I am finishing First Contact and plan to continue with The Rapture of the Nerds: A tale of the singularity, posthumanity, and awkward social situations and Trojan Horse: A Novel. It's been months since a read a Sword and laser pick. I think the speed of the discussions has made me lose interest. I am also reading comic books. Finished, From Hell and I am rereading Watchmen.

I finished Foundation and am just finishing The Black Prism by Brent Weeks. This was one of those books that sat on my shelf for a while and now I'm mad at myself for letting it go this long. Really liked it and am happy the 2nd book in the series comes out next week. Last week the used bookstore had a sale so I took advantage and came out with most of the Darkover novels by Marion Zimmer Bradley. I had read a few of them years ago and am interested to see if they still held up.
Add to that the new Steven Erikson book, The Forge of Darkness, coming out and my September is set.
Also listening to Some Kind Of Fairy Tale by Graham Joyce
I'm 100 pages from the end of Bring Up the Bodies! And have started rereading Cloud Atlas; going back and forth between print and audio depending on where I am. The audio is great, by the way, with narrators that switch when the story does.
I am just finishing up Altered Carbon which is a lot more fun than I thought it would be, and just started The Galton Case for the Classic Genre Fiction Club and Cthulhurotica for The Vaginal Fantasy Book Club. (Which is hella fun, fyi.)

Finished Foundation - didn't like itMy review http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
Picking up book 4 of the Old Man's War series Zoe's Tale as my new lunch time read.
I have tried to read Foundation multiple times over the years, and have never been able to finish it. Classic or not, it just isn't my cup of tea. I'm working on two books currently instead. I'm reading Caliban's War (I loved Leviathan Wakes). I'm also listening to the new Stephen Baxter's new Doctor Who novel Wheel of Ice.
Both are great reads so far.

Having read Foundation not long ago I'm taking this month to catch up on a few other series. The Bastard currently. Then I'll dive back into book 3 of the Dark Tower The Waste Lands, and see how far I get before next months pick.
I am rereading Best Served Cold in anticipation of Joe's next book. I liked it my first time through, but I am finding it even better rereading it. Monzza is really poping for me as a character in a way she did not in my first reading. I think I might even do a post on it later.I also have Devil Said Bang qued up and The Graveyard Book waiting for reading with my son.
Finished In the House of the Wicked. I enjoyed it. Nothing special unless you like the series though.
On to The Hunger Games to see what the fuss is about. I saw the movie and it mostly felt like a toned down version of Battle Royale. Of course I haven't read that book either. I've just seen the movie.

The movie pretty much emulates the tone of the book - ie less gritty and dark than you would expect from a book about 24 kids fighting to the death. So suitable for tweenies but also enjoyable for an older audience if you don't expect it to be too dark. I think Harry Potter was darker in the latter half.

Yea I don't expect the book to be any darker. I'm just hoping you get a better feel for the motivations of some of the characters. That can be harder to do in a movie compared to a book, especially when you have so many characters.
Honestly my expectations are low going in. I guess we'll see.
I think tone of Harry Potter did a good job in growing as Harry did. The later books were certainly much darker than the early ones, but then the situation was increasingly dire.

Catching back up on the Vorkosigan Saga. http://www.goodreads.com/series/40380...
Stopped around book 10, so picking up at Komarr
Also still reading all of the Shannara prequels. Finally made it to First King of Shannara
Last, reading the only Joe Abercrombie book that I have not read, The Heroes
I'm half way though The Fuller Memorandum. I've discovered that Charles Stross' cthulhu mythos meets spy thriller Laundry Files series is the perfect brain candy to take my mind off work.
Finished Abercrombie's The Blade Itself. Loved it.My Review http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/....
Straight on to the next book in the series Before They Are Hanged
i just finished Divergent - really awsome book. And i LOVE the cover! I´m curious about the sequel :D
While on travel, I finished up Cloud Atlas and The Stand and started up Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? and Foundation. While at PAX I also picked up Penny Arcade Volume 4: Birds Are Weird so that I could have something to read on the plane during takeoff and landing. It was enjoyable. I've got a few other non-S&L books in my audio queue, short ones that are a break from my "typical" reads: Fun House: A John Ceepak Mystery, Leader of the Pack, and Tough Shit: Life Advice from a Fat, Lazy Slob Who Did Good. I'm having surgery at the end of the month and will be laid up and off work for most of October, so I'm expecting to get great use out of my iPad and Kindle. I was thinking about starting up Lord Valentine's Castle in audio but am instead contemplating picking up The Way of Kings...thinking that will take my mind off the hospital, etc.
I finished listening to The Fuller Memorandum yesterday. I can't decide what to listen to next! I have a gazillion audiobooks on my iPod.
I finished Foundation, and have decided to tackle my TBR pile before it takes over the bedroom. First up is Hull Zero Three, which I'm just barely into and am finding completely fascinating.
So many people have recommended The Lies of Locke Lamora to me in the last two months that I finally opened it up. Am absolutely loving it. Didn't expect to actually run into Lynch this weekend, and he was also a pleasure.

I just started The Naked and the Dead and so far it is gripping.I also just picked up Foundation but haven't read a word yet. I am excited to read it though.
AndrewP wrote: "I recently finished The Way of Kings on audio. Great book but, be warned, 45+ hours!"Well, I figure I just finished The Stand that was that long...plus, what else will I do while laid up? ;)
Having finished Hiero's Journey by Sterling E. Lanier I must inevitably read The Unforsaken Hiero next.
Finished The Hunger Games. It was alright. I'm sure I'll finish the trilogy at some point, but no real sense of urgency.
Picking up from last month, I'm moving on to the first book in the Liveship Traders Trilogy by Robin Hobb: Ship of Magic

I am currently reading Snow Crash. I have to admit I'm a bit disappointed. The characters are compelling and the story is interesting, but it all moves so fast. Sometimes I find it difficult to understand what's happening and the relationship between the characters feels really unexplained. The way they decided team up could seriously have been a half-assed explanation in a game of Shadowrun.

I really enjoyed Codex Alera though it peaks for me in book 4, but the last 2 are still good. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I am really enjoying it so far.
Susan wrote: "I am currently reading Furies of Calderon by Jim Butcher."The audiobook is on sale for $4.95 at Audible. I went ahead and bought it.
I've started listening to Last to Die by Tess Gerritsen. It's the latest Rizzoli and Isles mystery. I don't watch the show, but I've really gotten into the books.
Finished Foundation last weekend so i'm catching up on some of my long standing TBR'S. Currently reading We by Yevgeny Zamyatin and i'm going to try to get to Spin, This Perfect Day, and Altered Carbon

I just read Last to Die and really enjoyed it. I watch the show but I only read one of the books besides Last to Die.
I finished King of Thorns last week. Now I'm wrapping up Rage of the Dragon by Weis & Hickman then moving on to the 2nd book in Larry Correia's Grimnoir Series, Spellbound
Jenny & I just did a long podcast about new releases. Check out the notes. http://www.sffaudio.com/?p=42670

Ha glad somebody else does this. Every time I pack for a trip with my kindle and a paper book my friend just freaks out at the extra weight and space I take. But there's only so much staring out the window, especially when there is a delay.
Hope everything goes well with the surgery. Way of Kings was great.
I just started reading The Dresden Files this month and have become totally addicted. Devoured the first four in the series in under two weeks. I'm continuing on with the fifth, Death Masks, now and then switching gears with Caliban's War.
Just finished "Kill Decision" and enjoyed it. Had been looking for a science fiction book and started "Ender's Game" audiobook. Looks like I'm hooked into another series. Can anyone comment on whether it is better to read the series by publication date or by timeline in the story? I heard it jumps around a bit.

But you only have a little over 2 months to catch up before Cold Days comes out! :-D

For a small change in pace, I picked up Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie. Nothing like a good, classic mystery to solve!

Great series! It was my start into urban fantasy. It is definitely addictive. Perfect time to start too since the new book is out in November!
