R5: Team #4 ~ Better Off Read

Let's just hope Raphael pulls his head out of his ass.

Lol, I think both he and Andrea need to do a little of that. They are both super stubborn!

I must say, as much as adore every single thing the incredible Ilona Andrews duo do, I'm not all that excited about Gunmetal Magic. I likes me some Raphael but I'm not an Andrea fan at all-& besides, I'd rather read more about Kate & Curran. Wake me up when KD#6 is published.

On a side note - ill be in Italy for the week. We leave tomorrow and will be back next Sunday. The drive is 6.5 hours each way so I'm hoping I'll finish both my free space and this week's shelf. I'm not sure how connection will be there so I'll post on Sunday as soon as I can ( if not before ) :-)
Have a great week!

I'm going to read

I hope you like the book, Breann. I read that one recently and really enjoyed it. I'll be looking forward to your review, Lethal. I have that one on my TBR shelf. Have fun in Italy, Angi. I am super jealous! :)

I love this book, it has to be my favorite of the series and on my top 10 list of best books.
The story starts with Sookie sworn of the undead due to all the problems she had in the past books with Bill and Eric. Sookie is traveling home after a busy night at Merloetes on New Years Eve when she comes across a half naked Eric Northman at the side of the road. It would appear that a group of Witches have moved into Shreveport and have cast a spell on Eric wiping his mind and leading him to the thing his heart desires most of all!
Sookie takes Eric in and looks after him whilst the rest of the Vamps try to get rid of the witches. Eric without his memory is hilarious, this book had me chuckling out loud throughout. Throw in a steamy shower scene and complicated sexual tension this book has something for everyone.
Bubba also features int his book, for those of you who haven't read the books this is 'Elvis' haha who was turned into a vampire but a morgue attendant who happened to be a big fan. Unfortunately for Bubba he was too far gone to and ended up slightly disturbed when he turned and has a fondness for eating cats! :) this is another great thing about these books Harris has some imagination!
“Bubba made a sound of disapproval "You're not supposed to be kissing on anybody else, Miss Sookie" he said "Bill said it was okay, but I don't like it.”
― Charlaine Harris, Dead to the World
The best part however for me....aside from the shower scene, would have to be when Eric gets his memories back and can't recall any of the time he spent with Sookie of what he promised her!! Brilliant!!
"We could go back," he said. In the dome light of the car, his face looked hard as stone. "We could go back to your house. I can stay with you always. We can know each other's bodies in every way, night after night. I could love you." His nostrils flared, and he looked suddenly proud. "I could work. You would not be poor. I would help you."
"Sounds like a marriage," I said, trying to lighten the atmosphere. But my voice was too shaky.
"Yes," he said.”
― Charlaine Harris, Dead to the World

Review:
Mr. Churchill's Secretary got off to a slow start, but it finished with a bang! The plot dragged a bit for the first 100 pages, but then everything started falling into place and all the little bits of information that you read previously started to make sense in the bigger picture. The final act took off with a whirlwind of action and ended with a good setup for the future adventures of Maggie Hope.
Maggie herself was quite likeable. She was smart and very resourceful; she also stood up for herself when she thought she was getting the short-end of the stick. My only complaint is that, as a British-born but American-raised character, I had a little bit of trouble locking down her voice in my head. It was a very minor point though. I also enjoyed the other characters in Maggie's world, especially Sarah. She seemed to be a delicate ballet dancer but had an inner core of strength that came into play towards the end. Chuck and Nigel were cute together, David was suitably lighthearted and funny, and the twins were in the story just enough to not get annoying. It will be interesting to find out more about John and Aunt Edith in future novels. Mr. Churchill does make appearances, but he is more of a cameo player than an actual supporting one.
The plot was interesting as well. Some of the big bads are presented up front, but the real shocking character turn hits you like a ton of bricks. The central mystery was well-executed and fit into the WWII setting nicely. The subplot of Maggie's family was also woven in cleanly; it didn't feel contrived or like a totally separate storyline. Everything melded well together.
I look forward to continuing with Maggie's adventures and recommend giving this debut a shot to anyone who likes historical mysteries.

(p.s. my hotel has free wi-fi) :-))

I decided to read this book as my 'New To You Series' as it has been on my to read list forever. I have read other Rachel Vincent books and really enjoyed them so thought I would give the 'Shifter Series' a shot! And I am glad to say I was not disappointed.
The story follows Faythe Sanders a head strong student who's hiding a secret, she is a shifter who turns into a Werecat. After leaving home to escape her Were heritage and her over protective Father she is trying to lead a normal life. Until one night she is attacked by a stray shifter. Enter the over protective, Marc who just also happens to be her ex.
Two other female Werecats are missing and her father has sent Marc back to bring her home to try and keep her safe whilst they figure out what is happening.
Being her head strong self she rebels against the rules and after a drunked might with Marc decided to get some air away from the rest of the pride and sort out her thoughts. Unfortunately for her she doesn't realise she is being watched and it caught by the kidnappers and taken hostage. She now has to fight to stay alive.
All in all I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be reading the next book in the series.

Due to it being an ungodly hour to be awake-and the fact that I'm drinking my first cup-o-coffee for the day as I type, this review is going to be brief. Nastasya (also known by many, many other names) is an Immortal. What that pretty much means is she will live forever unless somebody gets lucky and manages to decapitate her. In the beginning of IB, she's living a life of deviousness and debauchery, hanging with her immortal buddies. Then she gets a wake-up call and decides she needs to grow the hell up, so she travels to the boonies to "Immortal Rehab"-which is where most of this book takes place.
I liked Nastasya A LOT more than I thought I would, given that she is a complete and utter spoiled brat. Usually that would drive me up the freaking walls but it worked in this book. I believe it has a lot to do with Tiernan's sense of humor. The things that Nas thought and said had me giggling nonstop. Think Georgia Nicolson from Rennison's "Confessions of Georgia Nicolson" series. I loved it. Not much happened in this FIS book but Nas could make watching paint dry seem like the funniest damn thing ever. The anecdotes she shared about her long life were interesting as well as the lore about Immortals. There's even a little romance (with possibly the worst possible love interest for Nas) thrown in IB but it didn't eclipse the entire book, which I am grateful for. After finishing IB I wanted more and although it's rare for me to read books in the same series back-to-back, I cracked open Darkness Falls almost immediately after finishing IB. It was just that good.

Review:
I admit that I wasn’t very excited to read this in the beginning. I felt like I have read it a million times before. Heroine who is coming into her own kickassness and an arrogant bastard for a “hero”. BUT, there is a reason I have read it a million times before and that’s because I freaking love this genre!
Merit was, without consent, turned into a vampire by one of the House Masters in Chicago, Ethan. She was attacked and would have died if she was not turned. She never asked to be a vamp and doesn’t want to be one now. Especially when she realizes that she has to leave her old life (somewhat) behind. She fights accepting her new life and refuses to bow down to her sexy Master vamp, Ethan. Which causes all kinds of fun for him. She fights him at every turn until she finally accepts her new life and pledges her loyalty to her House. After that, nothing can shake her allegiance.
I love Merit. I love Catcher. I think I will love Ethan. I especially love Mallory. I need to make a book-girlfriends shelf just for her. This book was a great start to a series. I didn’t feel like I was drowning the world building and trying to keep up with all the different nuances of the supes.
I can’t believe how long I have waiting to start this series! The best part about starting a series late is that I don’t have to wait for the rest of the books.

Well what can I say about this book....I really enjoyed it!
I downloaded a file of Kindle books online and this series was included. I have had them for well over a year and have been working my way through the 2,000 books that were there. I am sorry I waited so long to read it!
The story is about a PI Ross Marshall who has a talent from tracking criminals, he is currently tracking a man who is responsible for the torture and murder of numerous women. He is so talented at tracking them down because he is a Werewolf. After a close call tracking the cold blooded killer Marshall is shot in the leg and makes his way home to recover.
Genetic researcher Megan Sheridan pays a house call to Ross Marshall after he has called BioGen labs to have blood tests taking, when she enters the house she find him naked and unconscious with an infected gun wound and decided to stay and take care of him. She knows there is something different about him but she can't deny that she has a strange attractions to him. He tries to warn her off blaming his genetic family condition.
Things take a turn for the worse when Megan is kidnapped by the serial killer and Ross has to try and save her. But as usual love conquers all!
All in all I really enjoyed this book and am sorry it took me so long to read it! I must admit there were scenes in the book that were pretty horrific with regards to the serial killer, that could have put me off the book if it wasn't for the connection between Ross and Mega.

This genre was a new one for me- zombies. However after watching " The Walking Dead" on tv, I'm drawn in :-)
This one starts with the whole zombie apocalypse. People are being bitten and turning into zombies... Old, middle-aged, babies (that one freaked me put the most)...everyone. The world is turning chaotic and people are trying to ban together to survive.
The two main characters are women... One bi-sexual lady who loses her wife and one abused house wife who loses her husband and children. What a sad beginning this book is as we read of the husband eating the children :-( (I didn't like that part so much but it did wonders for the book because the author wants to horrify the reader.....well, consider me horrified. ) the women ban together to survive the new world where they are faced with other survivors... New situations and relationships... And not your ordinary zombie. These guys are fast and can think!
I really enjoyed this book. I connected with the characters and I found myself holding my breath as they battled against zombies and sometimes each other.
Great read- I look forward to seeing what becomes of this new world.

Review:
Holy Beast lord!! Curran and Kate... I freaking love them. I was afraid after the last two books I would begin to be disappointed because how can a series just keep getting better? Well... so far it has! I liked this one EVEN more than the last!
Kate and Curran they are great together. He's messed up in the head, she's messed up in the head. They aren't perfect, they have many issues by themselves and with each other but they are EXACTLY what the other needs. This one just built on their relationship more as it grows stronger and they work out their own issues and learn how to give and take in their relationship even though it's really hard for both of them.
The whole Julie thing... wow. That was really upsetting for me. I love Julie and I'm glad she is okay.... but what does it mean for the next books? There are always consequences... what will it be?
I love that we find out more about Kate and her heritage. I feel really sad for her because what she thought she knew, is not really how it was. What role will the witches play? I really liked the witches actually so I hope they are a positive part of Kate's life and don't screw her over like most other people in her life have.
I also REALLY love Kate and Andrea's relationship. I wanted to see a bit more but with all the craziness they just didn't get to spend much time together. I love their relationship. I think since they are working together, we will see more of them together in the future. I hope Andrea doesn't do anything stupid with Aunt B.... but knowing Andrea, this wasn't the end and it's going to get worse before it gets better.
LOVE this series. I'm so glad it has only improved from the first books when I only had a luke-warm feeling about it.
