Werner Johnny, good luck on this poll! I think people have to be a member of the Book Haven group to be eligible to vote, though. :-)

Doug DePew (dougdepew) | 13 comments Hi, everybody! Thanks for the chance to tell people about my new book and thanks for inviting me to the group, Rick.

SAT & BAF! Memories of a Tower Rat by Doug DePew

"SAT & BAF!" is a memoir of my two years as security for the extremely controversial Pershing II nuclear missiles in Heilbronn, West Germany. I was stationed there with C 2/4 Infantry from 1986 to 1988. People always enjoyed my stories of my time in Germany and told me for twenty years that I should write a book...so I did! It has a little adventure, travel, romance, history, and a whole lot of humor. The style is conversational. It's a light, entertaining read and very topical right now. This is the twentieth anniversary of the destruction of the last Pershing missile.

It has been extremely popular with veterans who served in Germany during the Cold War. I've been told by many that it's extremely accurate and realistic. Many have thanked me for telling our story.

I hope you check it out. Thanks!
Doug DePew

Maryab Maryab (maryabshire) I have a paranormal romance series out right now.
Claiming the Evil Dead (The Soul Catcher, #1) by Mary Abshire Catching an Evil Tail (The Soul Catcher, #2) by Mary Abshire Fighting Evil (The Soul Catcher, #3) by Mary Abshire
I'm waiting to hear back from my publisher on the 4th book, Love Conquers All Evil.
I'm also waiting to hear from a pub on my urban fantasy, The Awakening. It's about a woman who doesn't have any memories and discovers she's unlike any creature in the world, and also part of a secret scheme aimed at keeping her existence a secret.
I started on the sequel to the Awakening. It's my current WIP. I'm going to keep this series short, 2 books.
I have 2-3 other book ideas in my head right now. As soon as I finish my WIP, I'm going to work on them instead of another Soul Catcher novel.
I keep thinking I'd like to write a novella, but once I get started writing, all my stories end up novel length. LOL.

message 514: by Arshad (new)

Arshad Ahsanuddin (pactarcanum) My name is Arshad Ahsanuddin, and I am a Goodreads Author of two self-published fantasy/science fiction novels called Sunset: Pact Arcanum: Book One and Sunrise: Pact Arcanum: Book Two. More information about myself and my work can be found on my Goodreads profile or at my website: http://pactarcanum.com

The plot of the first book is based on one simple question: If there were vampires and vampire slayers in the world, killing each other in the shadows without anyone being the wiser, what would happen if they were caught on camera during a nationwide TV broadcast? The major subplot of the book is the main character's thorny love life (The main character and many of the principal cast are gay men.) and resolves whom he finally ends up with.

Any feedback is welcome, if it will help me become a better writer.

Respectfully,
Arshad Ahsanuddin

Martin Treanor | 29 comments Hello all - and a heartfelt thanks for many entertaining hours I have spent as a member of this illustrious group ... and the good friends I have made.

Now to the strumpet-like self promotion of my new title:

The book is called THE SILVER MIST:

Silver Mist, The by Martin Treanor Silver Mist, The

... a speculative story, following a Down syndrome woman, Eve Hayes, as she faces up to the carnage and personal tragedy that is 1972 Belfast. Then she meets the captivating Esther ...

For those of you who get the book, your views and reviews would be much appreciated.

I have a long history of short-story writing, have even won a few awards down the years - however, I wanted to expand my range with THE SILVER MIST, and challenge myself to tackle a deeper premiss with a more flexible prose.

I would be delighted to find out what you think.

Many thanks to Rick for allowing me to place this plug here - and to you all once again.

Enjoy your weekend - and whatever literary piece you are engaged with at present.

Martin :)

Thanks Rick. I have had some interesting feedback about the use of the Holy Grail as the essence of the Self and Questing as a concept that we can all do to create the life we want and overcome challenges in real life.

Rickey (rbray) It's just announced that my novel, Rendezvous Rock, is the winner of the Cross Genre category in the 2011 National Indie Excellence Book Awards. I'm glad they had this category because I've always had a hard time pigeonholing exactly what genre Rendezvous Rock belongs in - having action, adventure, romance, and some light fantasy. This is the second award Rendezvous Rock has earned. It also placed 2nd in the Fantasy Category of the 2010 Reader Views Literary Awards.

Damon (goodreadscomdamon_dimarco) | 4 comments Dear fellow James Mason members:

I’m pleased to announce that, from now until May 23, you can enter to win a copy of my latest book, “My Two Chinas: The Memoir of a Chinese Counterrevolutionary" . . . a giveaway sponsored by Goodreads, of course.

A quick way to enter? Visit my website (http://www.damondimarco.com/author/?p...) and click on the Goodreads badge that says Enter to Win. It's that simple (though you must have a valid U.S. shipping address to enter).

“My Two Chinas” has been endorsed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, former Mayor of NYC Ed Koch, members of the U.S. – China Economic Security Review, world-renowned experts in human rights, and many other distinguished names.

A Publishers Weekly starred review calls it "beautifully written" and "both a history lesson and a heart-wrenching read."

Library Journal says it's "An insightful look into the conditions in China’s hidden prison systems, yet of greatest value as a personal, rather than political memoir. Recommended for readers interested in post-Tiananmen Square China.”

The book recounts my co-author Tang Baiqiao’s experiences as a student leader during the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989; how he was subsequently hunted by the Chinese government and jailed for his pro-democracy activities; the physical and mental tortures he endured while in prison; his release, and eventual flight to the U.S.

Despite living in exile these past 21 years, Tang Baiqiao has never relented in his campaign to bring human rights and freedom to his homeland, and throughout the world.

Thanks for lending me a moment of your time and thank you, as always, for reading.

Best,

Damon DiMarco

Johnny Flora (johnnyflora) | 8 comments Hi, I'm Johnny Flora, author of "The Spell of Zalanon" and "Wake Co." Here is a brief description of "The Spell of Zalanon" which is nominated in the Book Haven August 2nd group read; Imagine 500 million common household cats suddenly transformed by an ancient Egyptian spell into phycho demon predators bent on culling the overpopulated herds of humanity. The result is catyclysmic chaos like the world has never seen. Simply put, "The Spell of Zalanon" is a good old-fashioned monster story with overlapping plots, emotional twists and bends, reluctant heroes, an assortment of sinister villians and an ending that I can't talk about. Please vote for my novel and I'll be honored to have your support and friendship. Enjoy...[Jersey] Johnny Flora
