Yes, that would be my problem, too. I joined GR in 2008 and there are still books from that date on my TBR (no telling how old they really are!).
I joined, I think, in Jan 2009.... so quite a few all date from there. I had to create an "unread" shelf so that I didn't have 4k+ books on my TBR shelf, as I try to keep that around 50 or so books. Ones I'm actively wanting to get around to reading.
I joined in Jan 2010, so my TBR list isn't quite as large. Just over 400 books. =)
I joined in Feb 2009 and am still working on books I put on the TBR shelf then. If I had as many TBRs as you gals, tho, I'd have to get rid of some of my keepers, and that I refuse to do - I don't know where you put them!
Over 200 are e-books. I have so many ebooks I need to read, it's not funny.
I just got an ereader, so acquiring alot of old ebooks out of copyright that are public domain. However, I don't see myself rushing to read "The Grammer of English Grammer" or "War and Peace" on the ereader. lol (Part of the 100 free classics it came with.)
My kids are working on me to come further into the electronic world!
Let them gift you with an ereader then. lol Trouble for me with it is this... I can't afford to buy ebooks for it. So I'm stuck with public domain books like classics, or author free samples off smashwords, or wild rose press free novella's. Nice once I learned how to check out ebooks (and audiobooks) from my state's e-library.
Depending on the ereader, it could be tied to a site like Amazon (with the Kindle) or B&N (with the Nook), which they have actual ebooks that are free for a limited time on their sites. I have a Kindle and it has some public domain titles, but the majority are free reads I got from Amazon. I don't think I've bought an ebook yet.
Well, since I don't have a kindle (too expensive), all their free books don't do me any good. I do have the free Kindle for the pc program and a half dozen books from them I could read on it, but hate reading a full lenght novel on the pc. I've read 3 over 400 page ebooks that way and although the books were great, reading them that way was not.
I have my iPod and Audible, so I can carry 30 books in my pocket, and always have something to listen to when I'm waiting somewhere or doing boring, mindless chores. For now, I'm reading my ebooks on my computer, but haven't tried any full-length ones like Kate did. My daughter just got an iPad for her birthday from her hubby, and suggested I put one on my Christmas wishlist, so maybe...
It's an experience reading a full lenth novel on the pc. Hard on the eyes for starters, and your chair becomes uncomfortable after awhile. The only reason I did it was I really wanted to read the book and it was the only way available at the time. (Still is, unless you pay to print out a copy of your own, which later I did on lulu.com so my boys could read them easier and one has read the series.)
