I see a lot of people have recommended Neil Gaiman's 'Graveyard Book' as a November read, and I would echo that. It is charming.

I've been reading some Swedish UF by Nene Ormes inbetween the WOT books. First Udda Verklighet and now Särskild, both surprisingly good. I'm not exactly spoiled for good Swedish fantasy. Once I wrap up Särskild I think I'll finally get around to Libriomancer. Better late than never?

Ah! I didn't realize there was going to be a new one. Is this the fifth? I'll have to pick it up when it (I hope) comes out in English.

* Memory of Fire by Holly Lisle
* Litany of the Long Sun by Gene Wolfe

Fifth Watch, yes. And he is quite good in writing space operas and cyberpunk - in fact his Лабиринт отражений. Фальшивые зеркала. Прозрачные витражи are the only cyberpunk novels I can swallow :D

The Belgariad series
1.Pawn of Prophecy
2.Queen of Sorcery
3.Magician's Gambit
4.Castle of Wizardry
5.Enchanters' End Game
The Malloreon series
1.Guardians of the West
2.King of the Murgos
3.Demon Lord of Karanda
4.Sorceress of Darshiva )
5.The Seeress of Kell
Belgarath the Sorcerer with Leigh Eddings
Polgara the Sorceress with Leigh Eddings
The Rivan Codex with Leigh Eddings
The Elenium series
1.The Diamond Throne
2.The Ruby Knight
3.The Sapphire Rose
The Tamuli series
1.Domes of Fire
2.The Shining Ones
3.The Hidden City
And headed into The Dreamers series next.
1.The Elder Gods with Leigh Eddings
2.The Treasured One with Leigh Eddings
3.Crystal Gorge with Leigh Eddings
4.The Younger Gods with Leigh Eddings
This is some solid old-style Fantasy that anyone who has not read them should take a look at!

i thought this was a very good follow up."
yep..its pretty good so far

How are you finding the first one thus far?

At least it will be less complicated, and take less time than reading all ten volumes in Malazan Book of the Fallen one after another.

OTOH if you have a long commute or more spare time, it's probably doable. Also, the ebook won't be released until April, so if you don't want a hardcover you have plenty of time to finish.

The Eye of the World isn't the best WOT book by far, so I'd try to get through book 2 at least to see if you like it or not. :) The first book is a little too generic quest-y high fantasy.

I must admit I wasn't too hyped about it by the end of book 1 either, which didn't get much better for the first half of the second. Once I pushed through (I'm such a completionist that I just couldn't leave the book half read :P) I've been reading 100+ pages a day, which is what free time I have to read.
Both the plot and most of the annoying characters get a LOT better from the second half of the second book on so I'd read at least that much before giving up on the series altogether.

Book 3 definitely picks up the pace, I finished it in 3 days! Seriously can't wait to see what happens next, just started book 4 :)
Was pleasantly surprised to notice book 4 is almost twice as long as the third! Though if there's more 1k+ page books in the series I might not be able to catch up in time for the 14th, we'll see :)

Quickly? It appears to take 3 books to get there. I'm old and have not much time to waste.

I made it through book one. I, like Cher, tend to cut my losses early, and in this case it was not quite early enough.
