I haven't read; here's hoping the scene that shocked you did not involve self or pet mutilation!

@ Jennifer that's where I'm at with Demonica I need to get back to that series.
@ Steph it's been recommended to me this month. I'm really liking it so far. Reminds me of Charley Davidson.
And for all of us woohoo after Demon & Dark Fantasy stamps we'll have 2 four in a rows. I think on the discussion thread yesterday it's a 44% chance of a game ending call next week.

My Review:
4.25 fans of Charley Davidson ought to like this. Raylene is a vampire for hire as a professional thief. Ian hires her to track down his medical records from when the government held him captive for experiments. She investigates project bloodshot which leads to all sorts of secrets and mysteries. She meets an ex navy seal who's a drag queen who's sister was also taken by the government and he aids I'm her investigation. He was a great sidekick. The men in black get hot on her heels and start breaking into her homes. This was a funny, quirky book with great characters. Will definitely continue with the series!

Not being overly excited by most YA paranormals, I was pleasantly surprised by this book.
It's the story of Cas, teenager and ghost-hunter and Anna, murderous ghost. There was a lot of violence and gore and interesting main characters. The story wasn't actually scary, but had a nice dark atmosphere throughout, that I really enjoyed. I couldn't put down the book for the first half, I was so drawn in, but it seemed to loose some steam towards the end. There was a certain point at which I thought the book could have ended, but we headed on towards another climax.
All up, I really enjoyed this book and will read #2 for sure.
Well, a new story in Hollows series exclusive to new Sony ereader app for iPad (exclusive for limited time); author put link to install with story preloaded in her book description at http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16...
Come on team! Read, read , read we need our demon and dark fantasy stamp before the next shelf so well have 2 four in a rows. :) just channeling my inner cheerleader lol
Whew! I had an unexpectedly busy day with a husband on vacation added in. Voting, of course, health insurance that has me going to a dozen different places for different tests (no big health scares or anythng exotic, just a foot inury followup), vacationing husband moved the stepstool in the kitchen causing a running, overexcited kitty to launch and miss their usual perch (we still have not heard the end of that one) so they are now needy and clingy (kitty not the husband)… I may have to sneak back up after everyone is asleep to get some reading done. Hopefully we can have two stamp requests in before next Saturday shelf call?
Halfway thru so likely done and reviewed tomorrow. Lots happening but nothing really going anywhere. For a chick with all these powers, sure doesn't manage much least of all catching a clue.

Finally. A couple in the Demonica series I can get behind. I started out reading this series because the demon aspect sounded interesting and definetely different from other paranormal romances. I love the storylines so far, adore the brothers and the worldbuilding is quite intricate and unique. However. The female leads so far, especially Runa from the second book were so annoying at times that I had to force myself to keep on reading. I have a huge issue with the second book in the series and those of you who have read it might know what I'm talking about. I won't spoil it but I have to say I read paranormal for a reason. Namely the HEA. But also the total devotion between the two protagonists and I don't really like my males undecided. I know it's sappy, but that's how it is. Anyway, while Runa made me want to slap her Serena was a wonderful heroine. Equal part vulnerability and strength. Not too kick-ass but no freaking doormat either.
Sorry about the mysterious bit about
. I had to rant a bit without spoiling anything.

Review: This was a real mess. Okay, I still like the Cassie character and other characters in series and there were some new tidbits revealed. Author has yet to get a good balance for me on Cassie's ability to teleport/shift and time-travel; seems awfully deus ex machina or deus ex saboteur plot conveniences on when she can and cannot rather than any good worldbuilding rules. For 90% of book was battle, battle, heated moments that went nowhere with different male leads in love triangle, battle, shift or fail to, battle, battle, shift or fail to ... rinse repeat. Book actually made me tired from all the fights and doubts about who was or wasn't ally. About 90% into the kindle edition some interesting bits and plot moved forward with some resolution (honestly if had not been for a goodreads group team challenge and I had already read past halfway point this might have become a "did-not-finish" book for me).
It could just have been the kindle edition I was reading, but part of that last 10% was taken up by what read more like something in the Dorina series she wrote (Cassie and Micea weren't in it but Dorina was) -- possibly that was a sneak peek that failed to get labeled as such.
Because there were interesting bits and I like the characters, did not give it a 1-star rating. I won't say I won't read on in series; but, it is one way, way down on my TBR pile. Admittedly, with my reading buddies all saying this third was the best in series and the one that hooked them -- I did have expectations -- I did have expectations. Okay, yes, at the end I did like that (view spoiler); but, by that time I was really too tired of all the back and forth to give a flying fig.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Been kinda quiet in here. With new shelf approaching and so close to getting stamps ... not wanting to nag ... but ...HOW'S EVERYONE DOING? WHERE ARE YOU IN BOOKS?
(LOL, ALLCAPS yelling intended. I am so ready for new shelf and to put in stamp requests).
And, yes, of course, I waited until after I posted my completed book to start nagging other people.
Yeah. About my earlier bitching about the Demonica series. I just read book 4 and 5 in a row. I am now officially addicted. I really can't complain anymore. They get better and better. Can't wait to start on the "Lords of Deliverance".
Im about half way through my demons book and havent started the other one yet. I finally went back to work last week, so having things to do has made me tired
Oh it is getting better and better. I also love the Jenks character. And finally a demon was involved, I was wondering where it was.
I am really missing Jenks while waiting for Ever After to be published. His role grows as series progresses; so does the demon stuff…bites mental tongue to avoid spoilers…dials back the Rachel/Ivy stuff, too.
Thats good to hear about the ivy/rachel stuff, because honestly that is kind of very very annoying. Probably the most annoying aspect about rachel right now I think.
Some stuff, particularly potential love/lust (and save me from angsty YA love triangles in particular), you just want resolved and stop caring how author finishes so long as it is over and you no longer have to read about. Ivy/Rachel and vampire/witch room mate considerations still rear up a few more times in series but levels off (in another book in series even gets interesting). One of the good things about The Hollows series is that Rachel does get to have 3D relationships that aren't all ally/enemy or just a cardboard love interest; almost all the characters surviving to next book get even more developed and draw you in further. Lots of discussions here at goodreads are about who reader wants certain characters to end up with. If series takes too long or main character waffles back and forth too much…I'm always "who cares...pick one or more already" (well except Anita Blake series; in that one I'm just rooting for just once since a few hints of lust in first couple of books for her to have sex because she wants to versus really being a good girl driven by supernatural means; no longer care who with, how many, what species, ...maybe without a multi-page description of a guy's eyes and definitely not underaged, in her case I'll even break my tentacle sex rule so maybe she could crossover into Merry Gentry territory...)
I am ready for shelf…come on PARANORMAL FANTASY! If YA Paranormal gets called, of course, please drop all the other shelf reads and pick quickest reads possible for shelf. Race mode!
I'm always of two minds about winning shelf because I want to win but it also means game over.

It took me a little bit to get into this book, but once I was into it, it really took off. I loved Jenks from the moment we met him in the book. He is hands down my favorite character at the moment. The Ivy/Rachel relationship was really grating on my nerves. I look forward to reading the rest of the books.

And, just to get in some advance whining -- looks like anything called next time that might let us win will put us in a race for another team!
I'm going for
Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh from page 16 of list. I liked her guild hunters series. If I can't get into, backups are Shadow Heir and Redshirts.
Unless I read the BINGO card wrong -- looks like getting our Dark Fantasy Shelf stamped is more help currently than the just called shelf. Anyone see differently?
No, you're right, the current shelf isn't all that helpful to us, and the Dark Fantasy shelf will give us another four in a row, once we get our demon stamp.I enjoyed Slave to Sensation by the way, though I still prefer her Guild Hunter series.
And just to let you know, I'm currently half way through Shadow Heir and it's incredibly boring (well, in my opinion at least).
The ones before Shadow Heir were okay; not the best or the worst but I got to read free via library ebook download in omnibus bundle and liked well enough. I have had Shadow Heir for a long time and just haven't felt the urge to start.
The guild hunter books are a lot better than the psi changeling books IMO. I'm having a hard time getting into my book :-/
@Jenne, I haven't read a lot of the Ilona Andrews team books; but, the On The Edge ne really started reminding me of the story pace you get in one of the old-fashioned Snow Queen or Brothers Grimm types of books. Sympathetic characters and okay worldbuilding; but, don't expect heavy romance/lust/sex or faster pacing as book goes along. What you are reading in the beginning is an indication of the rest of the book. I liked it well enough; haven't read any more though as blurbs didn't sound like continuing with same characters.Put off psi-changeling for a long time because blurbs and samples all read rather heavy on the romance, mates, etc. stuff that I am not always in the mood for.
Im just in a reading funk at the moment. I love Ilona Andrews books usually. I hear ya on the romance and whole fated to be mated. These last few months I have been so burned out on the PNR genre.
I havn't read any PRN in ages until I started with the Larissa Ione Demonica and Horsemen books. Now I can't seem to stop. I might need professional help.
My reading slumps happen when a story doesn't "flow"—where you can almost hear the editor, agent or publisher's marketing meeting that has an author shoe-horning in more or less sex, more or less violence and any number of things currently getting the hype and on bestselling lists. Whether belongs in story and whether or not author can write that style of thing (sometimes reads like they got someone else to write those parts).I do not do ARCs or beta reads any more (well, won't turn down a newly published release in series already following). I really tried with some newbie author offers and friend writing attempts—but a bad read just leaves me in such a slump.
