I was really looking forward to reading this as the amazons were a bit of an unusal subject but I just couldn't get into it at all. I pushed my way through and here is what I thought.
Mel has left the amazon lifestyle but when two dead amazons turn up on her doorstep she must find out who is responsible to protect her daughter.
I didn't think the plot was very well developed and the background in things like her powers were not very well explained at all. Unfortunately I didn't really like the main character.
All in all a disappointing read for me.

Good Job!! :D

Also, I'm gonna pop in and apologize for my slowness in reading - I've been trying to fight off a cold from hell and it's been interfering with my reading time. (Which sucks, because I really like this book so far!) But if *new2you: series is called tomorrow, I shooould be able to get that out of the way quickly - went book shopping recently and have plenty to choose from. :)

My thoughts: This was given to me as a review copy from the writer. It's self edited and comes off as very young, so there are a few typos and grammatical errors. The world created though, is very unique and interesting. Once you got used to the writing it got really interesting.

Thoughts: Has a book ever left me this emotionally exhausted before? I'm not sure. I was in love with this for the first 80%; Miéville skillfully creates the city of New Crobuzon, which is possibly the dankest setting in all of literature. This is "urban fantasy" in its truest sense. His creativity is immense - he puts all sorts of creatures in this book, like cactus-people and khepri (human-shaped people with insect heads, vestigial wings, and others parts). I have never read anything like this before.
On a surface level, it's about a garuda -- a bird-person -- who wants his wings restored after they were hacked off as punishment. He visits Isaac, a sort of "mad scientist" character who's working on a device for harnessing "crisis energy." Isaac becomes obsessed with the way things fly, which then leads into the plight of the infamous slake-moths (and the Weaver, a giant insane interdimensional spider called forth to deal with them). There are all sorts of little webs, involving art and drug wars and oppressive governments, but they all come together successfully.
My boyfriend read the prologue and called it "corrupted steampunk," which is a pretty apt description. The world is incredibly ugly, but Miéville's prose is amazing and pulls you right along. If you want something really different, give this a try -- but be forewarned that it's also a real downer. There is no hope by the end, and the conclusion was like a punch to the gut. I was unsure of how to rate this, but I feel like it deserves five stars for how much it affected me.

Seems like someone may win soon, go team! Not sure what I'll do after Bingo has been finished! lol
I'm not sure what I'll pick for favourite supe shelf. Zombies are my favourite but I'm not sure if they're supernatural. We'll put

I like Meg Cabot a lot and I always look forward to reading her books. But this one just did not do it for me. I think she was trying to be dark and angsty with this one and she just doesn't do it well. The plot was very predictable and the characters were not very well defined in my opinion. I know I'll read the rest of the trilogy, but I'm not eagerly waiting for them to come out.

Thoughts:
I got this book for free from Making Connections, in exchange of an honest review. Get Your Copy Here.
Since GR doesn't allow half star ratings, this book is getting 3 stars when it was more like a 3.5 for me.
I had just finished an epic fantasy book and was prepared not to like this one too much but boy, did I love it!
What I really loved about the story was that it was told from Estin's POV-we keep reading about huge wars where part animal creatures come to the aid of humans but we almost never get to hear their side of the story.
Another unique thing was that Estin was a wilding and not a shifter. He didn't fit into the human world and had to struggle to fit in with other wildings.
I liked how we were shown a whole host of different supes-my favorites were the Elementals and I would have loved to have read more about them. It was refreshing to see that this book had a MC who knew his limits. When the Elementals or dragons fought, the wildings pulled out, instead of rushing into the battle.
Oh and Finth! He was funny and inappropriate as hell and I loved every scene he was in, as well as his new gypsy bff, Yoska. Too bad, we never found out what happened to him at the end. I mean, he was obviously too stubborn to just die!
And of course, then there were the zombies! Smart ones! Who had magic! Could be people you even knew!
I enjoyed every second of the story and I'll be looking forward to any sequels!

Every once in a while, a book is hyped up and flies off the shelves and tops the best seller list. A movie is made, everyone hears about it, and everyone's reading it. It's not often, that such a book meets expectations, due to the hype surrounding it.
The Help is a rare gem of a book that tells a very relevant story. It is heart-warming, thoughtful, comforting, confronting, and touches you to the very core of your heart. Every page covered something of significance, and you know that there's something important that are written between these pages.
I could not put the book down, my mind consumed with the story of the unlikely friendship between Skeeter, Aibileen, and Minny. Set during the times of extreme racial segregation between the blacks and the whites, the book delves into the hearts and the minds of white women and the maids who serve them. It's a compelling story that anyone of any age could enjoy, and definitely one of the favourites of the year.
If this one is on your to read list, I definitely urge you to pick it up and slowly divulge what is in these pages, because you'll be in for a real treat.

Thoughts: I was really hot-and-cold on this book, so three stars seems like a fair grade. This departs from the story of Elena and Raphael and tells the tale of Honor, a hunter recovering after being savaged by vampires, and Dmitri, the cold, calculating vampire at Raphael's right-hand side. I liked Honor as a character -- I thought her fear of men after her assault was portrayed realistically, and watching her pick up the pieces and slowly recover was great to read. Dmitri, however, I wasn't as keen on. (view spoiler)
Though I liked reading about Dmitri and Honor after he cooled his jets (this book very nearly became a DNF because of his behavior), I was far more interested in what was going on with Sorrow and Venom. I'm really hoping Singh writes an Illium-centric book at some point.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

When I first read the synopsis of this book I thought it sounded kinda dumb, but I was pleasantly surprised! It was very well written, the main characters were not naive and vapid but mature for their age. The ending made me want to read the second one in the series.
