He let her go once. This time he's playing for keeps.

"Colters' Legacy, Book 3"

Callie Colter once chased sunsets all over the world. Until Max. Together they were a perfect storm of desire, and she reveled in the beautiful power. Then he disappeared without a word, and the betrayal drove her home to lick her wounds.

Who knew he'd have the gall to show his face in her brother's bar.

Max Wilder figures he deserves Callie's right hook to the jaw, but it changes nothing. He had his reasons for pursuing her across Europe, for making her fall in love with him. But when she took everything he gave and offered "more, " she changed all the rules. He had no choice leaving her, but he's back. This time for the right reasons.

Callie is angry and hurt, yet powerless against Max's relentless onslaught. He'll settle for nothing less than her complete surrender-and her love. Only when she's back in his arms will he be truly happy. And the damning truth can stay safely tucked away.

Except the truth has a way of creeping to the surface, and Max may just be out of second chances.

Warning: This title contains adult language, explicit sex, rough sex, anal sex. In other words...sex Also contains themes of D/s which might offend some readers. Lots of angst, emotion and betrayal. Second chances and lots of warm fuzzies.

Pretty darn enjoyable for a book I didn't have a lot of high expectations for. I was a little wary about the whole D/s theme (not my favorite) of this story, so I wasn't so sure I'd like it. But I did! And I even teared up at the end (okay, not so unusual for me...but I was feelin' it!)

This story is about 23 year old Callie Colter, the pretty, blue-eyed brunette free-spirit of the Colter family. You know Callie's parents if you've read Colters' Woman, and you met her three brothers if you've read Colters' Lady. Callie isn't into the whole ménage thing like her parents and brothers, but she does have her own little kink that she's just realized--even though she's an independant, take no guff woman, she's a submissive in the bedroom. She found that out while she had a 3 week , red-hot romance with a man she considered her soul mate--the wealthy, dominant, green-eyed sexy bad-ass, Max Wilder. Max and Callie met in Europe, hung out in Italy and Greece and had a sizzling good time getting to know each other. Then Max unexpectedly got a call to come back home, asked Callie to wait for him...but then never came back. Or called her. Or contacted her. So Callie came back to her small Colorado home town and to her loving (but somewhat overprotective) family, forlorn and devastated...she thought Max was the one! So it's been a couple of months now, and Callie is working in her brother's bar, when who should show up looking for her? That's right, it's Max, with an explanation and an apology (and a secret that he'd like to keep a secret). Will Callie give him another chance, or has Max blown any chance that Callie could trust him again?

Max and Callie...
Photobucket

That's about the gist of this one. Max begs Callie to take him back and to give them another chance--there's a reason why he didn't contact her, and Callie wonders if she can trust him again. The fact that Callie is so irresistably attracted to Max makes her decision oh so easy...these two are combustible together. There's the whole D/s thing that they're into, and Max asks Callie to give him just a bit...more. Readers who enjoy those kinds of scenes are going to really love this part of the book. For me, that's not my favorite to read, but I must admit most of it was rather hot, and there was nothing degrading, painful or humiliating going on, and Callie seemed to really enjoy herself(!), so I was okay with it. Max was quite the dirty talking, forceful, dominant lover, and he did like things kind of rough...
Max's ground rules/house rules for Callie:

"When we are alone, whether in this apartment or elsewhere, you aren't to wear clothing unless I've said otherwise."

"I want you accessible to me at all times. If I want to f*** you in the kitchen, I want to be able to just lean you over the table and slide inside your sweet body."

"I might want you to suck my c*** while I eat after I've fed you. I prefer for you to be nude when that occurs."

"When we're in the living room, I want to be able to bend you over the arm of the couch and f*** you from behind. Or I might want to sit on the sofa and have you sit on my c***. The point is I want you accessible at all times. I want to be able to look at you whenever I want and touch you."

"You'll sleep in my bed every night. The last thing you'll feel before you go to sleep is me inside you. The first thing you'll feel when you wake up is me inside you."

Max...
Photobucket

Max's feelings on menage...:

"I'm not comfortable with sharing you. Ever. I'll take apart any son of a bitch I ever find in your bed and then I'll kick your pretty ass all over the country."

Okay, enough of this. You get the picture. Just when I thought this was going to be nothing but a sex-fest between a Dom and his sub, along came a story--and it hooked me. No spoilers here, but it involved a secret of Max's, something that Callie held dear to her heart, and a betrayal that devestated Callie's hopes and dreams. Even though I've read stories like this before (you know those secrets have a way of coming out at the wrong time), I still was involved enough with the characters that I felt Callie's pain---and later, Max's. And I teared up. Maya Banks's skill as a writer pulled me right into this story, and yeah, I was sniffing along right until the sweet, satisfying ending.

Sooo I can honestly say, if you enjoyed Colters' Woman and Colters' Lady, and you don't mind the D/s thing, you'll enjoy this one. You get to meet up with Callie's parents (Holly, Adam, Ethan and Ryan) and her brothers and sister-in-law/friend Lily--it was good to see them all again. Now just to nit-pick a little--I wish Ms. Banks would've given a bit more physical description of Max--other than his green eyes and lean but muscular build and the fact that he was "older' (how old?), I didn't have a clear picture of him. And...where was the epilogue? After all the drama, I needed one! Oh well, for a short story, I was still rather impressed. 4 1/2 stars

Warning: This book contains explicit, sometimes rough sex (including oral and anal); graphic language; and D/s elements. Not for the faint of heart!

Conversation That You Should Never Have With Your Dad :

Ryan picked up her wrist so that the silver bands gleamed in the moonlight. "And these? Are they a symbol of his ownership?"
Callie was silent for a long time. "Yes," she said quietly. "They are - were."
Ryan sighed. "I can't say I like to hear any of this. You're my little girl - will always be my little girl."

Really? Is nothing sacred between a man and a woman in the bedroom? I can tell you with 100% certainty that my father and I would never have the above conversation.

Then again, we are dealing with the family who likes to share their women with multiple men, which is part of why book 3 felt sort of out of place with this series. Even though I had a hard time buying that book 2 would follow the exact same pattern as the original Colters' book, I almost would expect for there to be at least a hint of the Colter gene happening with Callie, since they claimed genetics in book 2 - really. Apparently if the fathers want to share a woman, this means their sons will also!

Anyway, I'm just having a little fun here. Though I rated Daughter on the lower end, it was only because there was nothing that wowed me. I can't say that this was a bad book for the genre though. Everything was pretty standard sex-sex-sex erotica with not much plot, but that's not unexpected for the type of book that it is. The experimental ratio was somewhere between vanilla and kinky. This story would work fine as an intro to D/s. There wasn't really any pain play other than spanking, so the general idea revolved about a man having some fun making his woman submit in the bedroom - pretty tame stuff.

I ended up reading Daughter on a whim after I was cleaning out my old reader and saw that I'd loaded this on there and never read it. Now I'll delete the book and move on. I'm sort of confused as to why there is a Colters' 4 and even an upcoming 5.

Who would like this series? I don't know. The first 2 books are about women being steamrolled by 3 men at the same time. It's almost painfully embarrassing at times to see the amount of worship these men have for their women. This is truly a hardcore fantasy. If you've always secretly wanted to be treated like a goddess and could like the idea of 3 men bending over backwards to meet your every need, you might want to indulge in the fantasy. Otherwise, I'd say you're not missing much. There's better erotica out there.

First, I stayed up way the hell to late reading this. Second, I really don't like the Nook reading app for PC.

For anyone who has read the previous Colters' Legacy books, this is quite a departure. No multiple partners or no unbelievable "We magically fell for the same woman and are absolutely not squicked out by having almost-sex with each other even though we're brothers" here. Not that that bothered me in the other books. The other books were pretty damn hot in places. But the plausibility was way out there (though I'm still unclear why three guys who are brothers banging the same woman would be more unbelievable than three guys who are friends doing the same to me).

As we remember, due to the other characters constantly reminding us in the previous book, Callie had a Bad Thing happen to her and she was Very Upset and her free spirit was obviously bruised. Nice foreshadowing. Thanks for bitch slapping me with it. Now we get to see where all the gloom and doom came from.

I've been coming back to this review on and off all morning. It's taking me an age to write. I can't quite figure out how to explain why I liked it so much even though it made me uncomfortable some times. Here goes nothing, and I apologize for the possible randomness to follow.

As my friends here know, I read a lot of erotica. Probably a lot more than is strictly healthy, but that's a discussion for another time when the voddie's flowing and I'm in the mood for some good maudlin navel-gazing. Anyway. In all that hot, sweaty, smutty action, I've read about several kinds of relationships that intrigued me, that make me want to possibly try them one day.

But not this one. Why? Well, I'm pretty sure that being completely submissive in ALL aspects of a relationship, not just sexually, would chafe. Like, right away. And the caveman, knuckle-dragging, chest-beating, semen-marking hero of this book was waaaaaaay OTT for me for me most of the time. I had plenty of WTF moments reading this. Seriously, this cat could give Lora Leigh's alpha (and alphole) heroes lessons in dominance (or so it seemed at 2am when my eyes were crossing and I was struggling to stay lucid long enough to finish the book). While I like to read about strong men and a little bit of chest-beating sound yummy, this dude just wasn't tickling my buttons.

Neither was Callie. I didn't really buy her sudden willingness to let dude take over every freaking aspect of her life, but I've never been in a relationship remotely like that, so I can't really judge how she really should/would have reacted. Maybe all it really does take is that one special person that to make you want different things than you've always dreamed of.

Oh, and the Big Reveal after the second Big Misunderstanding (yeah, we had to get over two Big Mis's in this book) kinda lacked impact for me. I'd figured it out pretty quickly and was just waiting around for The Shit to Blow Up.

But why, with all these squirmy, uncomfortable, over-the-top what-the-fuckery problems, did I still love the book? It wasn't the amazing writing (the dialogue was a downright cheesefest at times), it wasn't my wish to emulate the relationship explored by our hero and heroine, it wasn't the "mystery" behind everything.

I think I enjoyed it despite the faults I've listed above and more I can't articulate because it was a visit with old friends. I've invested a lot of time on the Colter family and it was good to "see" them again. And just like with friends, there was stuff that bothered me but my affection for them made it easy to overlook those faults.

WOW!!!! 4.5 stars A GREAT ENDING to the Colter Legacy....An incredible story the emotions were so real, an ALPHA to die for and a woman who is strong and fights for what she wants and the smoking hot sex is great too!!!! If I wouldn't have already read some books about D/s I may have felt a little weirded out by Max.

I LOVE me some Colters' hate that there are more siblings, but glad that Callie got her HEA. I did feel the end was a little abrupt, I always like an epilogue, especially at the end of a series.

This morning I read a post by Maya on her facebook that she will not write about future generations, but that there will be one more book about the family as a whole. I think of it as a "where are they now book", this makes my little pout over the abrupt ending go away.

As much as I LOVE the Colter's, I personally am glad that Maya won't write future generations, because I would hate to see the passing of Ethan, Adam, Ryan or Holly. It's hurts just thinking about the pain the remaining members of the quad would go through after losing one of them after all their years together. Not to mention the pain the Colter "kids" would go through.

I want the Colter's to live in my memory with Adam, Ethan, Ryan and Holly being surronded by their Kids and grandkids, with the guys cooking, the women being spoiled, the kids being wrapped in all the Colter love and Holly still being MAMMA BEAR.

I liked reading Callie's story. And surprise, surprise....she's a one man woman!!!!!!

I mean, she has three fathers and one mother and three brothers and one sister-in-law..what were the chances that she would be anything different, right!!

Callie was quite a likeable character but I just wish she had shown a bit more backbone when it came to Max...I thought she was this independent and kick-ass heroine but ....melts around this idiot who abandoned her years before.

Of course, I changed my mind about the two ....two thirds of the way down....because Max actually turns out to be a decent kind of guy...however, i thought his reasons for his behavior with Callie a bit OTT...

Loved seeing the Coulter clan....i just love Callie's sister-in-law...she's a real treat......and the Coulter alpha-males....how can i not still be in love with these guys. I enjoyed the "family" touch to this story.

So, all the Coulters have finally got their HEA...love it!!!!

This one was decent enough that I finished it without difficulty, but it's definitely not for everyone. Unlike the first two books in this series, Colters' Daughter does not feature a relationship made up of three men and one woman. Instead, for Callie's book the author decided to dip into BDSM, although it's mostly the BD and not so much the SM.

In the end, I enjoyed this book enough to be glad I read it, but I'm also glad I checked it out of my library rather than buying it because I doubt I'll ever read it again. I still plan to read the next book in the series though, so there's that.

I didn't really like this book very much and that was because of how the H wanted the h to be submissive. I can accept him as a Dom and wanting her submissive with her accepting to be this way when having sex but not in ordinary day to day life. She was supposed to be the woman he loved and cherished and not a plaything.

I struggled to believe that a woman who is described as strong and independant would accept and do this. To me it felt that she was willing to become a plaything and a doormat just because she loved and didn't want to loose him which just didn't fit to the woman that had been described in the beginning and throughout the book.

Oh Man. I don't even know what to say. I just finished the book and I am still overwhelmed. I love a book that makes you feel the gut wrenching emotions. Maya Banks warned me a month ago that I would need a tissue while reading this book and I surely did. I don't want to say anymore than that because it was just released today, so I don't want to spoil it for anyone. Just read it!

I enjoyed the D/s relationship that was in this one. It wasn't quite as hot as the others thus far in this series. I suspect that may be due in part to Callie only having one partner. I guess it's impossible not to be scorching when you are the only woman in a three man sandwich as Holly & Lilly are. That scene on his couch though was smoking!!!!! ;D

well THAT was unexpected (full review later when I finish the series)

OK, so now I'm ready to do a full review of this series as it stands at this time. meaning I have read all the books presently published as of today.

First I'd like to say that over all, it was a phenomenal family story. I laughed and cried and laughed and cried through most of the books. They were all very touching.

As for the unique lifestyle of the Colter men, the boys didn't get a very good character exploration in their story. It was told to us that the fathers knew early on in life that that's how it would be with them. As for the sons, not only had THEY not thought of such a relationship, but when it did come to pass, they just sort of shrugged and said well ok then...that's beyond not realistic. it was hard enough to get past the love at first sight for all three sons, no if and or buts about it, but then we had to swallow that not one single time did they even butt heads about the logistics of such a relationship. i'm no expert, but i'm pretty sure that the whole sharing thing takes A LOT of finesse and is not just something you get right from day one. as a matter of fact, i really dont think that there's anything about any relationship that is gotten right from day one. so to not show us some of those growing pains between the four of them, i think it cheated us out of making the story believable. i know these stories are fiction, but they aren't supposed to be make-believe!

Callie was the only sibling in her story, Colters Daughter, that even showed any growing pains throughout the relationship. But even with that, her story was a total let down to me. First, I think it would have made better sense for callie's story to come first and introduce Lily into the picture in the story. Callie had already come home from Europe during the brother's story, Colters Legacy, devastated by what Max had done. If her story would have come before her brothers, maybe her brothers could have somehow had time to assimilate the feelings for the same woman thing before their happily ever after story came....
Now secondly, I really loved Max, but their D/s relationship was very blah to me. It had NO wow factor at all. I honestly expected her in some sort of menage situation. Even with the D/s fitting callie so well, I think it would have made a better story as a D/s menage of some sort.

Now as for the last book so far published, Colters Promise, I thought it was very touching. I may have cried through over half of it! The only thing that irked me about the book itself, is that it really was just long epilogues to the first three books all put together in one book. When I finished reading it, as glad as I was for the short updates on their lives, I couldn't help but think the only reason this was even published this way was just another marketing tool to make more money by making us buy a whole other book .... it kinda took away some of my feel good for the series ....

All that being said, I am very much looking forward to Lauren's story soon ....

(August) 2.5* I just could not get comfortable with this book. I'm not sure why, but it didn't work for me. Easy enough read - but coming from a family such as Callie's I expected her to either be a very strong, independent woman or quiet, sweet, shy, loving. I think she was supposed to be strong and independent - but she was a bit of an idiot, IMO! First of all, if you dream of building your dream house, you get a real job - you don't work crappy dead end jobs and then hope to save enough to build. Granted, she is only 23 (!) but still - it would take her until she is in her 30's at least to have the $$ to build (and that is w/a bank loan, which she'd never get because she has no real job!). And on top of that, she takes off and just travels - sleeping in train stations (!) to save $$ so she could just up and go. Really - she was raised w/some money, allowing your family to help you financially is not weak, it's realistic! For some reason, this really bothered me.

Add to that she forgave Max, a guy she knew for 3 weeks, in like a minute. And then went off with him for a week. And decided she'd be his - as in allow him to own her - as in accept his cuffs (which in most of the bdsm books I've read is a huge step, not something decided upon after 3 weeks together, many months apart, and now (maybe!)back together. I don't believe her submissiveness - she really had to think about whether she was submissive - she basically was turned on by some of the stuff, but to me it seemed she was more fearful of being w/o Max so if this is what he wanted, then she'd do it. While I get the whole "submissive in the bedroom" thing, the idea of being hand fed - of WANTING to hand feed someone - sorry, you'll never be able to convice me that the dom is looking for anything more than a toy, a pet (she lays her head on his leg and he pets her, like a dog), even maybe (ewwww...) a child he can control and play with and get his own satifaction from (he says with all other subs all he cared about was his own pleasure - seems like it doesn't matter to him who is on the receiving end of his dominance). Sex is sex, but wanting to be in charge of someone's everyday life - what they wear, what they eat, what the do, say, see - that to me is one step away from being dangerously abusive.

I liked the plot - I got that he left her because he was afraid of feeling too much too fast, and I like the lying about his family - that all worked for me - good ending, good grovel - but still, overall, didn't like him or her. Nice glimpses of the male Colters, though, which was a plus!

This was the fastest read of series for me, also the one I am most torn in my feelings for its content.

On one hand it has a solid concept and conclusion for Callies story but on the other hand has some questionable areas too.

All in all it is going to be a matter each readers taste as to whether this book works for them from start to finish.

So, Max Wilder was alot to deal with. My goodness.

I guess it would take a woman of Callie's caliber to committed to a man like Max. They were also hot, VERY HOT.

Max's secret was terrible, never thought it had the power to shatter Callie's world - her reason for existing. And as free spirited as she is, she could never free herself from the hold Max had on her heart and soul. In the end, Max suffered the same (if not more) than Callie did in the beginning. That's the thing about love, it doesn't stop. Ever. Even when the person utterly destroys you...love doesn't stop. Its unconditionally, forgiving, constant and forever.

Max was a good boy though, doing what he had to do...whatever it took to be the man Callie wanted/needed. To have the relationship/life that he and Callie both needed in order to survive.

Loved the fact that Callie had three dads and three brothers to physically hurt Max for emotionally and mentally hurting Callie. Awesome! Hahaha. Poor Holly, she was devastated watching her daughter hurt and all of her boys act like complete animals. Thank goodness for Lily being the steady glue, as always!!

I'm just glad Callie didn't have to lose her safe haven. Her refuge. She kept her family, her love and most importantly...herself.

Well you know what you're in for when you pick up one of the books in this series and it pretty much delivered on that. There were a whole bunch of characters mucking about in the main H/h's lives. It is always sort of distracting wondering how the rest of the town feels about all the multiple marriages, esp. that of the police chief. Between her family and me subconsciously counting bath and shower scenes, the actual sexing got a bit lost. Fairly hot what there was but there wasn't much. And I had a real problem with them all being so bent out of shape about this meadow. How freaking big was the meadow? It better have been about the size of the Ponderosa to have engendered this much angst.

Anyhoo, decent little story if you're just passing some time and you know what you're in for.

I love Maya Banks books and the Colters'Legacy series i love more than her other books that being said Colters daughter fell short of the first two books for me and i just wanted more from Callie's story and for me there was not enough drama in the book 2 stars.

Re-read 2019

I’m raising it by a star as I feel now I’ve had time to reflect on the story and the characters as well as re reading. It definitely deserves to be 3 stars.

Re-read 2023

Definitely think 3 stars was the correct rating, the story felt overly simplified and you missed seeing Max & Callie fall in love and how their relationship progressed while they were in Europe.

This book was horrible. There was a very good sceen where you find out how badly Max wronged Callie, but that was it. The rest of the book was bi=polar to the extreme. She goes from hating him and hitting him in the face to being "giddy in love" the next day. Once they 'love' eachother again it says I love you every other line! for the next few CHAPTERS!! If you like the first 2 books and the short story, skip this one. It brings the other books down.

This book seemed similar to other MB's books--Callie's relationship with Max was disturbing, he was spouting jibberish about trust and love and all the time he was lying to her about how they met and the reasons he pursued her in the beginning--Manipulative, Dominate and ultimately destructive relationship, but she keeps going back to him--go figure.

This 3rd book's story line was good. I really liked the hot & steamy scenes. I really liked Max's character. I really liked what Max did for Callie. I really loved how loving the Colters are in this story. I really liked the ending. Great job Ms. Banks.

It had been some time between reading book 2 and this book but I remembered the story well as soon as I started the first chapter. I gave this 4 stars as to me it wasn't as good as the first two in the series. There were moments when I really liked it and honestly moments where I wished the story would move along a little faster. Perhaps it's because at the beginning of the book I didn't care for Callie. As the book progressed I found myself liking Callie and at the same time liking the book a whole lot more. It was wonderful to visit with the fathers and the brothers again and really they made the book for me. If you have read the other two in the series, please go ahead and read this one, it can be read as a standalone. If like me you have to read a series in the order written the other two books are easy fast reads. Maya Banks has a wonderful way of weaving a story together and she has woven this one well with necessary narrative and conversations so realistic I felt that I was eavesdropping or a fly on the wall. Looking forward to reading more Maya Banks.

Nope. Just no on so many levels. No, no, no, no, no, no, and no again.

I disliked this one so much, that I finally stopped reading the series, which is probably a good thing.

This just felt gross and yicky all over. It took a strong, independent character that I loved in the previous book and turned her into nothing. And the dude was as far from being Christian Grey as was humanly possible. He was arrogant and selfish, while constantly trying to tell me that he wasn't those things. Yuck. Plus, they didn't delve into or really explain his backstory or why he was the way he was at all, which made it even less satisfactory.

Just thinking about him makes my skin crawl in a bad way. I hated this, in retrospect, so I reduced it to 1 star. I only finished it in case I wanted to read book 4, but by the time I finished this, I couldn't stand to go on to book 4.

This was a pretty good book, fitting for the series it is a part of, but it didn't entirely ring my bell.

Series Note:
Third book in the Colters' Legacy series about a family with some very non-traditional relationships. I don't think you have to read the others to read this one.

Summary:
Callie Colter is a bit of an anomaly in a family that is full of anomalies. Unlike her siblings and parents, Callie never went to college or has a desire for a steady full time job and has a yearning for travel and adventure. On one of her trips to Europe, she meets sexy, dominant Max Wilder. He shows her a part of herself - a submissive part - that she never knew existed.

Then he up and left her and never returned. Callie hasn't yet gotten over it. And then Max shows up in her brother's bar and begs for forgiveness. The two have a lot to work out if they can recapture the magic between them. And even then, there are still secrets.

Review:
This is definitely a series for the open minded. The first two books have feature relationships between 3 brothers and one woman and this book features a D/s relationship. So its not for those who prefer vanilla in their sex.

I have no issues with alternative relationships and I've enjoyed the first two books in this series, but I have to admit that this book didn't quite work for me. I didn't dislike it...I liked it to a point...but there was something missing. And there were a few issues I had with the book.

First, the story was entirely too predictable. From a few pages in, I knew exactly how the story was going to play out. And I was completely right. There's no surprises. Everything plays out in an entirely expected way and it made things a little trite. I wanted something a little less usual.

I also thought things between Max and Callie were too oversimplified when it came to the conflicts in their relationship. Max is a dick and runs off then suddenly returns. After a short talk, Callie is all over him again and things are perfect. Then later he's a dick again and Callie runs off, returns a few months later and after a 5 minute conversation everything's A-okay again. It was too simply. There are some major conflicts between these two and to have it worked out in the blink of an eye didn't really work for me.

And maybe it's just me and my personal tastes, but there was something about the relationship between Callie and Max that was off for me. It's so full of desperation and fatalism. Happiness is completely hinged on them being together and apart they are like shells of themselves. I guess I just don't think a person's happiness should be that dependent on another person.

Plus, Callie's submissiveness with Max seemed a bit ill-fitting. The D/s relationship in the story isn't quite like what you get in other erotic romances that have a D/s aspect. Those are usually centered on D/s in the bedroom, but with Callie and Max, it's not just in the bedroom, but also not a 24hr D/s thing. Regardless, I just couldn't see Callie - a strong minded, independent, free spirit - being in the type of relationship that Max wanted.

But don't get me wrong. These things bothered me about the book, but I still enjoyed the book to a certain extent. I was just bothered enough by these things that it kept me from really liking the story. Those of you who like erotic romance, the other books in this series, and don't mind D/s storylines will probably find this book enjoyable.

WARNING, this book contains: explicit sex and language, anal sex, and a D/s relationship

Nope!
Max is just an arrogant, bossy, manipulative arse & Callie, who in all the other books in the series comes across as a strong independant woman, is anything but that as soon as Max is around.
And lets not even think about discussing your Dom/sub lifestyle with your Dad!?!!? - Disturbing

What I liked about this book was its premise. Max Wilder, for all intents and purposes, had abandoned Callie in Europe after a short period of fantastic bonding and sex. What I liked was that before he came seeking Callie, he had already decided that she was more important and necessary in his life than fulfilling a deathbed promise to his mother, one that would mean losing Callie. Being more accustomed to historical romances where the hero would choose a miserable life to breaking his word of honor, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Max chose Callie and happiness.

Unfortunately, Max did not quite endear himself to me at first. Although he apologized to Callie and had a decent excuse, I did not feel that he had grovelled enough. He was demanding and manipulative, and did what he could to get his own way. He seemed like a bully. I wanted Callie to make him work for her trust. Alas, she practically fell right into his bed.

About Callie's and Max's Relationship

The sex scenes were pretty hot, I think. I liked how the author worked in the trust issue that Callie still had about Max into these scenes. Although Callie seemed to get over that pretty quickly, it did not bother me too much.

Did I mention how I felt that Max didn't grovel enough in the beginning of the book? He made up for it at the end. The author did a pretty good job making me feel the crushing sense of humiliation and betrayal that Callie must have felt, as well as Max's strong desire not to lose her and to spare her pain. It had become very evident to me early in the book that Max loved her and wanted the best for her. It helped that a good portion of the book was shown from his POV. It allowed me to empathize with him when he realized just how badly he had hurt Callie, and I felt his pain when he realized that he might have lost her forever. The pain he had suffered knowing that he was the cause of the present situation, and the lengths he went to to get Callie back, including facing 3 angry fathers, 3 angry brothers, and a feisty angry sister-in-law, went a long way to make up for his first "grovelling" scene.

Ultimately, it was a decent book but I did not enjoy it enough to feel more than lukewarm about it.

Hello, my name is Lynette and I have a problem. I am a Maya Banks fan girl. Even though I have serious issues with a lot of her novels (as you will soon see), those issues don’t stop me from running out to get her latest release, or not reading her books as quick as I can. If you can please provide any assistance to let me know why I have this addiction, and what it is about Ms. Banks and her writing that pulls me in despite myself I would be extremely grateful.

COLTERS’ DAUGHTER is the third book in the Colter’s Legacy series if you don’t count that short, free novella. The first deals with Holly meeting the three brothers and starting a relationship with them, the next deals with their three sons meeting a woman and starting a relationship with her, and COLTERS DAUGHTER deals with Callie meeting Max and their relationship.

My first problem with COLTER’S DAUGHTER is Callie. I loved her in the previous release and I was disappointed that she turned into such a doormat when she meets Max. Callie and Max’s relationship in COLTER’S DAUGHTER is about submission and dominance, so I’m not talking about Callie being a doormat because she’s a submissive in the bedroom. I’m talking about how she just allows Max to run all over her outside the bedroom when he hasn’t done anything to prove that he is a person who has her trust. It seems that type of relationship requires a lot of trust and how could you do that when the person your with has proved to be untrustworthy? I also find it hard to believe just because you want a man to be dominant in the bedroom that you would put up with him trying to control your life outside of it or not really care that you know anything about the guy your smexing besides his first and last name.

While Callie’s passiveness bothered me, I was really bothered by Max. Revenge stories don’t work well for me, especially when the person who is enacting that revenge is doing it on someone other than the person they feel they need to get back at (e.g., the daughter or ex-wife). That bothered me. It also bothered me that when Max came back to Callie at the beginning of COLTER’S DAUGHTER he was very contrite but wasn’t truthful with her for why he had approached her in the first place. I kept waiting for him to be honest with him and the longer I waited the angry I got until I just didn’t like him or buy into his reasoning when it finally did come.

As always with Ms. Banks the smexing was scorching and really enhanced the story and helped me to understand the dynamics of Cassie and Max’s relationship. Although I spent a lot of time discussing what bothered my with COLTERS’ DAUGHTER I still enjoyed the novel and Ms. Banks is still an author that I can’t help running out and buying. I don’t know why but I think it’s the way she manages to craft the words on the pages that really pulls me and I always have a strong emotionally connection to her characters and the situations that they find themselves in.
