Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) | 775 comments I also finished last night Inferno, dan brown....5*s...it was an amazing read with a lot of twists & turns & just when I had things figured something else happened that totally refuted what I thought previously....loved it so much so that I want to go Italy more so now since Ive the read the book.

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Yes! Dan Brown's books have made me want to tour Europe even more than I wanted to before!

message 953: by Barb (new)

Barb I've felt the same way after reading Steve Berry's books :) I want to go see the things he talked about!

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Yes!!!

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6400 comments That's the way I feel when I read a historical. I have been lucky enough to have travelled quite a bit through France, Italy and the UK and when I visit somewhere that I have read about I get goosebumps.

message 956: by Diane L (new)

Diane L I am finally caught up again. I was 2 books ahead when June started and I was invaded by 4 busy grandsons. I was 4 books behind at the end of the month. I've done nothing but read this week, but I'm back to even according to the percentage counter for the challenge. Whew!

message 957: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Like many others in this group this week, I have finished The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern .

Actually quite proud of myself. I'm ahead of myself by one book against how many I usually read this far into the month! :) Maybe we'll break into the top ten next week >.<

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6400 comments Well done team. We're only one book behind Radical Red so I reckon we're a real chance of that top ten.

A big thanks has to go to Barb for all those book advantage points... I think we're leading that tally.

I'm really looking forward to the August Challenge, already checking my TBR out to see what fits.

Go Mango Tango!

Barb I've done the puzzles that I can do to earn our team whatever points we can get. But if anyone else is following the non-reading puzzles/games thread, you probably know that my computer has been giving me trouble with the slider puzzles, so I'm not able to do those. I'm doing my best to keep up with the others though -- without taking away reading time, that is!

Is the ending better than the one in The Da Vinci Code and The Lost Symbol? I like Dan Brown but I end up feeling that the end didn't mach the rest of the book - great plotting week conclusion IMO.

message 962: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Inferno is my least favorite of the series, but there is a good plot twist in Inferno :D

message 963: by Jane (new)

Jane | 705 comments I am currently reading Ship of Magic.

I have now gone on holiday and hope to get some reading done. We are halfway through the month and I have only read 2½ book, I think that is an all time low for me but I have achieved a lot of other stuff so it is okay.

I still hope to finish our July just for fun challenge, I am going to take part in a week long reading challenge from the 22nd of July and expect that will help me read a bit more.

And I have started to make a list of books that will fit our August challenge. I am a bit unsure of a blue book, which team to add it to as there are a few blue teams.
Drowning Mermaids (Sacred Breath, #1) by Nadia Scrieva

@ Barb. I intended to do puzzles but never got there with the moving happening. Now I can't seem to find the link to them.
Also I can't remember when it all finishes.

Jane, that cover looks like it has a few shades of blue, so we'll just see what blues other people end up using and put that one in another slot :)

I know I won't be finishing the July Just for Fun. My pages per day needed to do so just isn't going to happen hehe.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments @Sallie -- a 5 book limit?? WOW! I'm sorry!! I won't complain about my 10 anymore, hehe. Five would just drive me nuts. I'm glad you can at least get your books from another library. Like you said, even with the fee, you still save a LOT of money if you borrow a lot of books! Heck, 3 hardcover borrows pays for that membership.

I know how you feel bout your Joanne Fluke series. I'm the same way with Patricia Cornwell's Scarpetta series. I've read to far into the series to just stop.

Yep, me too, Sallie! I was disgusted to read, in a recent book, that Hannah "likes having two men who are both interested in her." Good grief, are you kidding me?? She's certainly adult enough to MAKE A *)@(*$ decision already!

The author is apparently in no hurry to bring this to an end. She responded to an email from a reader saying she "can't make up Hannah's mind for her!" Ummmm... YES you can, you're the author! LOL

In one of the cozy mystery groups here on GR, we've more or less decided that the only way to put an end to this thing is for Hannah to meet somebody new who simply sweeps her off her feet, leaving both Mike and Norman in the dust.

Just finished another book: The Bone Bed (Kay Scarpetta, #20) by Patricia Cornwell

message 986: by Barb (last edited Jul 17, 2013 05:58PM) (new)

Barb This must be the day for finishing two books :) I finished listening to Even Money on my way home from work this afternoon, then I finished reading Assaulted Pretzel this evening.

I enjoyed both, although I'm really starting to like the people of Heavenly, Pennsylvania -- not to mention how much I'm learning about the Amish :) Living less than an hour from Lancaster, PA, it's almost embarrassing to admit how little I know about their culture and way of life.

message 987: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I only finished one :(((

message 988: by [deleted user] (new)

Same here. That was the only book that i read today.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6400 comments Yeah, I've only finished one this week.... but have half read two others that will be finished by Sunday.

I know its early but can I claim a spot for the August challenge yet. (Book genre - historical fiction) The next Phillipa Gregory, The White Princess comes out the last week of July and I know I'll be reading it to finish the 1st August.

Ooh, I'd be interested in reading Philippa Gregory with you. I think you're further along in the White Princess saga though, if you're up to the latest book ;)

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6400 comments Nicole, could anyone else play Lord Akeldama other than Brit actor Rupert Everett???
That reminds me. I must read the last book in that series.
I think the White Princess will be good. It's the story of Henry V111 parents.

I've never read the Joanne Fluke series. Tried to read the first, couldn't get into it so I've just left it alone. Anyway, it sounds about as annoying as the Stephanie Plum (Janet Evanovich, author) series with Stephanie not knowing who to pick over Ranger and Joe. Ugh, it's really just an annoying gimmick at this point. Just marry Joe!! Ranger is hot but come on! So is Joe, and he's more stable.

LOL Yep, a similar situation in the Fluke books :) I mean, Norman built a *house for Hannah, for Pete's sake!!

I tried the first Stephanie Plum book and didn't like it at all, so I gave up on it without even finishing it. I think I'm the only mystery reader on the planet who doesn't like those books! Too bad, the E author would come in *really handy for my spelling challenges :)

Hi everyone! Popping in from Moonstone with my two cents :)

@Barb - you are not alone! I had the worst time getting into the Stephanie Plum series. I read the first one and that was it.

I tend to pick up the Fluke books here and there and for all those "must read the series in order people" I will say, that is one series I pick up because I need the cover for a challenge. I haven't missed anything yet.

I recently read Brownies and Broomsticks (A Magical Bakery Mystery #1) by Bailey Cates which already established a love triangle right away. So annoying!

If anyone likes the Spellmans series, I do recommend Sofie Metropolis (Sofie Metropolis, #1) by Tori Carrington . I found this series by accident and I really like it.

Have a great day everyone. If you are on the east coast, stay cool!
