And stand-up comedy shows. I haven't watched any movies yet. Just a couple. I LOVE the unlimited online movies feature! I just got Smallville sea. 7, disc 1 in the mail. We have a warehouse in a city [San Bernardino about 2hrs from Hemet:] that's only 1-day shipping, so movies won't take that long to get to me. They have lots online but newer stuff seems to be DVD rental only [for now.
I borrow DVDs and VHS free from the library. From them I got old Gilligan's Island for my kids. (How come the Professor can fix anything, except the whole in the boat? lol). I watched the first two seasons of Northern Exposure recently.

The BIG 2500 What's this? Another mini challenge? Well somewhat. I love that this challenge is still going strong 16 months after the first post!
To commemorate the 2500th post [and reminders are appreciated, lol:]. I'll grant a book wish to the person who posts it.
Mac: I saw part of the Blind Side. I am a football movie/Bullock fan, but I am not scrambling to find a copy of the DVD and finish that movie. Movie-wise I like action 'blow **** up' type stuff or horror. And fantsy epics. Like Lord of the Rings or Pirates of the Caribbean.

And I admit to loving certain books made into movies like P&P and Persuasion (but only when I'm home alone). I get movies in the mail thru Zip.ca which is basically the same as Netflicks. Sitting on my DVD currently are Angels & Demons, Max Payne and Season 4 of the Closer
i couldn't get into angels and demons...there were too many differences from the book - three fairly important ones in the first 20 minutes...but then I loved the books and while I didn't mind the davinci code wasn't a complete fan of it in the movie theatre
As far as video game to movie remakes [can they be called remakes?:] I think DOOM was good! Keith Urban and The Rock...mmmm. And the action was pretty cool. I liked how they used the science of DOOM in there. Resident Evil, the whole series, has been good. I have never played the games but know of them b/c of their popularity. Silent Hill was a great remake. I don't like the survival horror games, but love some of the movies that come from them =D
Just finished Smallville Sea 7, disc 1. Tom Welling is still so cute after 7 seasons, wow!

Ashley, you aren't alone. ALOT of folks have been disappointed in that book. It feels like an in-between book. Dealing with the after affects of last book and setting up the next book. I will tell you it picks up at the end, so stick with it.

Sucks to have to wait another year! AAh!
After the huge disappointment of Dead and Gone, I think I'm ready for any lingering disappointment Dead in the Family will bring. I'm just interested in the parts with Eric, anyway. (Or, more specifically, Eric's parts.) :P

Does anyone have Bed of Roses in paperback form? I'm listening to it on audiobook, which is a first, and not sure how to "count the pages".
sorry, I only have it in kindle...how I normally do it...I look at the total page length and then divide it by the number of sections in the audio book - its not exact, but it gives you a pretty good estimate (i.e. the jd robb that i'm listening to is in 2 parts...so at the end of the first part, I posted my word count, by just dividing the total page numbers by two) - is that kosher with the guys in charge?Christine wrote: "Does anyone have Bed of Roses in paperback form? Goodreads lists the paperback for Bed of Roses as 358 pages. So go ahead and use that page count. If there is a page count for the paper version listed online, that's the page count to use for an ebook. If the book is only available in ebook format, it gets a little trickier. Others have taken a guess based on the number of page stops for a known book (say xxx # of page stops = xxx # of pages) and done the math to guesstimate it for the new ebook.
I was held hostage on an 18 hour roadtrip, which is why I'm now in between three books and one audiobook.May is for Mothers and Remembrance

18 hours on the road, Christine?! Hope you had some comfort stops in there!!I should be able to finish one of my books-in-progress before Christine reaches the goal!
OKay, I'm out. Couldn't resist a local thrift shop's bag sale. All you could fit into a plastic grocery bag for $5. I bought 48 Louis L'Amour westerns (20 of which I didn't have to nearly complete my collection, the rest I'll put up on PBS), 4 small cookbooks, and 3 VHS tapes (While you were sleeping, Fried Green Tomatoes, and The Secret Garden). All together, that works out to about 9 cents each.
Kate, I love While You Were Sleeping! I've probably watched it a dozen times - there's just something about the way it all plays out.

Hello everyone! I just wanted to share that I got the chance to meet Charlaine Harris at a book signing in Seattle last night. She was hilarious, down to earth and very cool! I wish I could have taken some pictures but I forgot my camera (typical me!). She had some pretty funny stories and answered questions from the audience. She mentioned the short story coming out in the anthology in August is a "Pam and Sookie road trip". And that next February they are releasing a Sookie companion guide that will have a novella including Quinn, a map of Bon Temps (drawn by Charlaine) and some Sookie-Universe related recipes (Chocolate Cake will be included!)She also mentioned in response to the "how many more books are you going to write" that she's under contract for 13 but will reevaluate within the next year if she needs to stretch that to finish her story, though she's a fierce believer in not just keeping something going past the point where the writing and story suffer.
I really hope she doesn't have to stretch her contract out to "finish her story". I'm liable to give up on the series before she finishes it up if it goes on for much longer. And Kate, I don't blame you. I wish shops around me had those kind of sales.
That's a really awesome story Ashely. I am glad you shared with us. Some great info!Kate: You made out like a bandit. I would have had trouble resisting if some of my wishlist faves were in my bookstore, while I work there =D
Being that it was a thrift shop, and a small one at that (in the basement of our local homeless shelter), the selection is fairly limited. However, I have gotten some really good books now and then. Someone unloaded about 60 Louis L'Amour westerns on them (I managed to get 48 stuffed into my bag!). I needed 20 of them, which should just about complete my collection. Ashley, sounds like you had a good time. I can't wait for more Sookie stories. A companion guide would be interesting. Looking forward to the Pam & Sookie story out this fall, even if it's short. I don't mind if there are 3 or possibly more in the series, as long as they are still good. I know this current one was sort of a transition book, but then again, I wouldn't have been happy if she had almost a non-existant recovery from the torture from last book and jumped back into too much this time. However, this story felt longer than it needed to be with filler added. I'm just assuming she used this book to have Sookie recover from last one and set up the next one.
Briansgirl "Master Book Sale Huntress" wrote: "Being that it was a thrift shop, and a small one at that (in the basement of our local homeless shelter), the selection is fairly limited. I still felt the tension because there are so many story lines that are on the precarious point of eruption, which will most likely come to head in the next book.
I think the craziest part of the signing last night was one a person stood up to ask a question and said..."Well I don't want to ruin book 9 for anyone but I just have to ask why did you kill *******??" (obviously I won't say what she said in case everyone here has not read it). But half the crowd screamed in protest and people were pretty upset. Who does that??
She could have phrased the question, without specifying who got killed. However, because she was so tactless, it was obviously someone who didn't care if she ruined it for others (who hadn't read that far yet).
Ashley I noticed you just finished the Book Thief, and I would like to know what you thought of it?? Or anyone else for that matter
Macwolf01 wrote: "Ashley I noticed you just finished the Book Thief, and I would like to know what you thought of it?? Or anyone else for that matter"It was incredible! I couldn't put it down. I rarely feel a book merits 5 stars, but this one gets it! You should definitely read it!
