Judith | 559 comments I have just finished Brotherhood in death by J D Robb, I always enjoy this series although I don't know why, They are easy to read it is true and Eve Dallas is a good heroine.

L.A. Kent | 99 comments I've just finished Mind Prey in my re-read of John Sandford's Davenport series. Really enjoyed it. Easy to read the whole series and I just gallop through them!!

Judith | 559 comments Love you Dead by Peter James, it was up to standard and tied off a few strands of the on going back story.

message 105: by Judith (new)

Judith | 559 comments Just finished the last of my Nevada Barr books, they were really good and I can recommend them. Her descriptions of the US National parks are very good.

Sandy | 499 comments So many good books listed in this thread.
Just finished Slow Horses (Slough House, #1) by Mick Herron . If you're a fan of smart, intricate plots & black humour, give this series a try. Great read.

Judith | 559 comments I have just finished the new Granchester mystery, Sidney Chambers and the Danger of Temptation by James Runcie, well up to the usual high standards.

Must write review, David. Glad you found it interesting.

Beth Stewart | 644 comments I have just slogged my way through Death in the Small Hours and I think the last few pages I actually skimmed over just to get to the end. I found the character (Lennox) to be quite tiresome; he is rich, so if he wants to be a detective and not a politician, then do so!

message 110: by Judith (new)

Judith | 559 comments I have just finished the new James Henry Blackwater, introducing D I Nick Lowry, I didn't enjoy it as much as his books about the early career of Frost.

Sandy | 499 comments Deity (Damen Brook, #3) by Steven Dunne

First time I've read this author & all I can say is wow. A twisty (and twisted) police procedural set in Derbyshire that is smart, full of compelling characters & messes with your head til the final page. Not the first in the series but enough background on the MC is given so you don't feel like you're missing something. Great read!

I love the Prey series. My only problem was that Sandford wrote faster than I read and I became confused as to which book to read next.
:) :) :)

Judith | 559 comments I like reading books about places I know. There was a series set in Portsmouth where my daughter lived, I can't remember the author, they were really good and I thought they would have made a good television series, my memory is terrible :-))). The main character loved bird watching from his house by the shore and committed suicide, the author carried on writing but set his books in Southampton, perhaps someone can tell me the name of the author, I would recognise it straight away. I am glad you enjoyed the James Henry Blackwater, I just didn't enjoy it as much as the Frost ones but I would read any of his books in the future.

Sandy | 499 comments Little Sister (Pieter Vos, #3) by David Hewson

Not quite as good as the first two but Amsterdam detective Pieter Vos remains a compelling character.

message 115: by Beth (new)

Beth Stewart | 644 comments Judith are you referring to graham Hurley books??? Joe faraday was the bird watching detective??

message 116: by Judith (new)

Judith | 559 comments Yes, thank you that was the series, they were really good. I really should write all these authors down in a little book, I have scraps of paper all over the place with book titles and authors written on them.

Sandy | 499 comments Livia Lone by Barry Eisler

Difficult to read at times but an absorbing story. Buckle up.

Judith | 559 comments Career of Evil by Robert Galbraith. I found this very readable and as good as the first two in the series.

Sandy | 499 comments Hell Bay (Barker & Llewelyn, #8) by Will Thomas

Book #8 missing a little something-something for me but if you're a big fan of traditional closed room mysteries (think Miss Marple or Hercule Poirot), give this a try.

Mary (broomemarygmailcom) Another Maeve Binchy book filled with stories within stories. Interesting characters with different histories intersecting at a large guesthouse on the western Ireland coast. This is an easy and satisfying read.

A Week in Winter

Been wondering about the series set in N. Ireland so picked up this short story prequel for $0.00 on amazon. Great little read.

Good solid read.

L.A. Kent | 99 comments Heartwood (Billy Bob Holland, #2) by James Lee Burke This was a re-read, having first read it two years ago. I enjoyed it very much, much more so than the first time according to the first review which I saw as I was completing the second! Don't know why, must have been something to do with the mood of the time.

Mary (broomemarygmailcom) End in Tears by Ruth Rendell

End in Tears by Ruth Rendell

I usually love Ruth Rendell mysteries and sometimes haunting stories but End In Tears should have been called Bored to Tears! Three-fourths though and I am done. She has changed the characters that I love to bit players and the new detectives are not holding my interest. None of the characters are sympathetic except the orphaned toddler. And sadly, I do not care that the two young women are dead.

Susan Davis | 148 comments I cant believe I'm going to write this but I stopped reading the latest Louise Penny book. This is a series I loved but this is so boring, full of words and no action. So disappointed.

Sandy | 499 comments I Know Who Did IT by Steve Mosby

If you like your thriller/police procedurals well written & creepy, give this a try. Should also mention that for some reason the hardcover is called The Reckoning on Cane Hill: A Novel.

Stephen Wagstaff (honestman28) | 2 comments Just finished reading The Lake District Murder by John Bude and I really enjoyed it, a really good classic English crime story.

Susan Davis | 148 comments I agree, very enjoyable.

message 134: by Beth (new)

Beth Stewart | 644 comments I read (as in listened to) the Anatomist's Apprentice. Will not be reading book two. The story dragged on and on, the plot was dull and what was supposed to be early forensic investigation was really results by stumbling across physical evidence. Glad it was a library book and not one I wasted money on.

Mary (broomemarygmailcom) The Mask by Owen West
The Mask by Dean Koontz
The writing and descriptions of characters, action, and the supernatural are all first rate. The first chapter had me holding my breath, disbelieving that I was actually feeling what the child was. Absolutely amazing and the second chapter did the same. Really loved this book...the story, setting, ambience, characters--all of it. It was spooky without being over the top. And, this is one where Koontz obviously took utmost care with each and every word.
