Martin | 10 comments As a new librarian I would appreciate some advice on book merging from more experienced users.

There is an issue with Slovak edition of The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami. This book was combined incorrectly:

Kronika vtáčika na kľúčik I.

The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle was published as a trilogy in Slovak (much like Japanese original) and this book is only the first part of it. It should have been combined with the following edition instead:

ねじまき鳥クロニクル (第1部) 泥棒かささぎ編 Nejimaki-dori Kuronikuru

Unfortunately, instead of separating and re-combining editions another user created a duplicate of this book:

Straka zlodejka

Since these editions (13262510 and 13607597) are exactly the same book (libarian note also says so) they should be merged and then recombined properly, but I'm not sure which one should be deleted (both are shelved less than five times).

Thank you for your advice.

Beth (bethjustbeth) | 1568 comments Separate out the first one, from where it's incorrectly combined, and combine it with its duplicate, only.

Then decide which one is more correct and complete. I keep the one with the isbn, and add any missing info, then delete the other. You always want to make sure you keep the isbn, whether you keep that edition, or move it over to the other.

I think I''ll keep the second one and move the ISBN from the incorrect edition there.

Thank you very much.

EDIT: Done
