R2: ♪ Team Red
thanks carrie. Right now it hurts a little bit and I'm stiff but otherwise ok. It was a bit embarrassing because there were other people around when it happened. But rather than laugh they actually were concerned for me and asked if I was ok. So I guess there is some hope for humanity :)
BTW I if you read my complaint on the main thread about the pressure to finish first I want you ladies to know that you are all wonderful and not to blame for how I feel. No one on the team has put pressure on me. I just hate that only certain people will ever get to put forward suggestions. I'm a slow reader and I haven't been able to take my time with the books and read and absorb them because I really want to be able to give suggestion for at least one of the weeks.
I saw it. What amazes me is how some people can have their book finished and reviewed before most have picked one out. I really hope you stay with the team.
I'm staying with you guys for this round :) I just might not do any future rounds if it is always gonna be the fastest people
Carrie, yeah that has me bothered too. If it is supposed to be a team effort for points why then are the people who read fastest getting the reward of suggesting songs? It just doesn't make sense to me.
Melissa I agree with what you said I actually thought about dropping out last week. I enjoyed the last round so much more.
Judy yeah our team has been good about not pressuring. That's why I made sure to say that to you guys. I did see though in one of the other teams that one of the players dropped out. It looked like she felt pressured from the other team mates whether they actually were pressuring her or not. I do feel a lot better about playing this challenge since it seems like everyone was open to listening to what I had to say. As for my back it is doing better thanks. I'm still stiff so I wont be working tonight (work in retail).
I'm sorry you guys feel pressured to finish fast, the whole point of the game is to have fun and see how we all use our creativity to find links for songs. We are still learning what our members like and don't like on team games. Your feelings and suggestions will be taken into consideration if we decide to do a R3.Have fun reading!
Melissa, glad to hear you are ok. I admit I was worried since you usually check in. I hope your back gets better soon.I just saw your post in the main thread - I totally agree with you. Last round had its issues but this round has been emphasising on fastest reader. I'm sort of resigned to not picking the songs but just pick better books among the options I have. I'm glad you did not feel pressurised - the point is to have fun :)
I'm sure the mods will take this into consideration for the next round. They put a lot of work from the previous round to this one to make it more fair to all the teams.
Now I'm worried about Karen - she hasn't logged into GR for a while. The last timestamp on her page is on Jan 25. I hope she's okay..

I'm just finalising now with your back-up to see if she can be ready in time for the next song to be called.
As far as this week goes, we'll just average out all your scores, to make a score for Karen. We've done it for other teams in similar situations in past weeks, so go post the reviews over at Mr DJ's thread whenever you're ready.

UGh I think I only know the Whitney Houston song. I might know one of the other ones but just glancing I don't know them. I never thought that at 33 I would feel too old for a challenge LOL
Just a FYI - my brothers will be coming over tomorrow to my home for the weekend. I won't be able to get much reading done when they are here. They just won't let me..
Hi Ladies, We have another player for your team!!! Jennifer~Princess Penguin~ has been kind enough to volunteer and would like to join the game. Please make her feel welcome :-)Welcome, Jennifer!!
Hello Jennifer, welcome to the team.!!(It took me about 10 tries to spell your name, I kept on typing fwr rather then fer, lol)
Hello and thanks for having me :)Just so you know this is my first time playing but I'm a very quick learner.
The one thing I'm not sure I understand is the 'shelf' points.
If you could bring me up to speed and let me know where I need to start and if there is anything I need to do to get caught up, I'm excited to get started :)
Hey Jennifer welcome to the dance party!I'm actually from the Violet Femmes but just wanted to say hi. I also joined after someone left the group and found that reading the team threads and seeing examples of how people found books to match songs helped a lot. As for getting the points system down I have it saved in wordpad so I can bring it up and refer to it easily. The most important thing is just ask someone if you get confused everyone is real friendly.
As for the shelf point. When a song gets picked Mr DJ also adds a link for the shelf that matches the song. If you pick a book and it's on that shelf you get a point. Hope I explained it right.
Nice to meet you Manvir :)I've already started looking at previous post so I'm off to a good start. And you totally cleared up the confusion I was having with the shelf point, thanks :)
Thanks, Melissa!Melissa, btw, we did finish earlier than day 6 but I think they only calculate the day we posted in the DJ thread. Not sure though.
Hi Jennifer! Welcome to the party! What Manvir said about the shelf. I'll be around GR mostly when Mr.Elf posts the shelf. If you have any questions, just ask and we will definitely help you out. We hope you have fun with the game :)
BUT, Tip #1 - Stalking other teams is always helpful :P
Oh and a FYI points update: Right now, this is the point standing (4 teams have their dancers groovified)
1 - Emerald City with 274
2 - Yellow with 273
3 - Red with 270
4 - Violet with 263
Pink hasn't had their dancers groovified yet but most of their books are 15-16 pointers. Once they are done, most likely we will be pushed to 4th place.
So, the good news is that the point difference is marginal. I'm sure the results are going to be close. I think last week made the difference. We were able to decrease the initial difference by so much.
Awesome work, ladies! We are doing great!

Shelf: Magical Creatures
Word: STOMP
Does the shelf have to be the exactly "magical creatures" because the book I would like to read has "mythical creatures" and "magical beings" but I'm not finding exactly magical creatures?
In order to claim a point for shelf it has to be on the given shelf. Doesn't mean you can't read something from another one, you just can't claim a point for it.
Did any of you check out the musician's names? I highly doubt anyone is going to get any points there :)
LOL I've found a good book but I'm not sure what will work. I have the potential of title, setting, plot and cover. But have to wait to hear back. Also didn't check yet on bonus word.

Book Title: The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson
Date Read: January 28 2013
Rating: ★★★
Review: This book was just ok for me. I think part of the problem is that I came into reading this book with high expectations. Partly because so many of my friends on here who I respect seemed to write glowing reviews about the book.
I like Elisa was flawed and overweight. There are not enough plus sized females in books in my opinion. However something abut her just put me off a bit. In the end it was an enjoyable enough read that I might check out the next book
