Just checking in. Been sick for two days. Early yesterday morning was the worse. Haven't read for 2 days cause all i've done was sleep. Feeling a little bit better today but still have stomach pains.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments I hope you feel much, much better soon, Nancy.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments Sorry to hear that Nancy. You know you are really sick when you can't pick up a book. Get well soon.

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Feel better, Nancy! :(

Karla I hope you feel better soon, Nancy!

Barb Nancy, hope you feel better soon!

Thanks everyone. I'm slowly getting better after the sickness just came out of nowhere early saturday morning.

message 1760: by NBRC Book Ninja (new)

NBRC Book Ninja | 1025 comments This is the NBRC Book Ninja! Just when you thought you couldn't earn any more Book Advantage Points (BAPs), I appear!

You never know when I will pop up, or what I will ask for. These little mini tasks will be worth one or two (1 - 2) BAPs.

For the first task, I will grant your Team one (1) BAP for any Team where two members read books by the same author. They may be the same book, or not. They may be under different pseudonyms, too; it matters not to me!

You have until the 23rd of November to earn these points.

Until the next surprise.

Post finished task here.

message 1761: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I guess I need to get cracking on Dead in the Family by Charlaine Harris then, so that'll match Lisa's After Dead!

:D

message 1762: by Barb (new)

Barb I should have known better than to believe "the mods are taking November off" LOL

message 1763: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Haha, me too, Barb!

If anyone wants to know for the sake of this new challenge, the authors I'm reading this month are Robin Hobb, Charlaine Harris, Ilona Andrews, Diane Wynne Jones, Philippa Gregory and Joanne Harris.

message 1764: by Barb (new)

Barb Well, we can only earn one extra point -- so only one match will count. I'm sure the next ninja 'challenge' will be something entirely different, so it will be next to impossible to plan ahead. Meeting these challenges is going to be sheer luck, I think.

message 1765: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Oh I see. I read that wrong the first time ;)

message 1766: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I'm reading Dead in the Family by Charlaine Harris now to match Lisa's book for the Ninja BAP and to fill my commitment for the Chain Game hehe.

Hopefully the next ninja task will be easy!

message 1767: by Diane L (new)

Diane L I'm currently rereading The Hunger Games with my daughter-in-law since we have now finished the Harry Potter series. This would be the point where I miss that competing reading addict's site. They provide the ability to log multiple read dates for the same title but GR does not. I want our team to get credit but don't want to lose my original date read. Suggestions?

message 1768: by Barb (new)

Barb Evana wrote: "I want our team to get credit but don't want to lose my original date read. Suggestions?"

Mark a different edition of the book for either your previous read or this one?

Karla Evana wrote: "I'm currently rereading The Hunger Games with my daughter-in-law since we have now finished the Harry Potter series. This would be the point where I miss that competing reading addict's site. The..."

You can edit your review, click on "more options", under there you will see something like "private notes". You could add the original read date in that section and then change the "date read" section.

message 1770: by Diane L (new)

Diane L Thanks Barb and Karla. I had thought of the editions trick but when I go to the book and view all editions I don't have the option to mark a different edition as currently reading - just switch to this edition. I'll try the Private Notes route.

message 1771: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Evana, to use a second edition, go to the book, click on "all editions" and find the second edition that you want to use. Click on the link to be directed to that edition's book page, and the above your old review is a tiny link that says "review this edition."

Should let you do a separate review for the separate edition. :)

message 1772: by Diane L (new)

Diane L That worked Steven! Thanks.

message 1773: by Steven (new)

Of course :)

NBRC Book Ninja | 1025 comments Task #2 - Spell-It-Out F.A.L.L.

Same spell it out rules as before. (Character names included.) One member, or four, it matters not to me.

Any books 160 pages or greater, finished by November 1st, or after.

You may NOT use books used in other November tasks.

You will be granted two (2) BAPs.

You have until the 23rd of November to earn these points.

Until the next surprise.

Post finished task here.

message 1775: by Barb (new)

Barb Note to M. Mango: I took the liberty of posting this one for our team -- and I used books read by four different people. Too bad that won't earn us any bonus points :)

message 1776: by NBRC Book Ninja (new)

NBRC Book Ninja | 1025 comments Ah! An excellent idea, Barb.

message 1777: by NBRC Book Ninja (new)

NBRC Book Ninja | 1025 comments I will keep it in mind for a possible future attack surprise.

message 1778: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I finished Allegiant, for the A! Or the F (Four is a main character)!

Also finished Hatshepsut's Collar which has a major character named Loki and the author starts with an A.

So I can cover FA or AL! :)

message 1779: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Oh! Already done! Thanks Barb!

I'll be done with my Sookie book soon and then Lisa's Sookie book will match for the first task :)

message 1780: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments I'm about 100 pages off finishing Shelf Life by Stephanie Lawton which covers an L with the surname.

message 1781: by Barb (new)

Barb Steven wrote: "I'll be done with my Sookie book soon and then Lisa's Sookie book will match for the first task :)"

Then you can post in the Ninja thread so we'll get another BAP :)

message 1782: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Turned in our Task One for the Book Ninja, using Lisa and I's read Sookie Stackhouse books :)

message 1783: by Barb (new)

Barb Yay!

message 1784: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Is this competition really nearly over??

message 1785: by Barb (new)

Barb The latest Sunday update shows that team Moonstone is only 20 books away from winning this thing. We're still in fourth place, behind by about 25-ish books. I don't know if the challenge will end as soon as they hit 1350 books, or if it will continue until next Sunday, but NOW is the time to double- and even triple-check to be sure all of your books that qualify have been tagged with your Mango Tango shelf name!

As much as I wish we could have finished higher than fourth place -- maybe even first place! LOL -- I am *thrilled that we finished where we did. Congrats to all of us :)

It's been fun reading with all of you, and I hope we can all stay in contact after this challenge ends. For those who enjoy reading challenges in addition to what's offered here in NBRC, might I suggest you consider joining the Crazy Challenge Connection ? I know several of our teammates are already members, but we'd love to have the rest of you join us :)

message 1786: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments See? Multiple places to spend time together! Buddy reads and challenges here... challenges there... and I'll even wager there will be other places we can all interact :D

We will keep in touch FO SHO! :D

message 1787: by Karla (new)

Karla Strange, reading that the competition is almost over made me sad. I hope we can go until we reach 1,350 books, you don't quit a race just because you don't come in first place.

message 1788: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Maybe they'll leave this thread for us to chat! :)

message 1789: by Barb (new)

Barb I don't know if that's going to be an option or not, Karla. I guess time will tell!

message 1790: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Just finished another book, Shelf Life by Steph Lawton, for both the ninja challenge #2 and another book towards our end goal here :)

In our experience with Round I, when a winner was announced, the majority of players quit 'tagging' books, so we didn't have an accurate reflection of the Teams placement.

Task #3 - Random Genre

I will randomly assigned the following twelve (12) genres to a corresponding number.
Contemporary Romance
Fantasy
Historical Fiction
Historical Romance
History
Horror
Mystery/Cozy
Mystery/Thriller
Non-Fiction
Urban Fantasy
Women's Fiction
Young Adult
Go to:
http://www.random.org/dice/
and roll one or two dice.

Come back to this thread and tell me the number you rolled and I'll tell you the genre a member (any member) of your Team needs to read this month.

I will reassign the genre before each Team request.

Yes, if a member has already read that genre, you may count it.

You may NOT use books used in other November tasks.

Any books 160 pages or greater, finished between November 1 - 23, 2013.

Classification will be by the top five most popular 'tags' - according to GRs members.

You will be granted one (1) BAP.

You have until the 23rd of November to earn this point. (Or the end of the TTRC, which looks like November 17th, according to the poll in the "sister" group.)

Until the next surprise.

Post finished task here.

message 1793: by Barb (new)

Barb I rolled a 5 for us *crossing fingers that we get a 'good' genre*

message 1794: by Barb (new)

Barb I saw in a different thread (there are wayyyy too many threads to keep track of in this round!) that Evana had already rolled for the team, ooops! The good news is that she also rolled a 5 LOL

So, has anyone on our team read a historical fiction book since November 1? None of my books qualify.

Since we've already used them for a different Ninja task, we canNOT use Hatshepsut's Collar (Steven), Lady Isabella's Scandalous Marriage (Lisa) or The Lost Art of Mixing (Evana).

message 1795: by Jane (new)

Jane | 705 comments I really didn't realise we were that close to finishing, that is sad as I enjoy being part of our little Mango Tango group. Hope the challenge returns next year.

Unfortunately I have been in a reading slump these last 10 days and only finished two books which is extremely unusual for me. I will drag myself out and hope to finish another three this week.

I have been over and joined Crazy Challenge Connection but I think I will wait before looking at the challenges as I need to wrap up all my 2013 challenges and I have about another 15 books to read to achieve my goals.

message 1796: by Barb (new)

Barb I don't think I want to count how many books I still "need" to read before the end of the year! LOL

message 1797: by Barb (new)

Barb Evana has come up with a historical fiction book for the latest Ninja challenge. Yay, Evana!

message 1798: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Oh fantastic Evana! Otherwise, I was going to have to try to stretch Etiquette and Espionage as a possible historical book ;)

Task #4 - Random Bookcover (Color or Item)

This task like the Random Genre in that I will randomly assigned numbers to all seventeen (17) Teams, as I did with the 12 genres. However, each Team has a corresponding predominant color or item to find on the cover, for what your Team needs to search.
• This is an either/or challenge. You only have to read one book that qualifies for either the ITEM - or the COLOR of the Team you are assigned.

• For predominant color book, it needs to be the edition the Team Member actually read.

• However, if it is an item on the cover, then you may post the actual bookcover and the alternate one (different edition) in which you found the item .

• If you get your own Team number, I will roll/reassign again.

If you can't see the picture chart, refer to list under this spoiler: (view spoiler)
Go to:
http://www.random.org/dice/
and roll two or three dice.

Come back to this thread and tell me the number you rolled and I'll tell you the Team Item/Color a member (any member) of your Team needs to read this month.

I will reassign the Team/Color/Item before each Team request.

Yes, if a member has already read a bookcover that works, you may count it.

You may NOT use books used in other November tasks.

Any books 160 pages or greater, finished between November 1 - 23, 2013.

You will be granted two (2) BAPs.

You have until the 23rd of November to earn this point. (Or the end of the TTRC, which looks like November 17th, according to the poll in the "sister" group.)

Until the next surprise.

Post finished task here.

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Okay guys, we rolled a 14 and got:

Mango Tango, for Task #4, you need to do:
Radical Red =
ITEM: A book; an open road.
COLOR: Red

So we have to find a book with the item or the color on the cover to match this! :)
