Good Job!! :D

Here's my review for this week's shelf:

Book: Ecstasy Unveiled by Larissa Ione
Shelf: Urban Fantasy
Finished: October 2
Rating: 4.5 Stars
Review: Solid storytelling, strong characterization and an irresistible romance - Ecstasy Unveiled is definitely my favorite in the series so far.
Ione is brilliant at balancing complex and multi-faceted storylines although there are one or two questions that remain unanswered, for example: (view spoiler)
As expected, the characters are well-developed and engaging. Lore is the tortured hero that Wraith should have been. Don't get me wrong, Wraith is an amazing hero but his personality seemed toned down in Passion Unleashed, which was disappointing.
Lore is in an extremely difficult situation - torn between betraying his newly discovered brothers and saving his sister's life, and his internal struggle exposes the guilt and loneliness concealed by his harsh, caustic and cynical exterior.
Idess, with her guilty secrets and battle hardened skills, is a compelling mix of strength and vulnerability - a far cry from your typical timid, goody-two-shoes angelic character. She and Lore have a sensual and sexy relationship but their bond is also tender and emotional, and they compliment each other so well.
The secondary characters are entertaining - the three villains each have their own agenda and finding out what happens with them keeps you turning the pages. The conflict between Lore and his brothers is realistic although Shade's obnoxious behavior merely reinforced my dislike of him in book #2.
Sin and Con are intriguing together and the lead in to their book is very titillating - looking forward to the next and final installment in the series.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

I had to take a little UF break, going from dark UF to another had me out of my reading groove, so I finished up a little fluff read last night and today I'm back on track and liking Sabina 4 so far...

So far this is my favorite book in the series.
The 7th book in the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series.
Anita Blake trying her best to solve crimes, protect everyone and fight her inner demons, plus the vampire she loves and the werewolf she wants to stop loving. (or does she??) With arsonists in the city, Humans First trying to kill everyone and the big bad Vampire Council in town there is enough power struggles, blood and pain to make any normal person run for the hills.
But not our little Anita! She stands her ground and protects the people she loves and wereleopards she barely knows. Struggling with the lure of the pack and drawn to family, a furry family but a family none the less. Can she give it all up and allow Richard to find a new Lupa? To be continued…….

Mine is slow going. I loved Sandman Slim, but this second book is not doing it for me yet. I'm having to force myself to read a little bit every day. I hit page 260 yesterday and it is finally starting to pick up.

Urban Fantasy Shelf:

Review:
Overall, this was a 3.5 star read for me. I really enjoyed Sandman Slim, but I found Kill the Dead a little bit lacking. The beginning half was really slow for me and just didn't make me want to pick up the book. I give the first part 3 stars. I pressed on and around the 200 page mark, the story picked up and everything started falling into place. I would give the second half of the book 4 stars.
Stark has come back from hell and gotten revenge on those who wronged him, so what does he do now? Well, he starts doing odd jobs for the Vigil and playing bodyguard for Lucifer. Some strange things begin happening and Stark is able to put the clues together just in time for L.A. to become a living hell.... literally!
I really like Stark's character. He's a little bit lost but a whole bunch of badass. The parts were he started to feel more angle than human were interesting and I'm wondering if they will have continuing repercussions on his personality in the future. I think big things are in store for him in the next book so I am in, but I hope the buildup doesn't take as long next time.

Lis - I hope yours picks up! :)
Tiffanie- I loved that one too! :)
Lauren- great review! :)
Ladies, I am heading out of town for the weekend. We are traveling to Slovenia to see Lake Bled. However, I will take a couple of books with me... the one I am reading and a couple that will hopefully fit the shelf announcement on Sunday. However, if they don't no worries as I'll be back Sunday late afternoon anyways (my time).
Have a great weekend ladies!

Read : Tangle of Need by Nalini Singh ★★★★★
Date Finished :10/5/12
I absolutely LOVE Nalini Singh's books. I was not super excited about this book going in because Adria and Riaz were not my favorite characters. But as usual Nalini Singh pulls you in has you rooting for this couple. I really liked that Riaz and Adria had to work for their unconventional Changling HEA. I also was very pleased that Hawke and Sienna's relationship continues to develop and was really very sweet.
The only problem I have now is...when do we get the next book? 2013 UGH!

I just finished Kiss of Snow and loved, loved, loved it. I was a bit wary about reading Riaz and Adria's book because we know so little about them - they have had such small roles. However, I'm more excited about reading it now that I've read your review.

What an emotionally packed book! This was a little bit of a slow starter as Sabina is back in NY trying to adjust to both her Mage and Vamp natures. She is also dealing with all the relationships in her life now, she is no longer a solo gal out on her own. She is learning more about her Mage gifts and finding that the Cthonic gift just keeps on giving. We also get to see more of the friends from New Orleans as Pussy Willow is now fully into "her" new persona and singing at Slade's club. Also Mac and Georgia visit along with Erron and his band are in town with a final concert to wrap their latest tour. The Vamps are also I town and so is a new string of murders that Sabina's team are assigned to help solve before the races meet. The second half of the book goes into full action and is packed with layers and layers emotion. It made me cry!

The reviews for this series are really positive, it has been on my shelf for awhile and I am on a Nalini Singh kick.

@Cathy- the Archangels is my fav Singh series, I hope you enjoy. And it gets better as it goes.
@Lauren- been wanting to try the Protectorate series, anxious to see what you think. Might have to bump it up.
Somehow I skipped obsidian butterfly, I must have thought it was more Edward focused. Hmmm.
I think I'm sticking with

Lauren - I'll be interested to see your opinion on this one.
Cathy - I've always wanted to read that series and have it on my TBR list, but just haven't yet.
Tiffanie - Ha! You are on a roll!! :) Congrats! :)
Lis - I really wanted to read your review... but I can't so I won't! lol ;-)
We are back from Slovenia. We visited Lake Bled and it was really beautiful. We crammed so much into a day pretty much and now I'm pooped. Not quite finished with My Alex Crane book but I will be hopefully tomorrow! :)

I'll be reading

Wow what a wild ride! This was the best one in the series thus far! Such an emotional roller coaster with Death but I'm thrilled what happened with them..and a little sad....and now Falin is moving in....what in the world is going to happen with that? I loved that not only do you have the main story going on but you also have all of the personal issues with Alex coming to a head as well.... fantastic! I can't read to read the follow-on.

Book: Soulless by Gail Carriger
Shelf: Vampires
Finished: October 8
Rating: 4 Stars
Review: Original premise and intelligent execution.
The humorous style, old-fashioned prose and sarcastic wit of the characters are fantastic. The steampunk elements are somewhat incongruent with the paranormal tone but are enjoyable nonetheless.
The mystery is compelling and the tension builds nicely toward the climax although the villains are a tad too obvious.
The characters and the dialogue are the heart of the book. Alexia is a complex and dynamic heroine who represents the conflicts in Victorian society. On the one hand, she is a misfit with her intelligence and sharp tongue but on the other, she also reflects the social norms and constraints of Victorian times. Her chemistry and banter with the gruff and tough Lord Maccon is particularly engaging.
The rest of the cast is also well developed from the spiteful half-sisters and social climbing mother to the bookish Beta werewolf and the foppish yet worldly vampire.
My one small nitpick is with the title "soulless" and it's meaning. It is evident that Alexia's lack of soul makes her preternatural. However, the notion inherent in soullessness is that a person with no soul has no morals and lacks the ability to love. As this is definitely not the case with Alexia, why use the term "soulless" to classify her condition - unless the author is being ironic? If so, it is not at all clear.

Read: Nightwalker by Allyson James
Shelf: Vampires
Date: 10/9/12
Pages: 322
Rating: ★★★★✩
Review: Poor Janet never can catch much of a break at having a "normal" life. Her tenant in the basement, a Nightwalker (vampire) Ansel has slayers after him for the bounty his girlfriend's sister put on him for killing her. Problem is no one can locate the body and determine if she's really dead and Ansel can't remember what happened when he was all blood lusty. So Janet and Mick are checking it out which leads to counterfeit antiques, magical Indian artifacts, a cougar shifter, mages, dragons, a god and goddess and one heck of a storm. Oops I almost forgot all the really hawt dragon lovin' and healin', I really need to get me one of those guys! Great story, I really enjoy this series and Janet just gets more magically powerful with each book. Coyote is back and was a real treat in this one as well.

Anita owes Edward and he’s cashing in. Called in to help track down an unknown evil that scares the dark and twisted bounty hunter Edward, Anita finds herself knee deep in blood, body parts, Aztec gods and crazy bounty hunting sidekicks.
I really enjoyed this book. Not only did it let us readers see the hidden side to Edward aka Ted, but also got to see Anita star to wonder if shutting out her old life (and lovers) was a good decision or bad.
I’m also excited to see of Olaf makes a return appearance.

Read : Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh ★★★★★
Date Finished :10/13/12
Nalini Singh has done it again. Her books never fail to grab my attention and hold it. I have had The Guild Hunter series on my shelf for quite awhile and I am not sure what took me so long to start this series. Singh has created a fascinating world of Angels, Vampires and Hunters. This book is action packed and filled with sexual tension. If you are looking for a different spin on angels and vampires I would definitely recommend this book.

I have been reading lots of UF and PNR recently. So I thought I would go with something else this time. I recently read my first Kristin Ashley book and am looking forward to this one.

Review:
This book was so much fun! It was lighter in tone than Seanan McGuire's October Daye series, but it still had her trademark wit and complicated mysteries.
Verity is a monster hunter a la Buffy Summers, but don't think this is a knock off of the TV show. Verity combines her butt kicking with some serious study; she's a cryptozoologist. She's also a professional ballroom dancer and it was very interesting to see how she combined the two worlds. She had a great voice and I really enjoyed learning about her.
The side characters were all wonderful. Just like in the Toby Daye series, Verity has a whole slew of blood- and not-so-blood related family members. She also shares her apartment with a flock of deeply religious mice, very very funny. I didn't like Dominic very much at the beginning but I was on the team by the end. All the cryptids in the book were fascinating and I hope we learn about more new species in each book.
I will definitely be picking up the second book in this series. This just solidified Seanan McGuire as one of the top writers in the UF game at this time.

Oops, forgot my linky. It's Discount Armageddon. :)

Review:
The third book in this series picks up with Sabina and team searching for her sister Macie in New Orleans. I whole new threat comes to "life" and a whole new cast of characters is introduced with sweet revenge being the topping on the cake.
I really enjoyed the new cast of characters... I loved that they came flawed with their own set of issues.
How bitter sweet that Sabina and Macie got their revenge, but at what cost to Macie... this is going to do some serious stuff to her.
We have a new threat on the horizon.. a very serious threat and allies are not what they seem.
I can't wait to read the fourth book... There is so much going down!
