Megan L Harnett Ok Ladies,

I so sorry but I have gotten behind in my challenges and I think I have started too many challenges as well. I am planning on doing some serious catching up this weekend since I don't have anything going on. Now all I have to do is make sure my husband is occupied so he won't bother me!

So I will read Slightly Married (Bedwyn Saga, #1) by Mary Balogh for my wheel book this weekend.

And I am reading The Boy Next Door (Boy, #1) by Meg Cabot for blue this week!

Alyssa (lyssad87) Just to make sure that everyone knows, this week's item is BLUE!!

message 204: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (lyssad87) I'm still working on my wheel book. Work has been insane this week. I'm planning on having last week's and this week's books done for next Friday though.

How is everyone else doing?

Megan L Harnett Slightly Married (Bedwyn Saga, #1) by Mary Balogh
Finished: 10/6/12
Rating: ★★★★☆

Review:

This book was interesting for me. Usually I don't like when the characters fall in love too fast but in this book it didn't bother me so much. The two characters are so stubborn they are trying not to fall in love that they actually end up doing just that. I liked this story becasue it wasn't overly romantic and the characters stuck to who they were and their beliefs and respecting each other in the process.

Doctor Who Touched by an Angel by Jonathan Morris
Read:
Doctor Who: Touched by an Angel by Jonathan Morris
Finished it on: October 8, 2012
Rating:descriptiondescriptiondescriptiondescription

Review:
One of my favorite Doctor Who episodes is Blink, the Weeping Angels are the show's scariest villians, so when I saw this book I was really excited to read it! The Doctor, Amy and Rory all came across as themselves and I could easily visualize each of the actors saying the things in the book. I laughed several times with the things the Doctor said and did - I could picture Matt Smith doing those things and it was HILARIOUS!!! The ending was a bit dull, but overall the story moved along at a great pace and kept my attention throughout. I would definitely recommend this book to any Doctor Who fan - it was very enjoyable!

Items Collected
Person (Non-human): "So what exactly are these 'Weeping Angles'?" asked Mark. (Page 79)
Place (Bar/Pub): Down on the dance floor, the indie kids flowed towards the bars while the dance kids surgedin from Rolf's bar. (Page 67)
Thing (Smoke): Caught in the flickering glow of a fire, thick black smoke billowing around it, its expression had changed to a snarl of hunger. (Page 11)
Color (Blue): The sky, rather than being dark and ovecast, had become a clear, early-evening blue, with a full moon. (Page 30)

Book: Gentlemen Prefer Succubi (Succubus Diaries, #1) by Jill Myles

Finished:10/Oct/12
Rating: 3 and half Stars

Review: Well this was quite the story. Grabbed you right from the start. Very funny book. Made me think of Lucille Ball if she was a succubi (maybe just cause of the red hair. Really was funny. Just what I needed to read while sitting around in airports on this last trip. Overall the story was so unbelievable but such fun to just escape.

Alyssa (lyssad87) I finished Skinwalker (Jane Yellowrock, #1) by Faith Hunter on 10/12/12 for the Wheel item.

Read: Skinwalker by Faith Hunter

Rating: ★★★★

Review: I liked it. It wasn't amazing, but it definitely held my interest.

I was pretty interested in all skinwalker stuff. The only things I really know about skinwalkers is from the Mercy books. All the new info in the book was pretty cool.

Jane is bad-ass. I liked her. Beast was cool too, and another bad-ass.

The jury's still out for me on a bunch of the other characters, like Rick and Leo. Very suspicious....

I'll be continuing with the series as the books become available to me.

Items Collected
Thing - Wheel: There are two of them on the cover.

A Love Surrendered by Julie Lessman
Finished it on: October 13, 2012
Rating:descriptiondescriptiondescriptiondescriptiondescription

Review:
I am so sad that this is the last book in the O'Connor family saga, but A Love Surrendered was a wonderful conclusion. I loved seeing snippets into each of the different couples married lives, which is one of the many things I loved about this series. I am glad I still have the prequel to read, as I am not quite ready to say goodbye to this family.

Items Collected

Review
Well this was the second in the Wallflowers series by Lisa Kleypas. I really enjoyed this story of Marcus and Lillian. What really made me mad was ST.Vincent and the Countess. I was just so disappointed in St.Vincent for his actions at the end of the story. I love Lisa's writing and will definitely seek out the next book in the series.

Review: It was really good! Kylie is one awesome supernatural in my opinion. I wonder what else we'll learn about her in the last book.

Poor Kylie though.... She has so many things to deal with at the same time. It's kind of crazy. Boys, ghosts, her supernaturalness, and more.... I feel for her.

Ugh.... I didn't realize the next book, Chosen at Nightfall (Shadow Falls, #5) by C.C. Hunter , is the last book. I feel like there could be so much more to the series. Can't wait to see how it ends.

Mercy and Riley are just fantastic. I loved them together. I spent a lot of the time going "Aww...". I think them together will be awesome for the series.

Book Read C is for Corpse (Kinsey Millhone, #3) by Sue Grafton
Finished 25/Oct/12
Rating 3.5 stars

Review
I love detective stories and Sue Grafton does not disappoint. I first started to read her series 2 years ago and then got hooked on PNR & UF and put her to the side.
I really enjoy Kinsey Millhone. I like Kinsey's no nonsense approach to life. The client Bobby who she meets at the Gym, is doing physical therapy after having been in a bad crash where his friend was killed. He believes that someone is still out to kill him. A couple of days later he is dead right after Kinsey is hired. Kinsey still has a retainer and continues the investigation.

A fun fast read. A great change of pace from what I have been reading lately. What I really enjoyed was the 80s references..Velour jumpsuits and workout gear has changed in the last 20 years.

Read: Storm Front by Jim Butcher

Rating: ★★★★

Review: It was good. Plenty of action, but it was hilarious sometimes too. There's a couple of chapter in the middle of the book where I was trying to not laugh like a crazy person. Of course, I was reading them at work, which made it even harder. *sighs* Poor Harry.

I liked most of the characters. Harry and Bob are probably my two favorites right now. Them together.... LOL!

I will definitely be continuing with the series as I get my hands on the books. It seems like it will be a lot of fun.

I've been holding off starting a book for Mountains/cliff, just in case an item is called tomorrow that will let me earn both of the items I'm missing. *fingers crossed, and baking brownies for Dawn/Mr. Randomizer* :-D

message 242: by Ana (new)

Ana i still have 4 items . one of them is smoke so as we have wing called i have to read 2 books and i am done...what happens next?

message 243: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (lyssad87) I don't think you need to read a wing book. I think you only have to if you need that item or you want to earn additional items. Since you don't really need too many more items, you probably don't have to read the wing book to help you earn extra items.

You should just be able to skip wing, and start a book for mountains/cliff, since you don't need wing. I saw what items you have left. If you pick the right book for mountains/cliff you might be able to earn your other 3 items too, because they are all from different categories.

So, I say start a book for mountains/cliff. Hopefully, Dawn will stop by and correct me if I'm wrong.

Finished Nov2/12
Rating: 3.5 ★★★

Review: I like Susan Wiggs. Her books are my go to reads when I am feeling down in the dumps. I chose this one because I wanted to get in the holiday spirit early.
The prim and proper librarian Maureen gets the chance to direct the holiday pageant. She is paired with a former child star and recovering alcoholic Eddie. Who cant stand christmas but has been appointed by the court to participate. He drives her wild and challenges every idea she has for the pageant.
I enjoyed their banter. Overall, it left me with a warm happy feeling.

A Light in the Window An Irish Christmas Love Story by Julie Lessman

A Light in the Window: An Irish Christmas Love Story by Julie Lessman
Finished it on: October 26, 2012
Rating:descriptiondescriptiondescriptiondescription

Review:
I LOVE Julie Lessman's novels and was super excited when I was given the opportunity to read this one before it was released. However, while I liked this one, I wasn't as enthralled with it as I was with her other books. In fact, I was kind of disappointed with it - which I hate to say, but it's the truth. This is her shortest book, to date, but it took me the longest to read! I kept putting it down, mostly because Marcy was getting on my nerves. Don't get me wrong, the story was still good, but knowing Marcy as the mother from Lessman's other books, I felt her behavior was quite strange in this book. I know she was a lot younger and everything, but she was so biased against one person and hardheaded too! She refused to think differently about him and consistently thought the worst of him. While with another person, who had the same reputation, she behaved the exact opposite.

Another part that was annoying was the ending. It was very confusing and WAY TOO ABRUPT!!! After reading A Passion Denied, I was looking forward to reading about a certain event, but that wasn't even in the book!!! I think it should have been, and was very disappointed that it wasn't. However, I can understand, in a way, it not being in the book for those who haven't read her other books and will read this one first. Then again, reading this book made the whole scene in that book seem really strange - if you've read that book, I'm sure you know to which scene I'm referring.

I loved the whole Christmas play theme and the way the men got involved in helping with it was both funny and ironic. I think I would have enjoyed the story more had it been available to read first, especially since this is the prequel to the other ones and I knew what the ultimate outcome was going to be. Even though I was disappointed with it, I'm glad I read it and any fan of Lessman's books will definitely want to read this one too, but may feel the same way I did.

***I received a complimentary copy of this book to review. I was asked to give my honest opinion of the book - which I have done.***
