Count Off Challenge
I feel like I read alot, but it's nothing compared to half of you. I started an odd book today which I picked up at the library.
The Accidental Vampire by Lynsay Sands.
Ever since an accident turned her into a knockout vamp, Elvi Black's been catching her z's in a coffin, staying out of the sun, and giving up garlic. She knows there's more to being undead than what she saw in Dracula, but she can't very well ask her mortal friends about proper biting etiquette. But when her neighbors placed a personal ad for her in the local paper, she never imagined she'd meet Victor Argeneau, a vampire who could have his pick of any womandead or alive.
question - would an leader of an irish clan and rebellion cound as an appointed official? the hero in Stormfire is one - he technically isn't the leader, but he is the defacto one since his brother is more into painting and the arts...
I'm thinking no Dee, because he isn't an elected official, which is what the bonus specified. But the one who created the bonus might say otherwise.
it was worth a try...i mean, he became it because the people didn't want his brother; or maybe it was his personality...lol! oh well!

It's fine as a stand alone but curious to see if the library has others in this series now.

I'm very motivated. This is the longest I've ever gone without either stopping at a Half-Price Books to just see what they have, or ordering something from Amazon.
You can feel doubly blessed then Christine because the last few challenges have had rather large rewards. Normally we don't get into double digits for used books you can buy for rewards. It's usually like 2 new or 4/5 used. So if you win this one, you can buy quite a few using up your reward books without resetting in the next challenge.

Just used some more of my credit for used copies of 3 books that I've been wanting:You Can't Hide by Karen Rose

well, i would say Christine is the odds on favorite to win...but can a dark horse come out of the woodwork?
Quite possibly Dee. All BJ Rose or Christine need is some bonus books to quickly catch up. I'll finish a 300 odd page book before I go to bed probably, but that still puts me behind you as it doesn't qualify for a bonus.
I still got about 6 hours of work to go...so should get some good reading in, but I still won't be able to catch Christine...lol!Briansgirl "Master Book Sale Huntress" wrote: "Quite possibly Dee. Guess it all depends on how much reading time Christine has soon. :) Maybe she'll be busy tomorrow. lol (Just teasing Christine)
Hah. I might be. I was busier than usual today, so I didn't get to read nearly as much as I wanted. And now the boyfriend's nagging at me to help him unpack things, so I don't know what's going to happen.

can i ask a quick clarification question - maybe its been asked before and I just didn't see it...Christine just finished the challenge and hasn't posted another one yet - but if she starts it this pm (on teh 28th), can anything i've read on the 28th count? or do I have to wait for her to post a new challenge? FYI - this might just be my brain not working at 4am either :)
We always start the next challenge immediately after the previous challenge was won. So there is always a count-off challenge running, we just don't know what the new one is yet. If you read something this morning, before she won, you cannot count it in the next challenge. It's like you count from where your bookmark is at the time she won to the end of the book after you finish. Obviously if you aren't online when she won, then you'd have to guess where you were. For example, I've been reading roughly a 320 page book. I've only got maybe 50 pages left or so. Even though I have not yet posted the first 280 pages of the book I've already read, I can't count it since it was read during the last challenge. I can only now count the last bit read after she won. Since we start the next challenge, after the last one... in the few hours after she posted she won before she posts the next challenge (starting same day) the pages you read during that time count towards the next challenge.
Does this answer your question?

Wow...April's almost gone. I read 4 books this month. Pity. But I've been stressed and the concentration is shot. I am still blessed though. I am not working and get to spend the day reading if I want. Ready for May challenges everyone???
I'm almost ready for those May challenges. Just need to get one or two more books. And after I posted that last page count, I immediately went to Amazon and pre-ordered the two new Lisa Kleypas books, Married By Morning and Love in the Afternoon, and bought used copies of Nerds Like It Hot by Vicki Lewis Thomspon and The Espressologist by Kristen Springer. So that's 2 new books and 2 used down.
May 1st is the day with 4 holidays rolled into one. There's May Day (i.e., the first day of summer), Law Day, Loyalty Day and International Workers' Day.I'm a math nerd, so I made the goal page count a long math problem because it was fun. Sorry.
Okay. Law Day became so in 1958 (2010-1958=52 years), Loyalty Day became so in 1921 (2010-1921=89 years) and Int'l Workers' Day is in commemoration of the Haymarket Massacre in 1886 (2010-1886=124 years), so I added those together and then multiplied by 5 (for it being the 5th month of the year and I felt I had to do something for May Day since there's no documented official start date) plus 4 (for it being 4 holidays in 1). The equation looks like this: (52+89+124)*(5+4)=2385 pages
May 1st 2010 Challenge

I expect this one to go by really fast since there are a ton of books dedicated to men in the military. Have fun!
Great challenge. I have the first three Virgin River books to read and book 2 and 3 have a military person in them, and book 3 has a lady prosecutor as well. lol Just need to finish a couple books to get to them.
yep - that's what i thought, but I wasn't sure and since I sometimes see people post stuff from overnight as soon as the new challenge is posted, I wanted to check, since most of my reading is done at night right nowBriansgirl "Master Book Sale Huntress" wrote: "We always start the next challenge immediately after the previous challenge was won. Kate: Actually if you've not counted the pages in an unfinished book you can count the pages in a new challenge. You can count them in the next challenge once u've finished the book. So something you've read 250/300, you can get full credit for once you have finished the book. The only time pages do not count is if they have been counted in any challenge as a partial count. This way your encouraged to finish books on your TBR pile. I did not know you had been counting pages this way. That is why the partial counts are used less often. It is easier to finish the whole book and count the total. Like you [or someone:] said before. Using partial counts to finish up the complete total is fine too.
Is there a simple way to say this? To add it to the guidelines? I want to keep things universal.
I've never counted pages that way Kenjii. Seems unfair to me that anything read, even if not counted, before the new challenge starts would be allowed and that's the way I thought the rules were. I try, honestly, never to use partial counts as I find it terribly confusing since we've had numerous discussions about it before. I only use a partial count if say I'm 20 pages from winning a challenge, then continue page count from 20 on, after I've finished it, in next challenge. Trying to count 20-50 pages at a time is confusing to me, (and too easy to mess up) so I only list a book once I complete it. To me, if the challenge starts today, anything read yesterday, counted or not, would not count as it was before this challenge date. So I won't count it.
Great new challenge Christine. I like how you came up with the total. I didn't even know about these dates.
