Review: I first read this ages ago and loved it so much I devoured the rest of the series - at least the ones I had available to me. Not much has changed - I still really like this book and I'm looking forward to rereading the rest of them.

Week 8: Emergency Vehicle

Book: Glazed Murder - Jessica Beck
Completed: 01/20
Rating: ★ ★ ★
Review: I have a fondness for food-and-murder mysteries. This was very much like the Hannah Swenson series, except instead of cookies, there were doughnuts. I found it very quick and easy to read and I didn't guess the culprit until right before the amateur sleuth did.


Bonus Items:
Rain: pg. 83: Emma and I normally sit outside for twenty minutes every morning— rain or shine, snow or sleet—just to get some fresh air and escape from the kitchen for a little while.
Hood: pg. 4: “All I’d really caught of the person dumping the body had been a face covered with a black ski mask, and the flash of a faded tiger embossed on a dark, hooded sweatshirt.
Nose: pg. 398: “I said, take it,” he repeated, and I realized there was a cup almost under my nose .
Emergency Vehicle: pg. 395: I took a clean towel and pressed it against his chest wound, whispering to him gently as I waited for the ambulance to arrive.

Changed my book yet again this week. I was reading this for another challenge and saw it had what I needed.

Also, this completes 3 out of 4 categories for me. All I have left to find is Paper and Cake.

I am sooooo sorry! I fully intended to have The Lost Hero finished by yesterday and at least a portion of Guilty Pleasures started. But I got food poisoning yesterday. Both my fiancee and I got a nasty case of it from breakfast yesterday morning. Now we are still in the process of getting in actual substance. I am currently letting my Nook charge then it is back to reading the book.

Yikes hope you get to feeling better soon Meghan. :)

The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan

Review:
This book is a good solid 3 stars. This may be mostly due to the fact that I haven't read the Percy Jackson series and this book is a spinoff/continuation of that series.

I felt this book mostly dragged until you got at least half way through the book. I just wanted something to happen and all the characters to stop being so insecure about themselves. And of course that happened about 1/2 way through the book when their confidence grew and they started being sure of what they could do.

The three main characters (Jason, Leo, and Piper) were all unique in their own way and all played a critical role in the story. I really liked Leo and his way he loved to make a joke and make things fun as a whole.

Thanks for the well wishes guys. I am feeling better but still can't keep anything in my stomach whether it is a light food (like Jello or broth) or something with more substance. So since I haven't had any "food" stay in my stomach in 3 days. I am currently starving and eating every 2 hours at the minimum.

Ladies -- you are all doing great. We've submitted for 5more points and hopefully we'll have more items this week!

Not feeling well think I caught that doggone flu bug and so I am just gonna use what I can out of another book I read this week and save The Dress for my next weeks book because I doubt I can get it read before next week anyhow the way I feel. Ugh done had this mess one time back before Christmas and it was horrid.


Mississippi Cotton by Paul H. Yarbrough

Review - While not a time travel story it sure will take one back in time to simpler days and times long forgotten. Reading this took me back to days spent on my grandparents porch listening to them talk bout "The Good Ole Days". I loved it and it is very realistic and true to the ways of the south. The murder mystery was interesting and pulled the tale together nicely. I think I may just have to go back and read this again! I can't wait to share it with my family!

Review: This book took a very long to get through, but I really enjoyed it. It was very informative and gave me a new incite into our commander and chief and how he grew up.

I wanted to make sure I didn't need to read another book real fast so I went and peeped at the rules and it didn't say you have to post from each group every week.

Which relieved me because whew just don't know if I could read another one this week. lol :(
