beryl thread took fighting the shadowy villan. Kalen's bad-assery continued as he once again made everyone want to be a panther shifter/sorcerer/necromancer.
I think I enjoyed Aric's story more than Jax's. Aric he's just all man, "already he hated her being away from him. Where he couldn't get to know her. Touch her. Eff her against the wall." He has this outside macho thing going on but where Rowen is concerned he's all big teddy bear, "that's not what you told me a little while ago." Leaning so close his breath fanned against the shell of her ear, he affected a falsetto. "Oooh, eff me harder, wolf-man." And when he thinks someone is gunning for his girl he goes all caveman, "what!" He was on his feet, hands shifting to claws, fur sprouting before he realized it. His voice emerged in a snarl. "Where is that mothereffer? I'll tear his a**hole out through his throat and feast on his carcass!" He always likes to make sure he wins who's d*** is bigger contest, "yeah? Bet his magical staff can't do what mine can." His lips turned up and his green gaze lit with mischief." When dealing with wolves you have to remember that they're proud animals and like to show off their goods, "his penis was hard, jutting proudly from it's nest of dark curls, arching toward his stomach like a comma. He wasn't the least bit shy about it, and she found that confidence incredibly sexy." He's a very generous lover and allows his woman to explore, "he broke the kiss, groaning, "Eff, yes, baby. Explore all you want. That's yours."
I enjoyed this book so much I had a hard time putting it down! Rowan is a cop whose brother has been missing. Most say he is dead but she feels he is still alive. She sets out to find him and finds the head quarters of some wolf shifters. They all set out together to find her brother as well as pack mate Aric. Aric and Micah have suffered enormously under their enemies care they are found and eventually Aric figures out Rowan is his mate. I love Rowan and Aric as a couple they have some good humor and great sex! I also love the other shifters in the group as well as a fae nicknamed "Blue" ( he has blue hair and wings!) I so hope Blue gets a story, it sure would make for a good one. The next book out is in December 2012 and I can hardly wait. Kalen- who is a sorcerer who looks a lot like Kris Angel!! is the hero in that story and I know it is gonna be awesome! I highly recommend this series to anyone who likes paranormal romances.
I'm really liking this series, I highly recommend it for those who love sexy, alpha male shifters. I do recommend reading them in order including the Novella that comes before this book.
With the first book I saw the potential in this series, with the novella I fell in love and this is another strong installlment in the series. I'm really enjoying getting to know not only the main couple but the surrunding characters as well. there are some distinctive personalities showing through that I can't wait to get to know better.
I'm intrigued by Micah and not just because we share a date of birth... Kalen, poor boy, I can't wait to get to his book! Nick, well lets just say I'm looking forward to meeting the female that will compliment him... :)
