Well, my Nook Color as decided to quit after having it for a year. It started to act up and now i can't even do anything to it. So, now i will have to save money for a new one possible.

message 1052: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Just a year? That doesn't seem right. Maybe you should call B&N or the manufacturer and see if they can do something about it???

message 1053: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, I don't know. I can't turn it off or anything. My dad is on his way to see what we can do.

message 1054: by [deleted user] (new)

And i have no warranty on it so they probably won't be able to do anything for it

message 1055: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I hope you can fix it! That sucks to spend so much on something and expect it to last a few years and it dies out well before expected! :(

message 1056: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Have you held the power button down for 30+ seconds? Sometimes holding it down longer causes a force reboot, which can help solve the problem *in some cases*

message 1057: by [deleted user] (new)

Yea, I know. If i do need a new one, I just gotta figure out if i want to stay with B&N or go with Amazon.

message 1058: by [deleted user] (new)

Hope we can fix it as well.

message 1059: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Also, if the battery is low, the touch screen/etc might stop responding.

On my partner's Google Nexus tablet, it got to less than 10% and then had TONS of issues. I had to charge it for well over 24 hours before it would start working again. Then it works as normal -- and now he NEVER lets it get that low again.

message 1060: by [deleted user] (new)

I'll try it

PS -- hold it down that long and IGNORE the "do you want to shutdown" thing that might pop up.

message 1062: by [deleted user] (new)

Its working now

message 1063: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Excellent! Now double-check your battery level, and if it's low, put it on the charger and leave it there a while! :)

message 1064: by [deleted user] (new)

Battery was where it was before it started acting up. I just don't know why it started acting up.

message 1065: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I'd probably leave it on the charger for a while anyways, just to be sure. Tablets are *really* picky and random about it!

message 1066: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, now, i'm going to keep an eye on it more since that was the first time it did that.

message 1067: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Glad it's working now :)

Wish I was reading instead of at work! hehe!

message 1068: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, you can always read on your lunch break

message 1069: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I plan on it :D

message 1070: by [deleted user] (new)

What are you reading now?

message 1071: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I'm reading Sharp Objects Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn by Gillian Flynn!

message 1072: by [deleted user] (new)

What do you think of Gillian Flynn? I recently got her Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn book for a buck and I never tried her before.

message 1073: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I've only read Dark Places so far, but really enjoyed it. I have Gone Girl and Sharp Objects from my library right now, and chose to read Sharp Objects first as I have heard of the three, Gone Girl is the worst (but still decent)

message 1074: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, hopefully, I will like it since it will be my first book by her.

message 1075: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I've heard it's entertaining, but also that the end is a little frustrating. :)

I'll be reading it soon.

message 1076: by Rebecca NJ (new)

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 2120 comments As I tell anyone who reads Gone Girl - stick with it. My office re-started a book club and that was the first book we read and it was only because we had to talk about it.

I gave it 5-stars only because of the fact that months later, I still think about things that happened.

I haven't read any of her others but hope to eventually.

I was really getting tired of seeing Alice last night!

I have a Nook Simple Touch and a Kindle Fire. I never thought I'd say this, but I really prefer the Kindle. I don't use the tablet features of the reader very often, but it's nice to know they're there if I "need" them :)

I think the biggest reason I prefer the Kindle is that there are a lot more free books for the Kindle than the Nook, although most are by indie authors, so don't expect authors you've heard of before :) In addition, if you're an Amazon Prime member, you can borrow from the Kindle lending library, again for free. Those tend to be better known books.

Cool Text: Logo and Graphics Generator

If you were 'tagging' books as read last night, please make sure they are on your designated Tower Teams Reading Challenge shelf. Since Alice (the girl in the chair that appears when the system is over capacity) kept appearing, we are finding a lot of books didn't get 'tagged.'

The best way is to compare your main GRs challenge (if you've joined) with your "view books" page of your Team's Home Page Challenge.

I've heard of this book before. Actually, it's the only book I've heard of by this author.

Your quick analysis of it made me think I should actually sit down and get around to reading it.

You know, somewhere in an order amongst the rest of my TBR pile >.<

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Hey Nicole, if you want a little push to read Gillian Flynn, Dark Places is one of our August's BOM, if you want to check it, the discussion thread is here - start date on August 2nd.

message 1083: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Dark Places was really good. I read it last month. Just finished Sharp Objects and am planning Gone Girl for August.

message 1084: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Good to now Steven. That means you can pop in the discussion for your two cents :)

Yes, I am shamelessly publiciting the discussion :)

I would gladly buddy read Gone Girl with you but August is a bit crowdy for me, so I'll have to content with discussing the book later :)

message 1085: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I'll do my best to remember to jump in and chat a bit. :)

I finished City of Bones early and completely forgot to go back to the thread now.

(they are macaroons, right?)

message 1094: by Karla (new)

Karla I haven't posted in a bit and have been slow at reading. I will start a new book today.

Yep! I've never eaten one, mainly because I just don't see them around (and will not attempt to make them since I don't know how they should taste/feel). I like meringue and I think that's what the two "cookies" are. I could be completely wrong, though. I should research that.
