New to the group? Say Hello Here!
It's fine at the moment. It's only if they get massively out of hand that I think it puts off new people who feel they have to wade through 'back copies'.
Hi and welcome to everyone I've not greeted yet.I'm pleased you've joined us and I look forward to seeing you in lots of threads!
Please remember, if you need any help in finding your way round, we're all more than happy to help.
:)
Hi Paul, Danielle, Kerry and Mike, welcome to the group. Hope you like your kindle fire Kerry, I have a friend who is bringing hers to show me next week as I haven't seen one yet. I think you will like the pet thread too Kerry, pop over and tell us all about your pets.
Hello everyone,I am A.K. Hill, author of A Mediocre Man. I have quite an eclectic taste in books, both reading and writing them. Anything from modern fiction short stories through to epic fantasy novels.
I have been lucky enough recently to get some time away from the hustle and bustle of the world to concentrate on my writing. Turning the scraps of stories I have scribbled down over the years into something more substantial.
I have recently self published my first book, a modern fiction novella charting the death of an ordinary man, set against the backdrop of a world obsessed with gossip and rumour.
So far it has received positive reviews, but I do need to make some grammatical amendments that have sadly been missed. In the meantime I am working hard on my next two novellas, one a sci-fi story in a near future setting; the other a fantasy story that forms part of a mythological world that has been growing in my head since I was a boy.
Thanks for reading.
Hello and welcome A.K. I will have a wee peek at your book later. It does sound interesting!I have some cakes in the oven at present, having shamefully neglected hubbie this week while indulging in my passion for reading and am currently trying to make amends :@)

You think a neglected husband can be bought off by homemade cake? ... Yeah that sounds about right! :)
Hmmm.... Cake...... Don't worry about the credit card bill or that bloke hiding under the bed or the dent in the car or the huge amazon bill..... When will the cake be ready?
No Patti,Dave will be just so happy to have YOU and stew on his return!Phil will even forgive my Amazon bill when he tastes this cake!I've also made beef olives and fudge and cherry scones
Hi all, I've been lurking around GR for a while - found some nice historical novel recs through this site some time ago - but this is the first time I've ever posted.
About me... I'm a historian, artist, teacher and writer, and juggle those hats according to what I'm doing at any given moment. At this point my focus is on writing and I've just released my first indie novel through Kindle (but will blurb about that elsewhere!). I live in the UK with my two Cavaliers ... very writing-friendly breed, especially when they learn to respect the computer!
Reading-wise, my enduring passion is historical fiction. Jean Plaidy got me into history two decades ago, and I've been hooked ever since. I also collect twentieth century girls' school stories, and have spent more than my fair share of time riding the HP bandwagon. Weirdly, I also love space opera - but I prefer it with lots of good strong female characters and it's difficult to find the right balance of tech/plot/female character. Elizabeth Moon remains my favourite so far. Also a fan of Elizabeth Peters and Amelia!
Welcome A.K. and Elizabeth. A.K., we have a number of members who are happy to act as beta readers to catch those errors. Don't forget to open a Meet the Author thread, will you? We always like to hear about new authors and their books.
Hi Elizabeth!I'm DeeDee, welcome to the group! I love historicals too: have you tried Georgette Heyer???
I have. My background is eighteenth century women's history, so I positively drooled over GH. The depth of her research is simply astonishing... And her stories are a delight. As a series freak I'd have loved to find a series by her, but they all seem to be stand alones. Thanks for the welcome!

Do you have a favourite Heyer???

Hi Dee Dee
Thanks for the welcome. Just finding my way round here at the mo. It's going to be hard to log-off!
Hi Eve and welcome. Tell me you're going to start your own Meet the Authors thread? It gives us chance to talk to you about your work. The problem with this thread is that it gets regularly erased.
Just dropping a note to say I've added a thread in the 'Meet the Author' thread ans I'd dearly love to chat to anyone who pops by! My thread is feeling a little unloved at the moment...
Hi all!I just published my sensational new novel 'Single, Spiritual...AND Sexual!' in a series of 8 e-books on Amazon Kindle: http://www.cezannepoetess.wordpress.c...
Would love your feedback!
Welcome Cezanne, have you created a Meet the Author thread? That's the place to get yourself noticed as this thread is only used to say hello and it gets regularly purged.
Hi there, I am Roberta and apart from being a mum of three fine teenage/young adult son's, I am also a fledgling poet/writer who has just published my first colleciton of poetry called 'Forbidden Fruit' on kindle. I am a widow of 10 years and am currently studying for my English Lit Degree through the OU. I love to write and read poetry and have had a couple of articles/short stories/poems published over the past 12 years since discovering my passion for writing.
I have chronic RSI since 1989 and consider it a miracle to have raised my son's and even contemplated writing for a living. I have the OU to thank for giving me the equipment and great support necessary to get me and my family where we are today.
I have written on several writing/type internet platforms over the years, but am now mainly on facebook and writerscafe sites due to pressure of study/parenting/life.
I must say it feels good to find so many writerly types here and I look forward to getting to know some of you and your writing in the future.
Roberta aka Tai
