Lord I sure hope so - we have been dealing with him not sleeping waking up in the middle of the night with chest pain so bad that he pops nitro like m&m candy...he will wake me up then Im worried & I dont go back to sleep so I have been getting up anywhere from between 2am to 5am for about the last 2 months just about everyday & then I have to work - friends & his family keep an eye on him but its hard...the last 5 years have really been hard - thankfully he has been disabled since 2011 so we dont have to worry about an employer & my employer is awesome...
Im pretty tough & it takes a lot to rattle me but this surgery has me really worried - Jimmy turned 60 in Feb but he's not in the best of health & major surgery plus the fact that he is diabetic is weighing heavily on us both - but I know that he is in awesome hands in Indy so I trust in the Drs & my faith to bring him thru this with flying colors...
thanks again for all the prayers....

I like Kirsten Hannah. The three books that I will be reading are: Distant Shores, Between Sisters, and Magic Hour.

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I think she has read all of those... I've not read any KHs!

She's not bad. It takes some time to get in her books.

Barb Steven wrote: "I think she has read all of those... I've not read any KHs!"

I own most of her books but haven't read many of them ... yet :) I don't know about the rest of you, but the books I own always seem to take a backseat to the library books I have checked out. The library books have due dates, after all, and the books I own don't!

I think the KH books I've liked the most are Magic Hour by Kristin Hannah and Home Front by Kristin Hannah . Her books always have the most *gorgeous covers!!

message 261: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Yeah, if there's one thing I can say about her books (having read none and only heard *EVERY* detail from my VERY talkative [read: verbal diarrhea] bestie) is that the covers on the newest books are always really gorgeous!

READ-A-THON UPDATES

There are some misunderstanding about ALL the team members needed to participate to get points.

Well, they DON'T

If a team has 12 members and only 4 want to participate, that team can still earn all the points available.

We'll consider that team a team of FOUR elements to the Read-a-Thon only.

message 264: by Barb (new)

Barb Thanks for the clarification :)

message 265: by Barb (new)

Barb OK team, we're now in **6th** place, but we're only behind by 5 or 6 books -- and there's still a LONG way to go till this is over! Keep on reading :)

Jane | 705 comments I am taking part in two different Read-a-Thons over the next week so I hope to read at least 7 books above 160 pages.
Starting tomorrow lasting one week, I take part in Spring into Horror Read-a-Thon.
And Saturday to Sunday I take part in Dewey's Read-a-Thon.

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments LOL it's not like we lost anything. She was reading against no one but herself! :p

To be picky about it, this should say Oo vs Mango Tango captains, since you didn't challenge the entire team :)

message 273: by Karla (new)

Karla Thanks everyone for your kind words. This weekend was tough, but it was nice to see my family. If one other person in my family passes away, I will quit. We had three since August.
Anyway, Thanks again for all of your kind words.

Sallie, I hope your husband is doing well!

Mariee I hope your family is feeling better!

I finished one book this weekend.

LOL I know what you mean about writing while tired, it happens to me a lot :)

I did notice the 8 books in seven days, but since I've done similar things, I felt I'd better keep my mouth shut LOL

Have a great week!

My long weekend trip at the start of the challenge apparently caused me to miss this. I was in a special challenge? What did I need to do? Page count? Book count? I could have delayed that 900+ page book if it was book count.

Actually accomplished during 15-21 Apr was 5 books and 2189 pages read.

message 277: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Evana, it wasn't really a challenge. Oo asked if I'd give her incentive to read a certain amount of books in a week. So I did. This was before you had logged into the Round II stuff.

It was basically "If Oo reads 8 books in a week, Steven will change his profile picture to a leather jacket and add a line to his profile about Leather Jacket Black"...

You're good. Keep on reading though! :D

message 278: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I'll fix your sentence for you, Oo:

"Steven and I had been attempting lame, dorky, book smack talk."

haha

message 279: by [deleted user] (new)

Woke up sick from early this morning so hopefully i will get some reading in today.

message 280: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Hopefully you get some reading in AND (more importantly) you feel better!!!

message 282: by Diane L (last edited Apr 23, 2013 08:43AM) (new)

Diane L Steven and Oo, thanks for the explanation. I will choose to accept the challenge to read the Sleepy Hollow book anyway. I'm a sucker for classics. And happy to participate in dorky book smack talk too.

message 283: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Haha, excellent Evana. I chose to change my profile pic/profile description because A-I've read Legend of Sleepy Hollow (a long time ago!) and B-It's too short to count for the actual Round II challenge if I do re-read it now.

But we enjoy the dork book smack talk! :)

message 284: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I actually didn't even realize it was him until after I posted it. I just saw hotness and said THERE'S THE NEW PROFILE PIC.

message 286: by Diane L (new)

Diane L I've read several things so far this year that are too short for the challenge. Night by Elie Wiesel, Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck, a book of poetry. Too many good books out there to let a challenge dictate my reading entirely.

message 287: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments That's true... but since I have pretty limited reading time, I try to read stuff that counts!

message 290: by Jane (last edited Apr 24, 2013 04:54AM) (new)

Jane | 705 comments My holiday has started. I read one book monday getting ready and two books yesterday waiting in airports and all in all 5 hours in planes with notning else to do but read. I just finished my fourth book but unfortunately it is 10 pages short for this challenge.
All three books are in the scary / horror genre. Manhattan Grimoire by Sandy DeLuca Hollowland (The Hollows, #1) by Amanda Hocking Marked (Soul Guardians, #1) by Kim Richardson

message 291: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Good reading Jane!!! That's excellent work! :)

Everyone, I just wanted to give you all an update. ~Mariee~ has decided to bow out of the challenge for now. Her family has been sick as of late, as we all know, and one of her little ones has bad pneumonia and has ended up in the hospital.

I told her that we'd be here when she got back if she wanted to rejoin, and I told her that, more importantly, we'd really like updates so we don't worry for her too much. And that we all hoped for the best outcome in this scary situation for her.

So we're down one and have a few slower/less active/only post occasionally readers, but we can still do this thing! Keep reading, and keep ~Mariee~ in your thoughts/prayers/etc.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Aw, Steven. That is rough. She'll be pulled in several different directions, with one in the hospital. Her little one, ~Mariee~, and her family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

message 293: by Barb (new)

Barb It's bad enough when an adult goes through that kind of scary sickness, but it's even harder to watch a little one deal with it :( Thoughts and prayers for ~Mariee~, her little one, and the rest of the family.

message 294: by Barb (last edited Apr 24, 2013 09:33PM) (new)

Barb I've finished two more books, The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie (Flavia de Luce, #1) by Alan Bradley and Ghosts by Gaslight Stories of Steampunk and Supernatural Suspense by Jack Dann . Wish I could have saved one of those for the color part of the RaT, but I needed Ghosts for a challenge that ends in April, and Sweetness is the book for our discussion group that meets on Friday!

I took a couple of days off work to give myself a 4-day weekend, so I hope to knock out several books in the next few days. How are you all doing?

Sallie, how did things go for your hubby this week?

message 295: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I finished Sleepwalkers by Ross Ellis yesterday and have read a bunch in Living Dead in Dallas (Sookie Stackhouse, #2) by Charlaine Harris . Should finish it today and try to start something else. Dunno what yet. More of Sookie? A new series? A random stray book? A horror novel for another challenge I'm in? Decisions decisions.
