Barb LOL Nicole Why were you waiting?

message 802: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Sounds like a good book, but I'll wait until you've told me if there are clowns in it before I add it. *shudders*

Clowns are terrifying :X

message 805: by Jane (new)

Jane | 705 comments Finished another book. That makes it 5 finished for our Just For Fun Challenge, but I have several of the longer books left to read.

I haven't had so much time to follow the different threads. Are we having a challenge in July between the teams?

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6400 comments Aawww team. I can't believe we're falling behind. No 11 this week! I read three books last week and one was 617 pages. How do these other teams read so much...

message 807: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments No idea. I've kinda made my peace with it and am making sure to enjoy whatever I read instead of racing through it.

I'm also focusing more on our fun games too. :)

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6400 comments Yep, you're totally right, Steven. I love our July Challenge... lots of fun.

message 809: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Barb wrote: "LOL Nicole Why were you waiting?"

Naww, it's a buddy read, so I thought I better wait. But I've only got it out from the library till the 16th of July so... ;)

Hey, Lisa, where can you find out who is coming first and so on?

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6400 comments Nicole, it's posted every week. Monday morning our time.

Captains' Credenza -> Weekly (Sunday/Monday) & Monthly Update . Its in the other sister group. Sorry, I don't know how to post the exact link. Maybe Steven will post it. Pretty Please...

message 812: by Barb (new)

Barb It's posted every Sunday night (or Monday morning) in this thread, Nicole --> Sunday Updates

I've wondered the same thing, Lisa. But I'm right there with Steven. I've come to terms with the fact that we're not going to win this thing, so I'm just doing the best I can, and making sure I enjoy the books I *do read. As long as we have fun while we're doing this, that's what matters most to me :)

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6400 comments Thanks Barb for posting the link. I'm not very technical..

Yes I totally agree, we are all having lots of fun discussing all genres of books and all manner of other interesting things. Great group of people! I can't help sneaking a peak at those weekly totals though. (grins)

Thanks Barb!

I think the most important thing is always to enjoy the books you're reading. I absolutely love the commeraderie I've found in this group. The reading challenge just gives us an easy talking point to keep in contact with! :D

Couldn't agree more Nicole. I love seeing what everyone is reading (which is why I sneak into other threads like yours!) and getting inspired :)

Barb Karen wrote: "I love seeing what everyone is reading (which is why I sneak into other threads like yours!)"

I wish I had time to hang around the other teams' threads, but wow! Some of these teams are REALLY chatty LOL When this round of the challenge first started, I tried to keep up with every teams' thread, but I was spending so much time reading GR posts, I wasn't reading any BOOKS!

message 819: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilalynn) | 206 comments I have been a bit absent. So I am trying to figure out what is going on currently. If I remember correctly for August we need to have our own team challenge? Is that right and if so have we started discussing what that should be? Thanks for the help!

message 820: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Sheila, currently we are having a "just for fun" challenge to tide us over to August(since the 7% went so fast) located here: Just for Fun July.

Our August challenge hasn't been released yet, but it's pretty much decided. I'll post it soon so people can start planning for it.

message 821: by Steven (last edited Jul 01, 2013 10:41AM) (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Here's the current plan for August:

8 Allies (books from teammates' shelves) – ANY shelf: Read, To-Read, Currently Reading
8 Frenemies (books from rival teammates' shelves) – ANY shelf: Read, To-Read, Currently Reading
8 GR choice nominees or winners (we'll post Goodreads Lists for you to look and see)
8 new to you authors
8 books made into movies/TV shows
10 unique genres (one from each) – fantasy, historical fiction, horror, mystery, non-fiction, paranormal, romance, sci-fi, thriller/crime, young adult
10 unique colors from other teams’ doors (from the 17 team colors) – only one electric lime, for example; if doing a blue team, the blue must match the blue of the team's door (no using navy blue to match pewter blue, for example)
18 spell out MODS’ SUMMER VACATION (with words from the title or the author's name)

For a total of 78.

Rather than taking categories, we'd each start a book and POST in the tracking thread to "claim" that book.

And we have to read a total of 75 books by last day of August to complete this challenge (not the planned 78 goal).

Just a heads up Steven, I won't be able to do the August challenge since I will be in school, but I'll still be able to read when i can.

**chuckles** Yeah, it was pretty wild those first few days.

Barb Nancy wrote: "Just a heads up Steven, I won't be able to do the August challenge since I will be in school, but I'll still be able to read when i can."

You don't have to participate in the whole thing, Nancy. If any of the books you're planning to read fit any of the categories for the challenge, just post in the thread Steven will set up to "claim" that spot so everybody else will know that task is being covered. When you finish, post again to let us know you're done reading :) Even just one book will help!

message 826: by Barb (new)

Barb Time Lord Steven wrote: "Here's the current plan for August"

And this will be a TEAM effort! Nobody is going to have to read all 8 Frenemies books, or all 10 book cover colors :) As long as we fill in all the blanks between August 1 and August 31, we'll be good to go.

message 827: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Yes, Nancy! Just tell us when you start a book, and if it fits a category, we'll mark that one as "all yours." :D

Barb is right! No one person in one category! We're going to let everyone read their heart's desire and contribute that way :D

lol so true. I only sneak into threads where I know people from other BOMs and BRs. And of course at Mango Tango where we also have Dr Who discussions...lol

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6400 comments Great concept for the August challenge, Steven. There's something for everyone there. When we post the book will we add how is fits in which categories so you can move it around to complete the challenge? Like the June/July challenge? That worked very well.

message 830: by Barb (new)

Barb I think the plan was for us to "claim" a spot when we start the book, so that nobody else would read a book for that slot. For example, if I was going to read a book whose title starts with U, I would "claim" the U slot in the spell-it-out category. Then the rest of the team would know that option is covered.

That wouldn't matter so much in the Allies, Frenemies, Books-to-movie, new-to-us authors and GR choice categories -- at least not till those categories are almost full -- but it will be *really important in the cover colors, genre and spell-it-out categories.

We want every book our team reads to fill a slot in the challenge if at all possible, but if two (or more) of us read horror books at the same time, that might not be possible.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6400 comments Right. Got it, thanks Barb. Well, I can cover any of the romance categories because I read every romance genre there is. Looks like a really do-able challenge.

message 832: by Barb (new)

Barb I've starting scoping out everybody's bookshelves, so I'll have a list at hand to know if anything I read fits one of those categories. Sheila, you and I have a LOT of the same books on our TBR lists :)

message 833: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Thanks, Lisa. Barb and her daughter actually worked that challenge out for the most part, and then she and I tweaked it a very tiny amount... So she deserves the credit! :)

:)

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6400 comments THANK YOU, BARB.

Barb ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) wrote: "Hello, Mighty Mangoes! Hope you are all enjoying your latest reads!!"

Very much so :) I tend to read lighter "beach reads" in the summer, and they're so much fun! Last night, I finished Island Girls A Novel by Nancy Thayer and I started Ladies' Night by Mary Kay Andrews this afternoon.

Because I can't have *all 'fluff,' I finished reading The Astronaut Wives Club A True Story by Lily Koppel this morning, an interesting look at the lives of the women behind the Mercury 7 astronauts.

Now I'm listening to Thirteen At Dinner by Agatha Christie , and reading Never Kissed Goodnight (Leigh Koslow Mystery #4) by Edie Claire on my Nook and Tilt-a-Whirl (John Ceepak Mystery, #1) by Chris Grabenstein on my Kindle. (Yes, I have both; it's a long story!)

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) | 775 comments I finished Beautiful Darkness by kami garcia...really liked this book the more I read the better I liked it...definitely planning to read the next in the series...4*s 07.02.2013 503 pages

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Barb, those (Nancy Thayer and Mary Kay Andrews books you listed) are both on my summer reads list! I don't think I can get Ladies Night yet, though. You're like me, I like to read "beach reads" in the summer because they can be so fun.

Wow, you're quite the busy reader (DUH! I already knew that, haha). You know, I don't know the story of why you have both a Kindle and a Nook but honestly, it doesn't surprise me, lol! Hey, it gives you a chance to read two books at once and that can only be a good thing, LOL!

message 843: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Haha yes Teresa!

Sallie, I loved Beautiful Creatures. I really loved book two. Book three was pretty good too, but book four was just average!

message 844: by Barb (new)

Barb ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) wrote: "You're like me, I like to read "beach reads" in the summer because they can be so fun."

Even though they're predictable, I like them because I don't have to *think when I read them LOL Work is crazy busy in the summer, so when I come home, I don't want to have to work hard at my reading too!

message 845: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments I feel really sad that I couldn't get into Beautiful Creatures. I read the start of the book a couple of years ago now and just put it down. Now I keep hearing positive reviews, and the movie looks positively amazing!

Maybe I just don't get it :/

message 846: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments The movie was NOT all that great. But I really enjoyed the book. Book two was far superior though.

They're just fun reads. I went in expecting it to be similar to Twilight, so I wasn't disappointed by higher expectations haha.
