I remember reading call of the wild in school, or at least I remember the

I have read a few classics with mixed feelings. The picture of Dorian Gray was pretty good and not too daunting a task, but I also read Les Miserables' this year and felt overwhelmed.

i think buddy reads will help when the devil gets in the details..

message 57: by Holly (new)

Holly | 1184 comments Oh, I really want to read Les Miserables'! I keep putting it off because it's so big.

Alondra Miller Holly wrote: "Oh, I really want to read Les Miserables'! I keep putting it off because it's so big."

The core of the story is touching, sad and quite elegant; the other stuff .... Victor Hugo's details took away from it. There are times where my eyes literally glazed over. Make sure to read it at leisure.

I plan on it. Whenever I decide to read it, I was thinking of reading another book along with it so I can switch off it it becomes too much.

Oh, definitely! With a book like that, I think you NEED to something else to rotate it with.. otherwise, one tends to get burned out. I did the same thing when I read Dickens' Bleak House.

I could maybe go for a re-read of White Fang... When I was just a kid, I used to read that book every year in winter time, then for some reason in high school I didn't do it anymore. So it's been a long long time since I've read it, though I'd like to read it again one of these days. Just don't know how soon.

Holly | 1184 comments Would anyone be interested in reading The Moonstone with me?

message 79: by Holly (new)

Holly | 1184 comments Okay, I'm back on the classics kick lol. What does everyone say? There are quite a few on my list that I'd like to get to sometime in the near future. Anyone up to it?

message 80: by Kit★ (new)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 345 comments Which ones you thinking about? I've got a few I wouldn't mind tackling eventually.

message 81: by Holly (new)

Holly | 1184 comments Which ones are on your list? I'll compare them to mine and see if we have any in common.

message 82: by Holly (new)

Holly | 1184 comments I took a look at your classics shelf Kit and I came up with three choices: Gone With the Wind, Wuthering Heights, or The Moonstone. Let me know if you'd like to read any of these soon.

message 83: by Rachel (new)

Rachel i'm not a fan of the classics either but do plan on reading rebecca this year- have heard good things about it and would def be interested in a buddy read if anyone wants to read it.

fyi- when throwing annoying books -look before you throw- i dented my wall when i threw a hardcover many years ago (i really hated the ending) lol

message 84: by Kit★ (new)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 345 comments Oh I'd love to read Rebecca. Read some other DuMaurier stuff last year and really liked it, but I lost my copy or something, gotta replace it.
Holly, I'd love to do Wuthering Heights, I watched the PBS Masterpiece version and loved it, so I'm very interested in reading it now.
Ha, I seem to be throwing the love around a lot here, sorry :)

message 85: by Rachel (new)

Rachel kit let me know if you want to do a buddy read for rebecca - i can't read it until april (or later)

message 86: by Kit★ (new)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 345 comments Ok, when I find me a copy I'll come back :)

message 87: by Rachel (new)

Rachel sounds like a plan :)

message 88: by Holly (new)

Holly | 1184 comments Wuthering Heights sounds good to me Kit. When would you like to do it?

message 89: by Kit★ (new)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 345 comments April? So far March is looking busy :)

message 90: by Holly (new)

message 92: by Holly (new)

Holly | 1184 comments Ah yes Chuck! Forgive me, but I totally forgot about that. When do you want to start it? I have a buddy read coming up as soon as I finish the current book I'm reading, but we could start it then if that'd be alright with you?

message 98: by Holly (new)

Holly | 1184 comments Sounds good Terri. I was thinking of starting it somewhere in mid March. Hope that's enough notice!

message 99: by [deleted user] (new)

Mid-March works great for me, Holly. I've got the Kindle copy on my Mac, so I can access it any time, even though I will probably get a copy from the library as well.
