Matthew (drnaah) My name is Matt. I'm a veterinarian and father of four (no, I never read animal books because they always end badly). I'm looking for a group for people who like to read books in a lot of different genres, and who like to talk about books.

Dione Sage | 16 comments Hi Everyone,
My name is Dione (Deon). I think this group sounds perfect, the name itself made me smile! People have often described me as "Random" and it just fits. I love everything from sports to crafting - hanging out with a crowd to a tranquil peaceful day alone. Seeing as I have 3 children the day alone is a rarity. I absolutely love music. My Ipod is filled with everything from Pop, Opera, Jazz, Blues, Rock, Alternative, Hip Hop, Oldies, Metal and Country (reminder of my description: Random). My favorite Hobby is reading and much like my taste in music, I read all genres of books. I am a firm believer that if you don't feed your mind and imagination you will lose it. So I read anything from text books to romance novels, mysteries to self help. I do however have a soft spot for history and mythology studies.
If any of you have suggestions on reading (maybe a favorite book of yours) please let me know. This group sounds like it will be fun!

message 106: by Buffy (new)

Buffy Kennedy Hello! I'm new here and I suck at keeping up with reading in a book club, but I make some attempt at least and like at least seeing the convos even if I can't yet participate. I'm 26, married to my high school sweetie, and trying to be an author. I'm doing NaNoWriMo so I apologize if I'm especially quiet. Nice to meet everyone :-)

message 107: by Cristina (new)

Cristina MR (cristymr) Hello!! my name is Cristina, I'm 26, I'm from Mexico, I'm a teacher and I have a bachelor degree in languages. I read mostly romance, fantasy, classics, mystery and historical genres, but I'm open to any of your suggestions, I'll try to keep up with the reading in the group.

message 108: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 1 comments My name is Rebecca. At the moment I am 21 years old. I usually read a set amount of genres, but am trying to get out of the comfort zone and dive into new ones. Manga, Fantasy, Thrillers, Mystery, Fiction, Memoirs are in my top genres.

message 109: by Renee Lawrence (new)

Renee Lawrence Hi All. I have always wanted to join a book club and share my love of reading with others. However, I usually have a very long list of what I would like to read already lined up and something always seems to get in the way of me joining a club. So I have decided to bite the bullet and try this to see how it works out.

I am currently following along with the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. Although I am behind the group schedule I am quite enjoying the opportunity to read all you comments about the books. Fantasy is not really my forte but I think it is slowly becoming so. I first got hooked on this series through the TV show and I am now coming to love what I have read of the books very much.

Typically, I read mostly fiction, horror, true crime, biography, history, and humanitarian books. But I am looking forward to broadening my horizons. I am a little busier these days and don't find quite as much time for reading. Although I do really enjoy it and I am always looking for something new to read.

I am looking forward to getting to know all of you and hopefully learning a little more about the world of literature.

Dione Sage | 16 comments Lauren wrote: "HIIII! Welcome to the group! what kinds of crafts do you do? "

I like to do all kinds of crafts. Looping (knitting), wood work, mod podge is like a staple in my craft room and I get several of my ideas from Pinterest. I guess you could say I like to dabble in all kinds of crafts. I get antsy if I don't have something to do. Crafts, baking, reading, writing, studying, spending time with my kids, family and friends...and the list goes on. I believe my constant need for change is the reason I love reading so much. There is always new scenery and new plots when I open a book.

message 126: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Stultz (wicketwillowbean) | 1 comments My name is Elizabeth and I'm 24 years old. I live in Kentucky (Louisville, to be precise). I have a BA in psychology and did two minors in English with a concentration in literature and Medieval Studies. I studied French for 5 years and have experience with Japanese, German, and Latin. One of my dreams is to translate Medieval Latin and French manuscripts. The other is to eventually become an archaeologist.

Currently, I work with toddlers as a teacher in a daycare. It's not exactly my dream job, or the best use of my degree, but it works for now. I am going back to school in August to work towards a degree in education so that I can become a third grade teacher. I also plan on doing another major in either microbiology or anthropology. I do enjoy some aspects of my job such as being able to teach my children and the joy that I receive when they finally catch on to what I've taught them. I also enjoy the smiles, hugs, and kisses that I get from my kids when I come to work in the mornings.

I am an avid reader and have been since I was a child. I generally read anything except westerns, romance, and inspirational/Christian books. I quite enjoy horror, fantasy, historical fiction, and mysteries. I have also gotten into the Quirk classics recently. Right now, I am reading Android Karenina. Classic literature is another favorite of mine with Edgar Allan Poe, Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, HP Lovecraft, Victor Hugo, and Gaston LeRoux being among my favorites.

I look forward to making new friends and taking part in book discussions.

-Elizabeth

S.J. Brown | 4 comments Hello and welcome to all the newcomers. Hope you enjoy the group. I don't visit as often as I would like, but I enjoy catching up on what everyone is reading. I am reading Flowertown at the moment. It is not the type of book I would normally read, but the author is a nice person so I had to buy her book. So far it is pretty good and I would recommend it.

Jim Vuksic Hi! I'm Jim.

I have an eclectic taste in reading - any genre as long as it is well-written and entertaining.

A cursory review of the other members' profiles reveals that, quite possibly, I am now the oldest member of this group; in fact, I have furniture older than most of you. But I'm pretty sure that I can keep up.

Looking forward to becoming acquainted and sharing ideas and suggestions.

message 137: by Ryn (new)

Ryn | 2 comments Hi guys! I'm Rebecca and I read anything and almost everything under the sun, with the exception of anything with numbers and words I cannot pronounce much more spell...scientific terms in particular lol. I'm not big on books with too much hype on them either (Twilight trilogy and 50 Shades comes to mind on that-no offence to those who do like them though) simply because I tend to expect much only for it to fall short. I have always enjoyed humour, suspense, mystery, romance once in a while, classics, history and graphic novels (including Archie's and manga- Japanese comics) especially though; but I'm open to anything and even try to plough through a book no matter how much of a struggle it can get (guess I got that habit from those "required" reading I had to do when I was younger and my grade depended on the book report that followed it lol). Btw, I have never joined anything like this so please be patient as I try to learn how things work. But I will catch up...just don't use any medical or mathematical terms pls :)

message 138: by emily_oriley (new)

emily_oriley @Ryn -it's funny: as a kid whenever I had a book report or whatever I wouldn't open that thing until the night before it was due or I'd read three chapters and fake like I'd read the whole thing. And yet now as an adult -when reading is now PURELY for pleasure - I will force myself to read books and/or book series that I absolutely LOATHE whilst cursing the heavens that such a thing was ever crafted when I should just calmly put it down and select another one. Curse you Adult OCD! >.<

message 139: by Ryn (new)

Ryn | 2 comments @emiy_oriley...actually, when I start feeling like my brain would go on a coma, I start asking my friends to first tell me the gist then make them show me what they wrote (plagiarism is not uncommon then lol)...but I normally end up trying to finish the book once I've submitted the report (I had an anal teacher who would actually ask us in detail just to check if we didn't read the synopsis lol). But now, as an adult, I deal with the pain of reading a really boring book with reading another one as a breather...unless I really can't go through it without fear of a permanent brain freeze then in that extreme case, I ask a good friend to read it for me then she tells me what it's about (a really good friend indeed lol).

message 140: by emily_oriley (new)

emily_oriley @Ryn- I never plagiarized (and I'm not just saying that 'cause I'm a writer and that would look mighty suspect >.> ) However, when I noticed I was getting the same grade for my 5pg essay as the kid who turned in half a sheet, double spaced, 14pt font, giant calligraphy heading, I did a little experiment. I did a report on the book Guilty Pleasures which is the name of a hardcore vampire BDSM strip club -a fact that I did NOT hide in my report. I figured that would warrant a parental phone call (this was 7th or 8th grade) but all I got was a "Good Job" smiley face check plus. At that point I stopped trying.

S.A. Chapman | 1 comments Hi Folks!

Simon here. Wholy unsuccessful yet persistent Epic Fantasy author!

I'm a big fan of rich and complex fantasy/sci-fi - worlds where I can escape to, where the issues of the protagonist/a outweigh the BS of my day to day workload! Worlds with issues and people, where I can happily say, "Damn, I am glad I'm not that guy/girl/thing!"

I still feel that Dune is probably my go-to book as a favourite. And the Silmarillion.

Also, I shall say with as little shame as possible, that I am scrounging for reviewers/raters/trolls/haters to read my accursed tome! I have great reviews from the likes of Kirkus, but it means squat when it comes to real people actually reading it, discussing it, etc!

I look forwarding to discussing all matters of the weird and mundane with you!
