D.R. | 1 comments Hello All!

Just joined... I am the author of Shakespeare v Lovecraft... which is currently having a Goodreads giveaway! Blurb:

“We are such stuff as dreams are made on; and our little life is rounded with a sleep.”

William Shakespeare

“In his house at R’lyeh dead Cthulhu waits dreaming.”

Howard Phillips Lovecraft.

In the same putrid vein as Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Shakespeare v. Lovecraft slithers hideously onto the literary mash-up scene, whispering of cosmic horrors and eldritch tales whilst espousing sweet soliloquys and profoundly contemplating mankind’s place in the universe.

Prospero, driven dangerously insane by prolonged exposure to the dread Necronomicon, makes a terrible pact with the titanic alien beast known only as Cthulhu. Now only his enchantress daughter Miranda and a handful of history’s greatest heroes are all that stand between humanity and blasphemous eternal subjugation.

It’s a bloodbath of Shakespearean proportions as Cthulhu and his eldritch companions come at our protagonists from all manner of strange geometric angles in a hideous and savage battle for supremacy.

This horror-comedy novella of 36,000 words will seize you in its clammy grip and not release you until you have gone positively mad with delight! Witness all this and more:

Histrionic Heroes vs. Tentacled Terrors!!! Endless Soliloquys vs. Unnatural Silences!!!

Romeo vs. Mi-Go!!! England’s Royal Beasts vs. A Shoggoth!!!

The Author vs. Iambic Pentameter!!!(less)

As he lives in England, I guess it’s an international review.

He gave it 4 stars as he thought it finished too abruptly.

That’s OK by me, for that’s how time travel works, you know; now you’re here, now you’re not.

He cautioned all readers to wear a seatbelt.

Mike Meyer | 103 comments In these tough, polarizing political days, stress often rears its ugly head. We all know that laughter is healthy, so why not take a break and get some some good, healthy laughs in at the expense of the eccentric folks at Famous Union College, where, for the price of a hamburger, you can get a few hours respite from the toils of the day.

A ROLLICKING ROMP THROUGH THE HALLS OF ACADEMIA, the comically paralyzed setting is a microcosm of today's often seemingly dysfunctional society at large.

Famous Union is a pretty little college with expensive fountains, cute coeds, and brand new artificial turf on the football field. It seems like the perfect place to work, but not all is as it seems, especially when bungling administrators create theater-of-the-absurd conditions in this once very proud institution of higher learning. Hampered by severe budgetary problems, the powers-that-be at Famous Union College create situations that bring about comical chaos for faculty and students alike. How will the often eccentric characters cope with the drastic changes suddenly thrust upon them, where compromise is a four-letter word? Famous Union College is a place where what is what is not.

June McCullough (junemccullough) Good day. My name is June McCullough and I have two publshed novels.
The first one published is On the Other Hand. Although the story is fiction, the main character, Nina, is a composite of several family members and friends. On the Other Hand is a journey that one woman takes when her husband dies unexpectedly from a stroke. As she is learning to cope, a second character, Pat, is doing her best to balance life as a single Mom. Readers have told me that they laugh and cry while reading this.
My second published novel is Home to Stay. I actually wrote this one over 30 years ago, but just published it this year. This is a conemporary romance that takes place on a ranch just outside of Calgary. With winter coming, this is a great book to curl up on the couch with, maybe put the fireplace on, pour a glass of wine, and read.

I'd love to hear what you think of them.

message 1881: by Forrest (new)

Forrest This is a change for me, a deviation from my normal Science Fiction/Fantasy track. I've just published my historical novel, From Caïna to Jedecca at amazon. I've had a devil of a time trying to categorize it. The closest I can come is "Victorian Romantic Tragedy". Here's the blurb:

Matthew Oyd, a precocious and talented Pre-Raphaelite artist and dandy, rescues the beautiful model Tristine from the drawing room of his old art school, shattering the walls of Victorian class structure in the name of love. The ensuing romance strains Oyd's relationship with his best friend, Gussie, and further tugs at the bonds between Gussie and his wife, Elizabeth. The delicacy of each of these relationships is tested by vanity, social expectations, jealousy, desire, betrayal, and the drive for perfection.

Set in the highly competitive and quickly-changing world of late-Victorian Oxford, the characters of "From Caïna to Jedecca" weave their way through the maze of an era where a missed step can, and often does, lead to loss and even tragedy. From high society to the steaming gutter, surrounded by the ugliness of the Irish revolution to the beauty of Pre-Raphaelite art, Matthew, Gussie, Tristine, and Elizabeth look to find a way to fulfill each of their desires and dreams. But can they negotiate the difficult social obstacles that stand in their way without endangering their friendships and their marriages? Can their individual choices be reconciled with their collective happiness? What is the true price of art for art's sake?

Become enmeshed in a world where birth determines future success, where expatriates are suspect by their very foreignness, where the lines of social stratification are clearly drawn and enforced by the tyranny of the majority, and where idealized art may or may not bring peace and reconciliation with the gritty realities of everyday life.

Praise for "SCARECROWS: A DANDY World":

“Scarecrows [A DANDY World] combines the whimsy of Mr. Data with one of the most insightful investigations of the mechanical mind since Asimov’s series. Jonathan Emrys creates some of the best SF imagery since his hero, Ray Bradbury.” -- Dan Nieuwsma, Laser Physicist and SF fan

*************

Seeing Humans In A Mirror Through Artificial Eyes . . .

Humans have succeeded in creating artificial life... by accident. In a world where the future has come and gone like a whirlwind, from the technological rubble has clambered a race of artificial sentient life forms known as ‘Humes’. Now these newly created sentient beings, the survivors of a technological tempest, live amongst us under Government protection and control.

Isolated to the eastern half of the United States, along with other select parts of the world, Humes long for independence. They seek to escape the confines of the Government's watchful eyes and to experience more than they are allowed; and in some cases, they succeed.

On the west coast lives Lucy Barnes, a young woman who lives alone and works in the Fashion District of Los Angeles. She works hard, pays her rent on time, and enjoys her quiet moments of solitude. Sometimes she just wants to curl up with a good book and lose herself in another world. However, her carefully regimented life is thrown into turmoil when some new friends turn everything upside down.

Lucy’s story examines the quest for freedom and independence. It also examines how humans view sentience, how they treat each other, and how they might be viewed by intelligent beings outside of their own species. It deals with how we treat the other or the outsider or those who are different from ourselves. It also examines humanity by turning a mirror on our own prejudices and presumptions.

CONTAINS STRONG LANGUAGE . . . and a squirrel.
