R6: Team #3 ~ Triple Dog Dare Ya

Patricia Briggs is my absolute favourite writer when it comes to werewolves. The way she disects animal behaviour (survival instinct, fight/flight response, dominant and submissive behaviour, etc.) is something I admire in both the Mercy Thompson and the Alpha & Omega book series. I love the characters and the way she portrays relationships. With a lot of werewolf books you get the "fated-to-be-mated" angle which is entertaining enough but these books seem to me to have a lot more substance to them.
I'm not going to go into detail about "Iron Kissed", the third installment, but needless to say, coyotes, werewolves, vampires and fae make for one hell of a ride.
One scene, and those who have read the book probably know which one I mean, always brings me to tears. I like the way Patricia Briggs managed to make Mercy, who is really one of the more tougher women of the UF/PRN world (not as tough as Kate Daniels but then who is), deal with her insecurities.
I'm sort of saving these books to last me until the seventh one comes out next year. :-)

Don't resist :-) It's really good.

Impossible to review without spoiling it. I'm sad the series is over but it ended o..."
Is the entire series worth reading? I've read "Bitten" and loved it. Clay and Elena are one of my favourite couples. Are the others similar (aka do the women run and the men chase :-)?)

"The Renfield Syndrome" picks up right after the massive cliffhanger from the previous book and throws us into a dark and gritty world. As I don't want to spoil the story for anyone, I won't go into too much detail, and just say that I loved it even more than the first instalment.
Rhiannon is still a great narrator and I enjoy her sassy voice guiding us through the story. I loved the main guy in this one, and am hoping to see much more of him in future instalments. Dark, brooding, tortured and sexy. What could you want more?
This time round I was hooked from page 1 and didn't want to put the book down at all.

Which was your last one? I still can't get around to reading "Lover Reborn". I'm just really waiting for Qhuinn and Blay.

I'm ready for new shelf and am in a slump.
I just had Lover Revealed download from library and just returned without reading. I wasn't even in skimming mood 'cause Bruce and Marisa just so woe-is-me. Read Driving Mr. Dead which is too short for BINGO but had some truly silly moments making for a fun quick read right before attempting so that could be part of the problem.
Also trying to get thru some anthologies I got for favorite author contributions (I know better as usually don't care for short stories but thought I could take one at a time). I need a break.
I don't blog so don't get authors asking me to read stuff usually, but, a friend has a new YA Fantasy/paranormal and begged a beta read over my "I loathe most YA objections" — let's just say they captured teenage angst perfectly and at just forced self past halfway point the fantasy/PNR elements not there and desperately want out of the chick's head (actually might sell tho 'cause has teen not in popular circle, loses single parent so goes to live with stranger parent to attend new school with two hot guys [*sniff* smells the love triangle coming], and there is possibly something odd or mysterious...). I'm hoping to get by with some copyediting remarks and just saying "definitely YA; maybe you need to think about what will become the sample readers will download to checkout unfamiliar author." (Translation: this is boring without any PNR/fantasy and nowhere resembles what you promised me had fairytale elements.)
Have some regular SF and lengthy epic fantasy things been wanting to read but have been putting off because will either really suck (particularly if bunch of ethnically mixed characters questing about imaginary author map and not much else to plot or characters just going from one battle to another) or be so good will not want to read Saturday's shelf or anything until not only read but next in series bought and read ...
What to do, what to do...

I'm in a slump too. I've started stuff, but can't seem to go on.
Now I've actually started reading slashfiction for TV shows I've never even seen (or heard of). I need help! And a new shelf.

Neither of which really reading exactly; but, should get me out of my slump and at least do something good.

Haha. She only wanted to know "what all the fuss was about" :-D

Likely those of us over 40 don't get the fuss/hype as we've read better and worse both in terms of the writing and in the amount of BDSM. Definitely a love it or hate it reaction to series for most readers.
To be fair, well, here we are talking about it again. And it truly is a rabid example about the power of social sites/media (including goodreads).
I was confused into thinking it was a paranormal/UF book as I initially missed all the hype when I tried to read (even initially missed all the fanfiction tie in stuff as I don't normally pay attention to that either). Then when I tried to read it immediately reminded me of every heroine and style of writing I loathed in the 1970s. It was just unoriginal and uninteresting to me so I've never finished. I did not care for the writing style at all.
And now the book ads that are springing up touting themselves as the next to read after Fifty Shades...think that's sticking around for a while like all the "if you are a fan of Tolkien" fantasy genre ads.

It's like E.L.James invented BDSM. :-D Erotica has been around for a lot longer than that.
I've only read the first one so far. I really don't mind stalkerish behaviour in a hero but come on. I don't know, maybe I will read on maybe I won't.

Haha. She only wanted to know "what all the fuss was about..."
LMAO! I read all 3 but Christian didn't sweep me off my feet like he did everyone else. I like an alpha male and the arrogant quality but he was too much of a control freak IMO.

★★★
It was ok. Some parts were a tad bit boring. Other bits I found myself a little lost. Lord Akeldama was by far my favorite character. The science talk kept my interest the best. Will I read the rest, maybe at some point, but they arent on the top of my list.

Good Job!! :D

Remember, no rule against more than one team member reading same book.

If I don't quickly get into, backups are:

@Deborah, I read Under Wraps a while ago, and remember it was a quick read with one of the most clueless heroines I've come across!
@Jenne, Magic Strikes is still my favourite book of the series.
But finally to my own shelf choice. I'll read

My Review:
Impossible to review without spoiling it. I'm sad the series is over but it ended on a good note and the final showdown was good. In this one all of our favorite characters from the series have a role. A lot of the things in previous books I can now see where always leading up to this book.
