Thanks Dee. Today - library is having their paperback sale this week so I took a couple dollars planning on splurging and of course having to zero out, but looking at the books they had, I either was not interested or I already had them. How bad is that. Well I thought it was funny anyways. :). Just wanted to share.
good for you debbie! I had to zero out because my fav author had a new book released and I had to get it...lol!!
That's happened to me before. I love running into Half-Price books when I have a free hour or two, but every once in a while I'll find absolutely nothing on my 'I-want-to-read-this' list. It makes me a little sad upon leaving.Of course, there are other times when I'm in the middle of a count-off challenge and find a book I've been hunting for. I end up talking myself out of buying it because I'm usually so far into the count that resetting at that stage is unthinkable. (To me, anyway.)
Luckily when my auto-buy came out, we were between challenges and I didn't have to zero - but I was prepared to do it today. Just didn' t have to. Haha. :)
me?tymber dalton's new book came out - cardinal's rule - i'd been waiting for it since she posted the excerpt on her website a few months back...plus lady isabella's scandelous marriage was released and I got beth williamson's new book last night
lol oh Christine, I feel the same way in the middle of these bigger page count challenges. I don't want to reset for anything. So, did you hide the book and go back for it later? haha.
lol...they are mostly erotic romance - TD and BW - the other one is a historical romance by Jennifer Ashley
:gasp: Lady Isabella came out?!? Where have I been, under a rock??Debbie, sometimes I wish I did. But no, I put them back where they belonged because I can't deny someone else a book they might want to read just as much as me.
Well see, now I am interested. lolI am going to finish my Janet Evanovich or at least work in that directon.
Have a great evening all.
Christine wrote: "...is Kate on vacation? There hasn't been an update post on everyone's status yet."I got busy and GRs failed to email me that there were new posts to this thread. gggrrr I dropped by to see why it was so quiet and found 26 new posts! lol
I will be on holiday of sorts starting the end of July for a few weeks. My fiance is flying in from England to visit. I'll be around occassionally but not as often as I usually am, so I will need some help then with the leaderboard for a couple weeks.
BJ is still on holiday and I'm sitting out this challenge until at least monday. This weekend is my library's annual sale. 76,000 books with paperbacks only 50 cents. I save up all year for this sale!Happy Birthday, America! Challenge Leaderboard

We're back from vacation and I'm reading again, but I also decided to take advantage of the reading break to buy some more books today, so I won't be counting the book I started yesterday on the trip home, which was also a purchase - I didn't have anything to read on the plane!

Back from the annual friends of the library booksale. Magazines are now 50 cents a pound, paperbacks and kids books 50¢ each, hardbacks $1 each and a few select hardbacks $3 each (if really new). I spent $46.30. I was hoping to come in under $50 and managed that nicely. I got some stuff I wanted, but didn't find as much as I'd hope to. If y'all want I can post a list of what I got.

Kate, congrats coming in under 50. Always like to find some good deals. I wouldn't mind know what you are planning on reading soon. but if you are adding them to your GR bookshelf, we could always head there ($46 sounds like a lot)

wow, great list - Sherlock Holmes cookbook hahaha, interesting. Looks like you got some great deals - again Congrats :)
Thanks Debbie. $46 doesn't sound so bad when you look at how much I got for it. I save up all year and it's the one time I splurge. I thought the Sherlock Holmes cookbook would be interesting. It's a cookbook full of recipes typical of 1895 London. Considering my fiance is british, I thought I might find a few recipes out of it and if nothing else, it should be interesting.
I get it, it caught my attention too and I have nothing tying me to England but plain old curiosity. Definitely a lot for the money .... so what are you reading first? that is always the hardest part for me after getting a whole bunch like that. haha, just teasing ya.
Debbie wrote: "I get it, it caught my attention too and I have nothing tying me to England but plain old curiosity. Definitely a lot for the money .... so what are you reading first? that is always the hardest ..."I have absolutely no idea! lol Right now, I'm just finishing up adding them to my virtual goodreads shelves (by clicking on links above, lol) and then sorting them and putting them away on the appropriate shelves in the house (by genre, etc.). I don't even know what The Kite Runner or Middlesex is about but have heard they are suppose to be really good and they were only 50 cents apiece so picked them up, but it's not like I'm rushing to read it immediately.
What I'm currently reading is an autobiography of/by Alan Alda called Never Have Your Dog Stuffed: And Other Things I've Learned. And yes, as a child they stuffed the family dog after it passed away. lol
Kite Runner is set in Afghanistan and supposed to be really good...it keeps showing up on my list of professional reading for the military (I guess i'll finally read it) and it was turned into a movie a few months back (oooh, maybe I shoudl do it for the books into movie challenge...hmmm)
Delicious Dee the book slut wrote: "Kite Runner is set in Afghanistan and supposed to be really good...it keeps showing up on my list of professional reading for the military (I guess i'll finally read it) and it was turned into a mo..."I've heard both Kite Runner and Middlesex are almost like modern classics. They've appeared on best seller lists and are frequently BOM choices. I figured for 50 cents I might as well pick them up. (Same for Water for Elephants earlier this year for ten cents).
