I wish what you are saying made sense to me, but it doesn't. I thought the 3 rolls of the dice in the beginning determined the numbers already.
Do i need to re-roll or something?

Can you explain what i am doing wrong? I finally thought I was getting the hang of this game.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks

message 212: by Belinda (last edited Nov 18, 2012 10:10PM) (new)

Belinda | 801 comments Ezi - each roll (ie. set of 3) of the dice equals one turn. Each turn needs to link to one book or set of books to be read.

So for your first turn you need to choose either one book in the first section for the 'two's' or a small straight (3 books).

Turn two is a large straight so you would need to read four books for that.

Turn 3 you need to choose one of the options given: either read one book for either the 'obe's' or 'three's' in the top section or use the chance in the lower section.

Once you have completed these three turns you would need to roll the dice again to determine what to read next.

I hope this helps a little...

message 213: by Ezi (new)

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) | 2516 comments @belinda...
That sounds like exactly what I did. Angela rolled for me and I chose
1) small straight
2) large straight
3) the top section

Right?
Thanks
Ezi

message 214: by Belinda (new)

Belinda | 801 comments @ Ezi:
For turn 3 you needed to choose one part of the section, not the whole section. Ie. choose to read the part for three's or the part for one's. Each title in any given section is a separate 'challenge', meaning that there are six separate turns (or rolls) for the top section. Does that make more sense?

message 215: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I just noticed that I spelled your name wrong. Sorry about that.

message 216: by Mary X (last edited Nov 19, 2012 08:29AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Ezi: you need a minimum of 13 Turns (3 rolls per turn) to finish the game. She said we could have 1 redo roll before we had to fill in a 0 and lose one of the turns. So if you do a roll that you can't make fit into one of your still open categories you can dump that roll and go again. But only once per game. If you use your 1 redo roll and get another roll that you can't make fit then you take a 0 for something.

So for the game you need:

Each turn involves up to 3 rolls of the 5 dice.
Top Section turns: 6
Bottom Section turns: 7
Total Turns: 13

message 217: by Angela (last edited Nov 19, 2012 08:36AM) (new)

Angela Ezi: I only rolled for you three times, which means you can only complete three of the thirteen tasks. Once you are finished with a task you can roll again. I have you completing the SMALL STRAIGHT/ LG STRAIGHT task as of now.
For the third one you can use THREES/ONES/or CHANCE.

message 218: by Ezi (new)

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) | 2516 comments alright ladies. Since I am still in laa-laa land, I think I will watch you all, and see if the game makes more sense to me.
If I get the hang of it, then I will join in again next month.

message 219: by Angela (new)

Angela You are doing fine, just a bit confused on the rolls. Let me know which book you want to use for your third roll(I would personally use ONES) and I will roll for you again and help along the way.

I feel bad. I don't want to create more work for you guys than necesarry.

but I would like to learn. I will go to the internet and read about the game.

RE: your offer
I think I would like to use Venomby Jennifer Estep for my 3rd roll. I would like to follow your recommendation and use the ONES---(just make sure to explain what that means once you roll, LOL).

message 221: by Angela (new)

Angela Since you already finished a book for the ONES, I would use that. You can keep that crossed off and uncross all the others (2-6). I will roll again for you in a bit :)! BTW no worries, you will get the hang of it!!

message 222: by Angela (new)

Angela FOR EZI:

TURN #4
5,2,3,5,4 (This is your first roll and since you still need THREE OF A KIND FOUR OF A KIND and your FIVES, we will be keeping those and rolling three dice this time)

5,5,1,1,4 (Second roll, you already using your ONES so we could go for a FULL HOUSE but if you do not get that then you would be stuck using your FIVES and 10 is not a very high score for FIVES, so I am going to roll three dice again)

5,5,5,2,4 (This is your final roll and I would use THREE OF A KIND because it is a high score=21)

If you choose to use a THREE OF A KIND, you would need to read THREE books by any author but must have the same letter in the beginning of their last name (for example if I choose A: Megan Abbott, Cecelia Aheren, or Dorothy Allison or can read all books by same author)

OR if you use your fives, you would be reading ONE book with a five word title or the word five in the title or the fifth book in a series. Your total would be 15.

You can only choose ONE option for this roll and you will not be able to use any of the books that you already listed above.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I looked for the answer to this but don't see it: for Full House is it a new author or a new to me author? And can the new author also be a goodreads author? Because it seems like most of the newer authors are goodreads authors.

Danielle (bookaddict27) | 58 comments @Mary- this was asked eariler in the game and Angela wrote: "If you read a book that is a new author (to you) or their first published book and they happen to be a GR author too that works."

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I thought I saw something about that but then I couldn't find it. That makes it easier.

So I could read a John Steinbeck book because I've never read him before right? Obviously he's not a goodreads author since he died 50 years ago. But he's new to me.
