message 1702: by Llaph (last edited Feb 12, 2013 08:48PM) (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments I read these two books yesterday:
Sword of Darkness (Lords of Avalon, #1) by Kinley MacGregor
And
Knight of Darkness (>Lords of Avalon, #2) by Kinley MacGregor

Now I remember why I had left it in the folder and had not read them yet. I was searching for something to read and was arrowing through my historical folder and heard k.mcgregor and looked in it. I did not want to read her historicals again and saw the folder for the Lords of Avalon series and remembered that I had not read it yet.
Bleh … I gave both books a 2, I suppose someone else might like them. They just did not work for me, reminded me why I avoid Arthurianish stories … I already know everyone dies and there are a lot of betrayals. The only story I read (more than once I love the cover) was The Mists of Avalon (The Mists of Avalon, #1) by Marion Zimmer Bradley So freaking sad … sad sad sad. I had a lot more tolerance back when I was in high school I guess.
The biggest thing that made me WTF was in the 2nd book the fmc and mmc have to get from Camelot to Avalon and have to travel through this valley of the unknown that is referred to as being worse than hell. After some near death experiences they are truckin’ through the forest and the fmc is recovering from a poison … she ends up having to cast up her accounts (I just wanted to use that phrase once, it makes me laugh), the mmc stays with her. She then asks him to kiss her … he is all for it … hello WTF she just puked … barf breath. There was a lot of mouth tasting listed in the description, I personally wanted to puke myself.

That is a pen name for Sherrilyn Kenyon if people did not know already, I thought to re-read her League series since a short story (I really want to see how she handles a m/m relationship) and a main book that is the book of one of the characters I had been wanting to read about since book 2 comes out this month. Can’t get through it either!

I am 60% some through with Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb I usually don’t share if I read a book that is not in the pnr/uf/fantasy/sci-fi category, but I had liked reading the series the first time. No matter the issues that people can have with it. I love mysterish/crimish books and those books are rather to the point and do not pull punches on delicate subjects. Yes it is a pen name for Nora Roberts and I have only read 1 book under the Nora Roberts name and liked itThe Witness by Nora Roberts. I don’t know if I will finish the In Death series … there are like almost 40 books in it.

Just bleh!
@ arushi:
My library had both books, I downloaded them and put them on my reader, I just couldn’t get into them yet. I have a good feeling they will be good so I haven’t deleted them from my reader yet and will get back to them. Out of all of the suggestions that I gathered from reading threads only 1 was bad imo.

I don’t drink coffee and do not really drink caffeine drinks so I wonder wtf I am so hyper and talkative atm?

I love that series, she put out a book bundle of the macreave books (there are three) if you want to save on that.
They are some of my favorite characters/books.
I think that they get better over time. The timeline for that series does not really go very far. I mean you can have a bunch of books for the same time period from different character povs.
I wonder if I explained that right....

I love that series. One of the few PNR's that actually still intrigue me. The Valkyries will keep getting better and so will the others :D

I seriously liked one of the books where one Valkyrie decides to kick the ass of the guy persuing her and since he can't die... they get real creative in finding ways to get rid of him. It was nice of him to forgive being buried by an avalanche.. and that was one of the lesser calamities that were sent his way.

@Llaph - The Gentelman Bastard series takes a little while to build up since it is high fantasy and a whole new world needs to be created. But it has a really well layered story-line and seriously good character development. I took me a week to read the first book and I am still reading the second one... but they are so so good...

I love the Dory series as a whole, even more than the Cassie series. It might have something to do with the fact that I read this one first...

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 1164 comments Getting back to a series I started long ago but never really continued. I'm not real big on historical romance but since reading the Fever series...I wanted to know more about the druids.

@Arushi Lol! I look forward to seeing that. I love the Valkyries.

Just finished No Rest for the Wicked (Immortals After Dark, #3) by Kresley Cole and loved it. Not quite as much as book 1, but I adored Sebastian. He was overbearing at times, but man, what a sweetie! And yet, he was still quite fierce. I liked Kaderin a lot, too. Deep down, she's such a softie. ★★★★ stars

Next is Desire Unchained (Demonica, #2) by Larissa Ione finally.

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments Death's Mistress (Dorina Basarab, #2) by Karen Chance

I like the Dory series more than the Cassie one, but that is because I like Dory's actions and personality more. Oh ... and I am just more bloodthirsty and like to read about ass kicking.

Out of the wroth brothers I rather like, in this order, conrad, sebastion, Nicolai, and Murdock is his name I think(reallyreally don't like that book)
I love the MacRieves and am looking forward to July and Uilleam's book.

Ione needs to hurry up I want the next book already....

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments I'm looking forward to meeting Conrad to see what he's like. So far, I like Sebastian best. What didn't you like about Murdoch's book?

Of the MacRieves, I've got a soft spot for Bowen even though I'm totally in love with Lachlain. I need to see more of Garreth to make a decision about him.

message 1722: by Llaph (last edited Feb 14, 2013 09:11PM) (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments The thing I did not like about his book was that it was too emo. Some people might like that, but I am not a fan of the "I care for you a lot but I would hurt you so I will keep away from you even if it makes us miserable" trope.
Conrad's book is one of the books in that series that I really liked. Looking @ GR rating and comments though let me know my opinion is not always the same as other people. I am weird I guess!
Sometimes I think their fated brides/mates/whatever
are poor choices! Murdock's I would smack around....

Bowen is my favorite of the three. I still like them, but I <3 bowen.
I will say that Garath is very persistant.... Though his book bordered on the thing I had issues with with murdock's book. I think it is because I like Lucia and Garath more, personality wise. Once again my blood thirsty side is showing ... since there is a proper amount of ass kicking in that book.

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments I had most of it done--might as well have finished it.
Born of Night (The League, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

@ Diane:
I can understand that ... books I would give a 4 or 5 to people would give a 2 or 3.... I rather dislike books that have no story to them--I mainly read for the story duh. Always like those books that are really erotica/fulla sex disguised as something else. Nothing says fun like having something like that sprung on you when you were not expecting it at all.

message 1725: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments @Mello - SO currently you are reading two of the PNR series's that I really like. I am not huge fan of the Wroth brothers directly but they are fun... and so are the Macrieve's. I like Gareth's book for the same reason Llaph mentioned. There is a lot of ass-kicking going on...

There are some other books that are also really good.. but my favorite scene so far is in Lothaire's book. I won't explain exactly what happens, coz it is a spoiler, but I loved how Nix rubbed it in at Lothiare. That was fun!

I don't know whether to say they read really fast ... or like I had nothing to do today.
To be fair, sort of, I had gotten 65% through Born of Fire last hnhight.

Just feel like reading asskickery lately I guess! Kasen is still a stupid, selfish spoiled, bitch and I hope and pray SK does not write her a book. Maybe a short where she gets sucked into a wormhole that might pay back all of the crap she has done to her siblings over the years. I seriously don't get people.

I also took an ambien and this post might actually make some sense up in der.

So yeah... those are good books. I will look forward to hear what you think of them.

I love the Seminus demons and my favorite brother is Wraith. I am not sure if I like his book above the others but I do adore him.

I can never make up my mind about my favorite Lord though. I won't talk about what makes me like who though... maybe after you've read more of the books. Bur like Llaph I also liked Paris's book (not my fav though).

As for LotU, I'm liking Paris more than I thought I would, initially.

@Arushi That is good to know!

I have seen many mixed reactions regarding Wraith's book. Some love Wraith the most, but think his book didn't do him justice. Others like him the most and loved his book. I'm curious to see how I will feel about it.

Once I've read more of the books, I'll certainly ask why you like which of the Lords that you do.

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments Ah, finished The Darkest Pleasure (Lords of the Underworld, #3) by Gena Showalter and I loved it, too. So far, of the three books, I think book 2 is still my favorite. I love Reyes still, though.

After reading this, my soft spot for Paris is continuing to grow after what he did at the end, there. So far, all of the guys have chosen their women over the possible suffering of their friends except for him. And he even knows what her fate is after making the choice that he made. Ugh, that poor guy.

And I'm looking forward to seeing Sabin fall head over heels. He doesn't hesitate to use the abilities of the other guys' women even if it puts them in danger and he wanted to kill Danika so the Hunters wouldn't get her. I wanted to slap him for that. Still love him, though.

I think the IAD series gets much much better and I really don't like the first book as much as the others. I generally skip it when I re-read the series.
Then again I did not zoom in on the part that made you angry.
I think that the other books aren't really like the first book, I think it was more of a short story than the first official book in the series. Then again the timeline in that series is wonky compared to other series.
