where is the actuaql clockwork angel from?

Tessas mother originally owned the necklace and when she died Tessas brother gave it to her, so far that's all we know. We don't know what it actually is, where it came from before Tessas mother I think all the secrets will be revealed in the next book

It's from her mother but it is so enigmatic! Why does it keep on saving Tessa. And why does Nate wanted Tessa to keep it. Cassandra Clare is such a clever mystery-maker! I'm dying to read the last book. When will it (clockwork princess) be released?

No. It was explained that Tessa's mum was a shadowhunter and Dad was a demon. That's how n one knows what to call her :)
The Necklace was her shadowhunter mothers'! :)

My own personal theory: I have come to the conclusion that the Clockwork Angel necklace is linked to her mortality. If that angel ever stops ticking, I think Tessa will become mortal. Perhaps, even if it stopped for a short time, she would be mortal enough to have a child?

Ultimately, I think it has been enchanted by her demon father and given to the shadowhunter mother who passed it on.

In fact, I'm re-reading the book where Clary goes into the institute to steal the fairy rings (last one, maybe?) and she sees a clockwork angel in one of the cases.

Perhaps Tessa put it there for safekeeping to ensure her immortality? After all, we know she was at the end of the other book, talking to Magnus, so she's still alive. Just a thought.
