Diana | 9 comments All I remember is that a guy is at his house, he's really nervous. He hears things around his house. I think he killed somebody and is now imagining the ghost of the person or something. The book goes on to describe in detail his increasing heart rate. I think the narrator is Death. This is just one of the people Death 'visits.'It's not "The Book Thief." The title sounded like "Tall Tales" or something like that.

The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe is a short story that sounds a lot like the story you described. The narrator isn't death, though; it's the nervous guy. This is usually collected with other Poe stories, with eerie themes.

Sounds a little bit like The Whisperer in Darkness by H.P. Lovecraft.
