Finally … but damnit I have to wait another year to get the next book and have to put up with hints and crap between then and now.

I needs me a shiny….

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Llaph, did you finish it already, or are you just starting?

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 1164 comments I know what you mean Llaph 'cause I finished Ever After (The Hollows, #11) by Kim Harrison too. Far better than A Perfect Blood as pacing goes.

message 1654: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Yeah a lot of people are saying it's the best book (Although I think I still like Pale Demon the best).

Just a bit ago, I babbled in the KH thread.
@ Val:
I agree that it is a better book than the last one, but not as good as Pale Demon was. I mean APB was not as good as Pale Demon or somethinglike that.
I realy really liked this book though--did not catch myself wanting to take a break even. The first thing I did was go pee ... I did not read it in a long stretch though, lol, I meant that last part for the last 1/2 1/3 of the book.

Ask me what I think a month later and it may be different, but I don't think so.

I put what I was working on on hold to finish the book, bad bad llaph.

I agree. A Perfect Blood was not one of the stronger books in the series but this one was a bit of an improvement.

@ Zeenat - I think Pale Demon is my favorite too. Though there were a couple earlier ones that were up there too.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 1164 comments @Llaph, I wanted to read it sooner but I had to wait for it to fit a reading challenge. :)

I agree that Pale Demon has more weight and is better balanced than Ever After. Even if I gave it a high rating I was ticked by (view spoiler)

Maybe after Prince of Thorns I was feeling a bit too bloodthirsty.

Sarah Wilson | 404 comments I've been reading the Atlantis series by Gena Showalter. I hear a lot about her LOTU series and wonder if it's better.
Just finished The Nymph King (Atlantis, #3) by Gena Showalter . I know I'm not the biggest PNR fan but I still like some and appreciate the difference between a well written or roll your eyes romance. Usually I like the first book in a PNR series best if it's well written because the books get repetitive after that and that's what I don't like. This Atlantis series though is weakly written. It's some of Showalter's earliest work so maybe that's why and her LOTU books are better? In this series the books are actually getting better. I can see her writing improving so I'm of the tentative hope that is the case overall since she has a lot of books.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 1164 comments Sarah, I haven`t read the Atlantis series so I can`t comment about it. I`ve started her Alien Huntress books but somehow did not get sucked in by it. LOTU on the other hand is a different story. I can`t put my finger on it but the pacing is better and I find the characters more likable....it also helps that there are some cameo appearances from Kresley Cole`s Immortals after Dark series.

message 1661: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments All of her series have their own something something. The Atlantis series was okay, not her best and yes earlier work, but it was a lot better to me than her first pnr series of Imperia. I saw the growth I guess it would be called.
I kind of liked the Alien Huntress series, parts of it irritated me, but on the whole it was okay if I did not think too hard about some things.
LOTU series I liked more, it is not my favorite, but I liked the pacing and storyline mostly. The IAD cameos and reffrences were an "ah ha! I know what that is about!" thing. There are some in the Alien Huntress series, and her Supergirl series too.

I guess it is the mythology parts ... greco-roman mythology and the religion around that area were something I liked to read about and some of her interpretations made me do an eye roll @ them.

Just somethings about her books rub me the wrong way and don't seem to have a chance of actually happening or seem over the top. I can't put my finger on one thing though. :/

I don't get that feeling mostly in her two contemporaries though.... I really rather like Primal Instincts and Catch a Mate.

Sarah Wilson | 404 comments Thanks Val and Llaph.

I read the Alien Huntress books, well most of them. I dropped off near the end. They are better than the Atlantis books so it sounds like she improved and maybe I'll like LOTU. I haven't read Cole's Immortals After Dark so maybe I should read those first? I've heard of them.

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments I really really like IAD series, it is one of the series of mine that I have read more than around 3 times I think, I don't keep track
It is to the point I treat it like DH series, I skip the books I don't like, once is enough for me to not have my 'omgimightmisssomething' fixation tingle.
I will say that LOTU is the best of her series imo, the spin off that she has only has one book so far but I like it too.

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments God Save the Queen (The Immortal Empire, #1) by Kate Locke

I don't really read steam punk, but I ran out of new things to read, sort a, andI read about the FMC being the goblin queen and had to see WTF. Out of all of the books I have read that have goblins in it, that I remember without taxing my brain, I like the goblins in the MG series and the goblins in Jerlayne by Lynn Abbey the rest are meh whateverish.
I really liked reading that book and put some wear on the paperback I have (It was one of those good things where the cover was rather interesting to me and I got lucky that it was an okay book), too bad I have not found it in one of my libraries or I would read it again. Not picking it to be the first e-book I buy to read on my phone though.

Shannon Butcher? Their styles are quite different, I'd say. Especially since she's writing PNR, but she sure does know how to tell a good story.

Margo | 663 comments Okay so I am kind of restless lately and can't seem to find anything that will hold my interest for very long and so I've started a few books but I just didn't feel like reading them at the moment so I decided to put them aside for a bit and maybe I'll come back to them in near future.

Because I could not concentrate on reading I've watched 35 episodes of Kingdom which is based on Yasuhisa Hara's Kingudamu 1 and I have to say I really liked it and am waiting for 3 more episodes and I'm happy that there will be second season in June :)

I also watched Blade of the Immortal, Volume 11 Beasts by Hiroaki Samura but didn't like it much :/

I'm starting House Rules (Chicagoland Vampires, #7) by Chloe Neill and hopefully I'll be able to finish it in one go but the way I'm feeling lately everything is possible *shrugs*

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments I just finished The Unidentified Redhead (Redhead, #1) by Alice Clayton and truly enjoyed it. 4 stars. Not quite as much as Wallbanger, but it sure was fun and sexy. The humor felt a little forced in some places, but for the most part, it was funny. And really sexy. message 1680: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I finished Lover Unbound and it was OK. The romance wasn't completely over the top the way it was in some of the earlier books. It actually felt quite lukewarm in comparison to those. I was annoyed by the whole thing with the Chosen and that spoiled it a bit for me. I also didn't like how we have a very career-oriented successful surgeon who suddenly gives everything up for her man. Barf.

I'm definitely going to read Phury's book because I do like him as a character (even though I think I'm about the only one LOL) but I need to read other stuff in between. Too much BDB at once would make me upchuck. I'm going to start House Rules probably tomorrow.

That is one of the books I skim through sometimes ... h8 chosen.

I am in agreement with you on Jane for sure ... that is so dumb. Pooring all of that time and effort in....
Then there is Manny ... I like him for the most part (he has better taste in music imo), but you havn't gotten to his book and wont for a while if you space them out. Plus Lover Unleashed is a meh book ... and I am babbling....

Storm Born (Dark Swan, #1) by Richelle Mead

Since I was able to get the last book I figured I would try and read the series again. You know ...reading a story again to see it differently? I still think Eugenie is a dumb whiner and Kiyo still rubs me the wrong way.

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments Thorn Queen (Dark Swan, #2) by Richelle Mead

I started Iron Crown after this book ... I just couldn't do it. Eugenie irritated me too much. The choices she made, she was too quick to condemn, justify/explain things, and say she loved someone.

I cheated and read the last few pages in book 3 and 4. I just wanted to see the big picture, I can deal without the little things that just pissed me off. I did the same thing with the last book in the Georgina Kincaid series....

whinewhinewhine

My brain is fried after spending like the whole day working on my english comp assignment ... It is confusing as hell to have two tapes for 1 course.
1 tape for the actual course and one tape for the quiz/tests.
It is stupid they still have tapes, my last course was a DTB I could listen to on my reader.
My dad actually tracked down a tape player for me on the internet ... seriously try to find one that has variable speed.
and my papaw said cassette tapes were just a fad

I thought it was kind of weird how she started doing POVs for different characters ... it got kind of confusing. Persephone's view was still first person while the others were not. Reminds me of what Rachel Caine did in the Morganville vamps in the latest books.
