Glad to hear it is good (not that I didn't expect that), now I have something to look forward to next year when it comes out in PB...

Positives: it's a fast read and the mythology is interesting though poorly constructed. As another reviewer said, the author needs a good editor and working on her dialogue among other things. I don't think I'll read the next in the series.

And with that we have completed 4 of the 5 Supernatural reads and 1 Free Space.
Its me to finish my Supernatural read - 65% done so it will be tomorrow for sure, unless I stay up all night like usual. LOL
So get to reading those Free Space books before we have another shelf posted on Sat/Sun depending on where you are :D

You're in for a treat as that series only gets better. I personally didn't really like the first 2 books that much but starting at book 4 I was hooked!

I've enjoyed that series so far. :)

Some people do like it though and I've read worse YA, but I guess I lost patience with these books. YA seems to be the most clichéd, unoriginal genre right now.
There are some exceptional YA books though so I haven't given up entirely on them.

I'm not a YA fan at all. So it was surprising to me that I really enjoyed Touch of Frost.

2/8/12 ★★★★★
So a YA book and I've given it 5 stars, that's just plain unheard of.
Gwen Frost, a 17 yr old Gypsy is sent to the Mythos Academy following the death of her mother. The Mythos Academy is a little different. Every pupil is either a Spartan, Valkyrie, Amazon or other amazing warrior type, except for Gwen. Weapons training is mandatory and of course, Gwen sucks at that.
The reason for the Mythos Academy is to train up the new young warriors that must defeat the Reapers, servants of the God Loki, the God of Chaos. All the other Gods & Goddesses banded together and led by Nike, defeated Loki in times past. But he has been working on escaping from his prison and uses the Reapers to that end.
Don't want to say too much or it'll give it all away, but I seriously really, really enjoyed this book. Maybe because I always enjoyed Clash of the Titans which JE said inspired her to write this series.

There isn't a lot I can say in this review that won't spoil, so I'll say I'm happy the triangle is gone, it was interesting to learn about Incubi and you might need a tissue near the end of the book.

Won't comment on the book cause I haven't started that series, and no I don't wanna till I've finished a few others :)

Also, i've finished reading

This was a fast and enjoyable read and it would have been a higher rating if by the end of the book the main character's thoughts would not have sunk to judgemental and mean observations of her fellow students, of her school etc.
For the first part of the book, Violet obsesses over Jay, her childhood best friend turned hunk extraordinaire over the summer and is being jealous of other girls. Once she gets her man, she starts seeing those same girls as artificial bimbos or lapdogs, her school homecoming dance decorations are tacky and so on. Very annoying. There is a serial killer out there and a murder investigation but its way in the background.
I liked Jay's character and the fact that they were best friends since childhood. Plus the premise of the book was interesting.

We'll be able to compare reads this week. Looking forward to what you think of #5 :)

Well, I would but I'm 9 hrs ahead of you and I plan to read it tomorrow my time :)
How about we read it and chat about it :D
I'll try grabbing some quotes as I go. I'm usually really bad at that but it does make it more interesting.

2/6/12 ★★★★
This is the first of the Dark Legacy books and whilst is draws heavily on the world created in the Arcane Society novels, it is not part of that world. There are people with talent that is, paranormal or psychic talent, in this case to do with stones & gems and books.
Our h, Abby Radcliffe, is a specialist in the hot book trade (not stolen but radiating hot psy energy) and everyone wants to hire her or blackmail her or kidnap her to locate and unlock a particular 40yr old scientific logbook. A very dangerous logbook.
Enter our H, Sam Coppersmith, a hot rock specialist, who is part of Coppersmith Inc and who also works for the Govt solving paranormal crimes.
Really enjoyed this new spin off and the excerpt for Crystal Gardens, Amanda Quick, looks equally as good.
