Hello and welcome Rob! Charlie is just magnificent.I will have a look at your books as we love the Dales.
Hi Rob, welcome. Charlie is stunning and lots of fun too I guess. We have a pets thread too, hope to see you there. We love the Dales and spend quite a bit of time there for weekends, we live in Sheffield so it's not too far to travel. It's a beautiful part of the country.

In fact, that's where I first got addicted to walking. Jumping on a bus to Fox House or Castleton was a treat at the weekends. The publishers who did my dog walking book also do another for Derbyshire. Might be useful.

Hello. I am a member but forgot this all important step...the introduction!I've already met some of you, but if you don't know me, here's my short intro.
Hello, my name's Jon Rance and I'm the author of This Thirtysomething Life, recent number 1 on the free Kindle charts in the UK and the upcoming novel, Happy Endings, out 12.12.12.
I currently live in San Diego, CA but looking forward to moving back to the UK soon. I miss the pubs, the weather (no, really), the banter and being able to walk everywhere. San Diego is nice, but not for me.
I love to read, although with two young kids, work, writing, college course and sleep...I don't have anywhere near enough time to do it.
I hope to be on here for a while talking gibberish and hopefully meeting more lovely people.
Cheers,
Jon

Hello! I'm Malice, I'm 24, married, have a 2 year old son and live in the Netherlands. I love reading, although I'm also quite busy and don't really have a lot of money to spend on books (another reason I like ebooks, they cost less which means more books!).
My dream is to one day be able to write a book of my own, but seeing how everything I think of has already been used (many of those I have found in the past few days and added to my to read shelve) it's quite difficult. Oh well! we'll see what the future brings, right?
Nice to meet you all.
Welcome to the group, Malice. You'll find some good reader recommendations here - we like sharing news about our favourite authors and ebooks!

Hi Angie!!!
I'm DeeDee, welcome to the forum! Pull up a chair, grab a brownie and tell us what sort of genres you like!!!
Hi DeeDeeI just love a good book where I can get consumed into the story and follow the characters.
So all genres appeal to me :-)

I'm the same! Do you have a favourite author? Mine is Georgette Heyer.

Hiii!
Hello Angie. Have a look at the Author threads and Reader Recommendations for some ideas. Welcome to the gang.

Hi Malice, if you want to write a book write it. I wouldn't worry if it's been done before - pretty much all books have. You'll have your own voice and own style and that's what will make your book unique. Just jump in and see what happens.
HiI'm a director of an English language school for foreign students. Married, with one daughter. Poetry pamphlets: Wasted Leaves, 1996; I Went With Her, 2007. I've had poems published in such magazines as Orbis, Iota, The Interpreter's House, Poetry Nottingham, Poetry Salzburg Review, Poetry Cornwall, and others. I have now written five novels. I would describe them as surreal novels exploring the nature of relationships, romantic and sexual, and Britain's class-system, with liberal use of comedy and satire, creating original and riveting settings full of humour, romance, sex and adventure.
I've put info about my novel GABRIELLA on New Releases, plus here's a short poem for comment'appraisal/etc.
DUE
I have in the end to scribble something.
Not to churn out a commonplace commentary on her demise
would denote disrespect, unwillingness to observe due rites.
Not to scribble some drivel,
trite sentiments on the reaper, and our common fate,
would negate her, at least within my orbit.
We deserve more.
A few minutes of time, churlishly given,
records she had a life,
and it crossed at times with his or hers or mine.
We knitted together a bit of the frail twine
which patterns our length of time.
Grief and despair belong to her own,
in their houses,
but a minute or two of my time
is the least I can do.
I recall the plump space she filled
the wobbly line she walked
accented words she spoke
blue eyes which sparkled at me
during the crossing of our paths
in the time I was there.
Hi Alan,Welcome to the group. We don't get nearly enough poetry here and......
Well, what can I say, very emotive.....
Thanks!
Hi Jon, Malice, Angie and Alan, welcome to our lovely group. Look forward to getting to know you all.

I've gone and done it (set up an author thread), feel free to ask me anything about the books, Charlie the Springer Spaniel, or even me...
Hi Alan. Welcome. We have a few poets here, some published, some in the privacy of their own heads! There will be a few in our group Anthology - should have been out yesterday but Amazon are running slow. Watch out for the announcement!
oooooooooh! Woderful news!Sorry Alan.Loved your poem just got rather carried away on hearing that Splendid Salmagundi may be released today.Welcome to the forum!
Hi, I'm Michael. I'm from Lancaster, went to Manchester University and I'm now working in the Middle East emptying sand out my shoes every other day. I work abroad for 6 weeks then come back to the UK for 3 weeks (I miss the rain, really). In my free time I'm marketing, writing, playing board games and catching up with all my friends. I've been on Goodreads a while but have only recently been more active and getting to know the community better. Oh, and I also write about magical crisp packets who live in rubbish tips...The Super Spud Trilogy
Hi Michael and welcome. New authors are always welcome to open a thread of their own in our Meet the Authors section.
Hithanks for nice words and welcoming greetings from all of you. Obviously, I'm just feeling my way around at the moment...I've already just been in the Sin Bin(!) for getting the release date of my novel 'Gabriella' wrong in NEW RELEASES, but I think I've sorted it now, and it should be OK...The group Anthology sounds interesting. How does that work? How does one get involved?
Will keep in touch, and greetings to all new members
Alan
Last year, the first year of this group's existence, we had the idea of producing and anthology - short stories, poems, even a few recipes from the appropriate section in the group. It is called http://www.amazon.co.uk/A-Goodreads-G...a great 77p worth.
This year we are awaiting (should have gone live yesterday) the second group book, A Splendid Salmagundi. Entirely stories and poems this time, and twice the size (the group has grown!)
I have no doubt we'll be looking at another volume next year so stick around!
Welcome all the new people. Hope you all settle in and find all the wonderful things in here. If you disappear without a trace, give a shout. Someone will soon get you dusted off, sorted out and back on the road to discovery.
I hope there is another anthology next year. I just missed out on this one. Would love to submit a short story. Of course, I'll have to write one first!
